I'm not doubting the pick at 24, just the 16th best comment. Dallas thought Tyler Smith was superior at playing the game of football over FIVE of these guys? That's so... odd.

Those four are my guesses, hard to find a 5th though.

They drafted a project with technique and football discipline problems when there were two legit defensive studs still on the board
To be fair the defense was not our biggest area of opportunity last year as the season progressed. In fact, I found myself more excited to watch the team on defense.

Not that I think we can't improve, but the OL was a glaring issue.

Folks like to think that Zeke was in there because of the size of his paycheck. Nah, he was there to be an extra lineman. We basically had to pick which sword to fall on. Bad run game with an injured Zeke, or Dak coming off of injury only to be the next victim of Cowboys QB history.

Troy would have rarely seen the field today. Not because of talent, but because they don't allow players to play through as much of a beating as they did in the past.

Apparently according to the FAN there was a lot of pre-draft smoke about Smith and the Cowboys. I guess in this case, where there's smoke, there was indeed a fire. Mel Kiper certainly picked it up, and you can even hear Steven A. mention it at the 4:30 mark of this First Take. (below)

One of the things that was brought up on the Fan draft show tonight was the ability of a team to have multiple (no limit?) pre-draft meetings with a kid within a 60-90 mile radius, which meant no team had a better opportunity to get to know Smith before the draft than the Dallas Cowboys. For whatever that's worth.

Jerry just trying to save money on flights, the way things are going…

Lol, blah blah blah. I'm so used to Jerry hyping up the picks that it's pretty predictable he'd say something like this. Not saying it's a bad pick, actually I'm happy with it, but you know Jerry is going to go into salesman's mode.

I'm more encouraged by Ed Werder tweet.

Right now I'm feeling optimistic but it has nothing to do with Jerry's propaganda. He's young, athletic, talented and has a major upside. He needs coaching on pass blocking and not holding. The holding is a concern. But this seems more of a future team building pick than a win now pick. Personally I like that because we're not going to win next year so I like the idea of building up the trenches while we continue to purge bloated underachieving contracts from the team.

I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt

the guy clearly has talent and traits and is nasty

what he needs is coaching

I’m predicting he starts at LOG day one and becomes our next LT once Tyron calls it a day

I just realised something. I think we got someone comparable to Flozell Adams. Tyler is a bit shorter as Flozell was 6'7. However, the weight isn't too different, and Flozell started at guard before moving to OT. I'll need to explore this further.

I know isn't a popular take but I'm willing to least give the kid a chance to play a game or two before pulling out the B card

Exactly, a lot of people overreacted with Parsons as well and look how that turned out. No one here is a professional scout, if they were they wouldn’t be posting on this forum. People like to crap on Jerry/Stephen/Will but the reality is they’re the subject matter experts, not anyone here.

Hmmm......didn't we hear rumblings the Titans like him a lot?

And replaced them with another and same coaches. I’m not saying kid can’t be good, I’m
Saying it’s poor drafting reaching for someone who exemplifies your bugaboos
IDK why people bring up comparisons to Williams, Williams was physically incapable of playing guard most of his holds were a direct result of being overpowered. This kid is massive, aggressive, athletic and intelligent. Being placed at G to start with takes away alot of those holding issues , which were mostly against speedy edge rushers anyway. Plus the kid is only 21

Tyler is an excellent physical specimen. Strong like bull and just as mean!
He merely needs to get technically squared away.

A #16 fella couldn't be all bad, could he?

Well . . . of course not!!

Oh you know what man enough. I’m so sick of the fans who refuse to acknowledge that this front office is lost. It’s been 26 years. Give it up. They aren’t going to magically “figure it out”

Tyler smith has talent yes. But fans were told they were addressing the penalties in the off season. How have they done that? By drafting the most penalty prone tackle in the country. That’s how lol. They didn’t address OL in FA well because it’s too expensive ya know. And now they passed on a blue chip defensive end prospect with a good head on his shoulders for a project at OL.

give him a year? Sure. Be happy about it? No chance in you know what.
