Free speech does not apply to twitter as a private business You also agree to rules when joining twitter and if you do not abide by the rules there will be consequences. If you do not like the business model or rules on twitter Find another business/social app that you agree with and use that one.

Or if you are an enterprising person with the means to start a new app that caters to your wishes. And I would wager money that as that app grows in popularity you will find that it start instituting it's own rules and guidelines or it will fail due to the trolls.

People need to educate themselves on free speech.

I don't think Twitter is a private business - as they sell shares and are responsible to the share holders.

Musk will take it private and then.....

Agreed...they don't put those crazy warnings or directions on products for no reason.
As outlandish as some of those can be, it is because some idiot tried doing it.

Bingo! Sad but true.

Aside from the free speech discussion, Elon Musk has secured the $46+ billion in funding to fund his takeover offer. If he can convince enough shareholders to support his buyout offer he can force a vote to remove the entire Twitter board of directors, elect a new board that will vote away the poison pill and then buy shares from current shareholders directly. Eventually he will control enough of the stock to take the company private. I am wondering now if he will bump up his offer to convince more shareholders to sell? Shareholders are in a quandary right now. If they do not sell their shares to Musk he could bail on the deal and send Twitter stock tumbling.

I can see where this might make a great movie someday.

Sure, now that Musk has arranged for funding shareholders are smelling the money. If he ups his offer, and I know he said his offer was final, he probably seals the deal pretty quickly.
I think the reality is that this is not about free speech or moral or opinionated issues. I am sure Elon values those things, but I suspect those are more of a bonus.

I think it comes down to shareholders see a company like Twitter that has had no real business plan to grow its revenue streams and they think that Musk (whether true or not does not matter) provides a chance that will change.

There are so many services and features they could offer in a real subscription option (not required, just optional) that they are completely ignoring right now. Their "Twitter Blue" subscription is a joke even at $2.99 per month.

Honestly, someone or some organization needs to buy Twitter if it has any real hopes of sustaining itself in the future. Whether that is Musk or someone else does not matter. The status quo is a disaster waiting to happen if a Twitter alternative or replacement ever gains traction.

This is good news. I like Twitter but it’s needs to balanced and moderated in such a way…so hopefully under new ownership things will improve.

Stop the political arguments. We all know which sides believe what when it comes to social media.

Now that he Elon is buying Twitter, will it be a private company? If so, can he ever take the company public again? Or is this just a case of some billionaires buy sports teams as hobby and Elon wants a media company as a hobby? I believe Mark Zuckerberg owns a newspaper?

I have to believe this more than just a hobby. I wonder if it is in any way connected to what he’s doing next? Tesla, the official car of Twitter? Twitter software in the new Cybertruck? “Tweeting from Mars,” brought to you by SpaceX?
