Locked On Cowboys saying there were 3 teams that wanted to trade up with us, but after we caught wind of the Titans we elected to stay put.

They also said we tried to trade up for Olave but didn't offer enough. Our other trade up targets were Drake London and Cross.

That was definitely not a Jones pick. More than one person saw something in this young man. I wonder if they could have gotten him later.

Sounds like it was now or never, which is why we didn't trade down.

Consider this perspective:

The Cowboys have a future HOFer playing the same position as Tyler next season, Zack Martin.

They have a future HOFer playing the position that Tyler should eventually inherit.

These guys should be excellent mentors that will hold Tyler accountable. Unlike Williams, Tyler has the tools to be a strong force, he just needs to be more disciplined.

Tyron Smith can certainly understand Tyler's situation, he was also a young 20 year old when he started out. I believe Tyler will respect the veteran leadership on this line.

He is an excellent run blocker with two veteran RB's that can really benefit from Tyler's physical style of play so you know he will get plenty of encouragement from them.

Perhaps the circumstances of being drafted by the Cowboys is an excellent situation in that he is coming to a very experienced offense with teammates that will do all they can to help him learn quickly.

This could he one of those circumstances where he looks very much like a rookie in September but look completely different in December simply because of the intangibles of this offense and the players.

From Machota:

“The No. 1 thing is, (Tyler Smith’s) a big, athletic, physical man that’s going to play in a big, athletic, physical league,” Cowboys vice president of player personnel Will McClay said, “and that’s what we liked about him. … You look for the traits and then you look for the ability on tape. He showed those. He’s a first-round type player capable of competing in this league.

“The temperament he plays with and being young and the growth and the upside and potential, that’s also important, too.”

That is because you are a fan and not a scout. He should be an immediate starter at LG that could probably develop into a starting tackle in the future. He has a high ceiling and plays nasty. To top it off he just turned 21 this month. One of the youngest players in the draft.

Jerry likes em young. Keeps more of their prime years in their first post rookie contract.

Talk about telling me you only look at stats and not plays, without actually telling me you only look at stats and not plays.

I was making a joke about his holding issues. He certainly looks like a powerful player. I think he seems a bit comparable to Flozell Adams. Strong, looks like he could block well in terms of run blocking, his pass blocking does look pretty good.

I would have loved Olave but not trading up for him, no way. Really wish they would have traded down and given up their manlove for Tyler but, too bad we get less picks and a huge bust burden.

Jermaine Johnson would have knocked Dante Fowler off your depth chart completely. That would have been such a strong pick.

Johnson, Lawrence, Fowler, Parsons. Offense tackle wasn't the reason you lost to the 49ers. It's because you couldn't make Jimmy Garropolo look like the QB he is that's about to get cut.
Nope we lost to the 49ers because we couldn't block and we were not a tough team... we definitely got tougher at LG... I hope all our picks have this attitude... we need maulers!

we all know that’s a blatant lie. But they’re going to sell the pick hard to the fan base, and a good percentage of those fans are going to lap it up. There’s zero chance they had him that high

God knows this front office is what it is, and most of us get that, but there's also zero chance that you know what you're saying is correct.

Frankly, it makes more sense to me that they would have him that high if you believe they're not really good at their jobs (as I do).

Regardless, that's the pick. All we can do is hope this kid pans out. I really don't want to see a lot of McGovern out there.

Jerry made sure to say he wasn’t any lower than 16th on their board. He said a couple of days ago they only have 14 to 16 players with first round grades. lol

We obviously didn't have a 1st round grade on him. But Jerry knew he was going to be the guy. So the 14 players we had graded as first rounders got exaggerated in to 16. That's Jerry for ya. Always thinking ahead.

He's playing 4D chess...

Shouldn't we be concerned with JJ's mental state?
