Broaddus thinks it'll be Smith too.

I think we can do better. I don't hate the player as much as I do Penning, but it's quite the risk. At the very least he appears to be physical, which is what this team needs. But what this team doesn't need is more penalties. So... I don't know. Putting faith in our OL coach to teach a guy who is so sloppy is not ideal

if dallas moves up i still think it's for one of those de's.
i'd love it to be for dt jordan davis, georgia.
but a move up from 24 i think is for a de.
i'm fascinated about this pick tonight.
can't wait to watch it un-fold.

I think they are going to go WR. Sadly.

EDIT: I am also a no on Smith in the first round. He's too big a project to use your first round pick on when you have a need for an immediate starter at LG, etc.

Smith has the right attitude and power, but his hand placement and technique are awful. He holds a ton, and if this OL coach couldn't coach that out of Connor Williams, I don't have any faith that he would be able to do it with Smith. No chance that I would consider him at 24.

I don't think Green is a first round grade on the Cowboys board. If like they say, they only have 14-16 first round grades, you can be sure Green isn't one of them. If they do draft Green, it's a result of a trade back. If they trade up, the only OL they'll take is Cross. Other than him it's not worth a trade up.

Other than Cross, I highly doubt Dallas goes OL on a trade up. A trade back, they'll probably go OL. I do not think they sit at 24 with such few first round grades.
at 24, they will not be drafting a 1st rd player, that is why they want to move up.

Someone talk me off the ledge on Tyler Smith.

Tape looks awful. Does he get plugged in a LG until he learns to block? I don’t get it

It is all traits, they think they can coach out the sloppiness.

If we had a real OL coach, I would feel better.
This. This ... and MORE of this.

Tyler Smith is not the guy you draft when your OL coach is Joe Philbin!!!!! Now if we had a guy like Bill Callahan, I would trust what they were doing more.

But, it's another simple situation that Dallas fails miserably at. Massive hole at LG? Two plug and play starters that are elite sitting there at 24 with Johnson and Green. But let's take the project player who holds a lot, have him switch positions and hope Joe friggin Philbin can turn him into a starter. More of, let's not worry about this year and next. But we have our possible LT 3 years from now lmao

Whether at 24 or in a trade down, I think he fits both a need (LG) and has the long-term potential and upside to replace Tyron at LT in a couple of years. He has all the physical traits you want and a nasty attitude. However he is raw with technique. Which can be hidden at LG and with his brute strength for the first year. He will be a work in progress, but can start year 1 and the clay is there to mold. Thoughts?

Sounds like he is what we need!
Is he coachable and motivated ?

Charles Cross could be someone the Cowboys might be fairly inclined to move up for, if a LT is their desire. Perhaps a LG would be even more desirable. The workings of Jerry and Stephen's minds can be odd at times. Here's hoping the members of the war room committee steer them in the right direction.

Me likey too! 6'5", 305 and room for more. He'll go on a weight lifting regimen in the pros and maybe put a stop on the best NFL DE's.

Getting Charles Cross in round one would be outstanding. He's equally adept at both run blocking and blocking for the pass, also. :)

If our FO is willing to go wacko and make a bid for him, he'd be a likely choice to serve them for a long time. It'd be costly, though!

What could go wrong. The same OL coach that saw Williams lead the league in holding calls will craft a holding machine into a finely tuned guard/LT?

Williams led the league in holding calls because he was too weak and had no anchor, so he had to hold. Smith is not weak and has a strong anchor, he just has poor technique. That can be fixed. Not saying that Philbin can do it, but the draft is about projecting what the player can become, not what he is.
