Franchise and draft apathy

I didn't post once the entire season last year. I'm a season-ticket holder, and I went to one game. Actually didn't watch a couple of games on TV because there were just other things I'd rather do.

That hadn't happened before.

And now I have zero anticipation for next season. Waiting for that to change, but not holding my breath.
I’ve been there for a couple decades E.

Good news is there is still much football to enjoy beyond the Cowboys and it’s still the best time of year despite what Jethro has done to our favorite franchise.

It’s just like all those years Baylor suked, I still loved college football. My team doesn’t have to be good to enjoy the sport while it does make it more intense.

Oh , and I still watch every Cowboys game. Can’t be a Diehard if you don’t. Haven’t missed one since 1965. Maybe longer . As far back as I recall.

The irony of “I don’t care/I’ve lost interest” posts now being the single most common thread type on Cowboyszone seems completely lost on that crowd.

They want us to care about them not caring!

I still like the draft and look forward to it on day 1 because it always takes on a life of it's own and is hardly predictable.

I especially like the analysts getting all disturbed because a team didn't follow their recommendation. My favorite is "they're going to regret that".

The night Manziel kept falling and the camera was hitting him and a red faced Gruden, getting redder with each pick that was not Manziel, was telling them they will rue that day for a long time was a real highlight.

But Kiper is my favorite because he acts like they owe him something for the time he spends and reputation he has with the draft. "Don't they know who I am"? Well, one GM didn't because he asked who he was after Kiper blasted him for a pick.

Interesting because Ive never seen you active in draft talk previous years
Because there is nothing more mind-numbingly pointless than reading who Jimmy Jack thinks the Cowboys are going to take in each of six rounds. It's about as interesting as Bravo channel.

The first round is intriguing to discuss. After that, it's silly to pontificate. Too much unexpected happens, so you don't know anything until you get to that point. Any of 10-12 guys are going to be there in the second round. Maybe 1 of them, maybe all 12. Impossible to say. You trade up or down accordingly. Rinse and repeat.

My draft philosophy is simple. Take the best player available always, no matter what. If the difference is too close to tell between 2 or 3 players, choose the one you need the most. Done.

yeah, I love our steam pile dog poop. killers, perverts, women beaters, what's not to like. The owner who's too stupid to fire himself as gm, cheap Buckethead son, pinhead son, daughter with jerry's face, and pizzaface grandson.

So you dont find anything we say about the interesting, but you start a thread about how lethargic and apathetic we are about the draft this year.

Your friends must be absolute saints

There's a whole bunch of positions to fill this year so maybe the mindset is they're more than a premium pick or 2 away from looking like an improved team on paper.

Also there's the fact that many feel it's a forgone conclusion they'll be drafting an offensive linemen this year in the 1st round. To be frank it's important, but not a flashy draft move. For a team that has had a less than flashy free agency, perhaps that's weighing some of your excitement down too.

For me I'm still excited, as they'll hopefully come away with some players that make everyone feel better about the offseason.

Did I say that?

The draft is a big speculative guess. It's a fascinating watch to see how it unfolds. But doing "mock" drafts and whatnot is just stupid because every one you see usually falls apart completely in the first 10-15 picks.

And most draft discussion devolves into drivel about who the Saints will take from Boise State in round 3. Utterly pointless discussion.

I couldn't disagree more. You can find quality starting guards beyond round one. Most teams do.
Yep, the best offensive line in Cowboys, and possibly NFL, history:

Mark Tuinei: undrafted defensive end from Hawaii converted into an offensive lineman
Nate Newton: undrafted journeyman from the USFL by way of Washington
Mark Stepnoski: 3rd round pick
Kevin Gogan: 8th round pick
John Gesek: 10th round pick by the Raiders traded to the Cowboys for a 5th round pick
Larry Allen: 2nd round pick from Sonoma State
Erik Williams: 3rd round pick from Central State (Kansas)

I like the draft because it's like the rest of the NFL, not about the Cowboys. The unearned coverage is annoying.
