Pollard’s yards after contact is actually pretty good and it’s because he hits the holes hard. Yes hitting those holes like that with his pad level high all the time is going to get him hurt. He’s definitely not the definition of a power back because it’s questionable that he could take that punishment consistently.
I disagree with that.

I think Tony's after contact yards come because he is already in the clear. I think he has just as much..."success" as Zeke running up the middle.

When we give zeke the ball....it's an obviously delay handoff up the middle, Dak tripping over centers feet. Zeke has to dip on handoff and he struggles to pick up momentum. (which helps take on would-be tacklers).

Tony generally runs different plays than zeke. Rightly so.

I wish the stats companies would remove the top and bottom 1% of runs so that one long carry or that freakish stuff in the backfield by a blitzing lber doesn’t skew the stats. I agree those long runs can make the overall stats look deceiving.

You mean transform pure statistics into something more meaningful and reflective of what actually happens on the field??

"Be struck down you blasphemer!!" chants the number fools in unison.

Most teams are using a two back system with one back being a change of pace. You need a downhill runner who can push the pile and move the chains. RB is a punishing position and you need two backs to get it done. Zeke will very likely be gone after this season and Pollard will be a free agent. We definitely have to plan ahead and look at RBs.

Why would we draft a RB? We have Zeke, Pollard, Dowdle, and Hardy on our roster. None of those guys suck. Zeke's contract is undesirable according to his production, but he doesn't suck. So why draft a RB this year?

They do not understand this.
Zeke will be healthy. Moore needs to use Zeke and Pollard like he did in the first 6 games. Before the OL, Zeke, Dak injuries, Gallup out with his calf issue also.
Moore and his stupid play calling later in the season was more of an issue than with anything else.

Dowdle was looking good until his injury. Hardy was improving. Zeke with an injured knee, Pollard and his foot injury as well. Both will be 100% going into TC and the season.

I know the FO seems inept at times on certain things, however, they are better than the wanna be GM's on here.

"Experts" blab blah blah.... Dallas will most likely release Elliott to save cap & use some of that savings for Pollard's new contract as #1. Rico should be ready to rock & roll as well.

And if the Oline doesn't open it up for Dallas' RB's, it doesn't matter if they're an up hill/down hill runner. Which is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of on that topic. Lol, "downhill runner".

How about Dak? Judging by how our season ended it seems like he'd rather run than pass anyway.

Tony Pollard

If there is a Alvin Kamara, Nick Chubb Jr, Jonathan Taylor type that Cowboys feel they just have to take per value per 3rd round, i'd have to
trust McClay on this.

i actually like another Pollard type who can impact both run and pass game; offers mismatches, as well as in special teams.
we really need especially since we need to trend to multiple, versatile backs instead of a single workload pounding bell cows types.

But we really first need to address changes at OC.
Kellen is just flat, bland and not good at scheming or developing RBs, imo.

We all know what we currently have at RB. Things next season may possibly look different. With that, a lot of draft "experts" seem to have us picking one type of running back. They seem to have us picking a RB who is a physical down hill runner, I guess to resemble what we will miss with Zeke.

Seeing Zeke these last few seasons, I'm not sure that's the type of back we need. It's fine if that back is able to break some tackles, but I'm hoping he can get us some nice long runs too!

What are your thoughts on the type of Rb you would want us to get...
I think Pollard is the perfect change of pace guy so my focus would be a masher type. I want a guy that can punish the other team, play 17 games and hold on to the ball. This draft actually has some guys that would be perfect. If I am Dallas I am getting a back in round 4 or 5.

This is zekes last season.
Pollard is a free agent after next season.
If we can get a decent rb with one of our extra 5th rounders, that would be wise.
Honestly if there's one they really like in the 3rd, I'm not gonna complain at all.

I do NOT want a second contract guy and they won't go into this time next year counting on the draft for two RB, so if they don't take one in this draft, they will likely either restructure Elliott or give Pollard and his bad foot a second deal.

If you're on board with no second RB deals, you also have to be on board with a RB on Friday/Saturday.

Id take a chance drafting a RB now. If he's as good as Zeke I'd auction zeke off to the highest bidder w an injury/need and eat that dead money now.

I'm going w the best RB core to run behind our beefed up ol we draft.

I think we have a better shot at trading Zeke and recouping some of that dead money now. Somebody will take him and relieve of some of that dead money.

We could extend Pollard as the #2 RB and have more hungry momentum moving forward. Imo

I'll preface by saying I'm against drafting a RB in the first round in general & certainly not 4th overall. RBs are a dime a dozen and they have an average to below average shelf life. League average is 3.3 years. RBs are averaging 2.57 years. That's the lowest of any position.Get at me about WRs trending the same way, but that's another subject.
Also, I'm not a huge fan of extending a RBs contract, but that goes back to not drafting them early and feeling like you are married to them.
So the facts are that most play under 3 years. If a RB is a position of need, package some later round picks.

Rant over, Elliott isn't going to be "comeback player of the year," so plan on him getting worse. It would be best to release him after this season IMO. Pollard is already over the average career year mark. It's a little concerning because he's not some real elite player. He's solid, but better in space. I like him in dump off in the flats etc.. He's OK returning. Overall great attitude and person. I like him, but he's just Ok, so after his rookie contract it would be smart to replace him.

Of course that's all well and good if you had a system & coaching that utilized RBs to begin with. I'm sick and tired of Moore to be honest. It's going on 5 years.
Crap or get off the toilet.

I hope they draft a RB, not just with the first few picks as we have glaring needs on the OLine.
