If Deebo doesn’t want to be the multipurpose player he’s been I don’t see many teams being interested in trading for him. He’s only had one big year. He’s been a dynamic ball carrier who’s very punishing and if he doesn’t want to do that it eliminates a big part of his game. Odd for him to be requesting a trade after only one productive season.

Why? The Deebo I saw last year might have been the best player in the nfl that wasn’t a qb

Yet he doesn't want to do those things you saw last year. What part you don't understand? That's why he want out of San fran.

Shanahan was fine with drafting RG3, he wasn't fond of the picks they had to give up to move up to get him. He admitted that more than once on an a radio show here.

With Griffin, something else was going on.

The designed quarterback running plays that had become a staple of the offense were mostly missing from the Cousins game plan (the backup had only one designed run). Griffin was furious that Cousins was not asked to assume the same risks that the Shanahans seemed so comfortable making him take. The chasm between the young star and Washington’s father-son coaching tandem would only worsen.

Feb. 5, 2013 — Griffin called for a meeting. He declined to tell Mike Shanahan what he wanted to discuss, saying only it was important. Griffin, Mike and Kyle Shanahan and quarterbacks coach Matt LaFleur gathered in the offensive meeting room at the team headquarters in Ashburn, Virginia. With the coaches seated, Griffin walked to a blackboard and wrote:

  1. Change things.
  2. Change our protections.
  3. Unacceptable.
  4. Bottom line.
Griffin instructed the coaches to let him speak uninterrupted and rolled through a list of grievances, stressing that substantive changes had to occur immediately. Scrap the pass protection scheme and start over, Griffin demanded. There were 19 plays — primarily those from the 50-series and quarterback draws — that were unacceptable. Griffin, who supported his presentation with video clips of each play, expected them to be deleted from the playbook. Bottom line, Griffin said, he was a drop-back quarterback — not a running quarterback.

I don’t think there is a contradiction between “not wanting him” and “giving up draft picks”. That’s the very definition of over-rated. Shanahan stated in the interview that RG3 was the pick of Snyder and that he told Snyder that he doesn’t agree with it, but since he’s the owner, Mike would make it work.

The fact is, they drafted Cousins also in the 4th and this surprised many analysts, because RG3 was touted oddly as the next great thing, some even arguing he’s more sure-fire than Luck. At the same time, many sources that kept anonymous has plenty of criticisms, which confirm Shanny’s assessment.

It’s pretty simple as far as Cousins and RG3 and changing the playbook. Cousins and RG3 were completely different QBs. RG3 draft profile stated exactly what led to his injury. This was the same thing Mike said. He didn’t throw the ball away, slide and didn’t protect himself when running. RG3 also just came off his record setting rookie year.

Shanahan was not going to be running a zone read type of offense with Cousins, who ran a 4.93 40 is why they modified the offense.

RG3 was infatuated with himself but was clearly not a real progression QB. Deebo probably just wants to extend his career, while being a top flight WR.

I doubt Samuel would come to Dallas. He wants to go to a team where they have a real chance.

(CowboyFanInLexKY talking to Stephen): Stephen, did you contact Deebo? Stephen:Yeah. We won't be getting him because I can't get him to sign for the vet minimum. I tried....

It's still 2 players that want out of a Shanahan system, and it's correlates to being run into the ground.
Kevin Sheehan on the then radio show had Shanahan on. He said without the draft capital they had to give up. He had no issue with drafting RG3. Kyle actually said his dad wanted to draft Wilson over Cousin but conceded to Kyle because of the work he put in.

Cowboys can't even figure out how to use Pollard.....trading for Deebo is a waste of time.

You're right, but part of Samuel's problems with the 49ers is he wants to be used more like a "normal" wide receiver. He doesn't want to be viewed as a gadget player.

all samuel is doing is using the cowboys as leverage to get for someone to trade for him

The rest of the NFL knows by now there is no leverage by using the Cowboys. They created a ton of cap space this offseason and just sat on it. They aren't giving up multiple picks and paying Deebo nearly $30 million annually. There's a better chance of me marrying the Cowboys cheerleader of my choice before sundown.

This is a clear case of agent induced delusion. Deebo is a good receiver but not a great one. What made him a great PLAYER is that he could do more than just run routes and catch the ball. If he is now insisting that he doesn't want to be versatile anymore but wants to be paid on the basis of that versatility then he's just being stoopid. In any case, him coming to Dallas at any price would be a waste. Moore has no clue how to use great talent.

yup hes a fantastic muti-tool player take away the run aspect and now hes just a very good WR. Definitely not in the Hop, Adams, or Hill zip code anyone who thinks so is smoking high quality stuff. More like in the AC 20mil range it most likely what SF offered and hes balked at,,he wants to do less for more $$$ lol

Doogie Houser OC would use him as a FB, while showing that evil genius grin on the sideline. "I'll show this DC, didn't plan on covering Deebo the FB did ya!"

Yep..it's like so many guys learn after we get married. The chick who really seemed to love... well.. you know.. seem to love it a lot less once you're hitched. Deebo is that chick who wants to reap the benefits of being great in bed but doesn't wanna go down anymore after the wedding night. He got the order wrong though.. He wasn't sposed to SAY it until AFTER the wedding..

So your team uses you in a certain way that makes the entire league go "We need a guy like that" and you're mad? Pass.

When that way he's being used can cause his career to significantly be shortened, then it's understandable why he's mad. The prevailing logic is to avoid giving runningbacks big second contracts because the wear and tear on their body will significantly diminish their performance and you can find a replacement easily in the 3rd round or so. Now take a WR, give him runningback carries and it's not surprising that he's frustrated. He doesn't want his body to be broken down and knocked out of the league in a couple of years.
