Generally speaking, a guy who gets paid to evaluate players for a sports network probably knows about talent evaluation than some random on CZ.
Not only that, they have access to many other experts in the field.

Maybe. But the draft isn't over and neither is free agency after the draft. I also am unsure what Philbin will do. Last season was a nightmare.

It started out well before injuries hit. LG was a mess with Williams' penalties and McGovern's lack of power. Collins came back from suspension too heavy and Steele probably should have kept the spot. Then Tyron got hurt again and wasn't the same when he came back.

and two of them spoke about where he would be drafted and one of the two called him a second rounder. Stop trying to make yourself feel better by cherry picking clips. Either use the consensus or ignore them all. Let's just see how he is.

I am not trying to make myself feel better. I don’t need to. Just pointing out a fact. I was not the one that cherry picked one statement. I said as collectively. What part of that is cherry picking.

I can guarantee they have far more legit information than you. That's no assumption.

So 10 say not so great things and 1 says great things and that one also knows more than the other 10? Come on. Sounding desperate now

Cherry picking one tv personalities opinion and ignoring other. It thought it was obvious that's what I meant.

As far as me cherry picking that doesn't make sense. Someone posted the clip and I responded to what I heard. I didn't go searching for affirmation. He didn't give any reason we should like him. He read the standard "pros" off every scouting report and that was it. We all know the Pros. He just chose to ignore the cons. And yet people want to portray that as an expert opinion on why it was a good pick and start a thread called "Some experts like Tyler Smith more than you do" and use it as proof. Weak sauce IMO and I don't even have a huge problem with the pick

Terrence Steele is the RT on this team. That’s why they were comfortable letting Collins go.

This guys LG or LT eventually. So don’t know how much they really know what they’re talking about.

So what do the experts on average say? I bet it's closer to a C than an A without even looking. Or did you mean just the experts who say what you like?
I was quoting the OP so I am not sure his sources.
There is downside with this kid as well as upside.
Since we change the pick I am gonna hope for the best.

Me too.

AS I said in a couple of other threads what I like the most about this pick is playing him at LG. I think it will minimize some of his issues and give us a chance to use his strength and coach him up. Plus in some of the clips I saw it looked like he got to the 2nd level pretty well and when our Line is working well we get our Guards moving both to the second level and pulling. I don't know if he will ever be a good OT in the NFL but I think he can be a decent LG

Everyone has an opinion, but some folks who do this for a living think it's a good pick. Time will tell. Kid definitely plays with an attitude.

There are no experts in drafting. Just expert ametures that are no better than Bob "the Potato Couch" Scout. We just have to wait and see!

Desperate? There are more than one saying "Great things"? Where are all the links to these "great things" and A+ grades? Not people saying it's ok or a good pick. I want to read the great things to get me excited and from people who know what they are talking about, not random tv personalities who pretend to have watched him play. Or are you making it up...

Regardless you are barking up the wrong tree clueless because I'm fine with the pick now that they seem to be putting him at LG

So you're looking for a certain grade from the someone to validate he's a player . You do know Travis Fredick got average grades too. How did that turn out.

No. I'm not the one positing other people's opinions to help form my own or sway people. I'm looking for you to show me all these great things you said people are saying. I assume you have quotes or clips or grades since you mentioned it and told me I'm not paying attention. I'd like to see them. Not good things. Great things.

Cracks me up people want to mention Frederick and use that as a reason to say Smith may or may not be good. Like that is an indicator of anything

Qualify experts, and give their sterling resumes, to raise the confidence level of a fandom that is nearing the switch to bowling fans, and giving up the NFL in its entirety because of Jethro and Little Enos.

I think he misspoke and meant LT.

Probably not. We let our starting RT go, so they are assuming since Smith is a tackle that he would be the replacement. They don't understand that the RT replacement is Steele. These comments were made before the Cowboys clarified that Smith would be playing on the left side, which means for now that he's "competing" to start at left guard.

My hope is he'll lock in and stay at left guard and Ball will prove to be the future LT, but there's a lot of ifs right now. We don't even know if we're settled at RT with Steele.

Pro Football Focus gave him a 93.9 run-blocking grade in 2021, the highest ever for an American Athletic Conference offensive tackle.3 hours ago

But, who is Smith? Well, he's one some NFL general managers had a first-round grade on, despite his name having mostly flown under the radar of the general public until very recently, and the Cowboys were one such team.

Tyler Smith, Tulsa OT | NFL Draft Scouting Report

His scouting report is overlooked at times, but Tulsa OT and NFL Draft prospect Tyler Smith has some of the highest upside in the 2022 class.

Walter Football

Here are the thoughts of another area scout on Smith:

"He's the definition of a dancing bear at 6-foot-5, 320 pounds, freaky balance and bend. Powerful man. Physically in the Jason Peters, Greg Robinson sphere, not near as raw coming out and the good tape is very good. Just needs time because he plays the game a bit like a defensive tackle and needs to learn patience. He could go to guard as a rookie just to get him on the field and let him tee off on people, and in the right situation, a perennial Pro Bowl talent. He's the rare left tackle who can maul you in the run game. Not even close to what he can be - lightly recruited out of Fort Worth. Of the offensive linemen in this class, he's the one who could just as easily flip over to defensive tackle and still be a high-end talent because he's so big, explosive and physical.

"He's a clear first-round talent. Back half of first round could get interesting. I know offensive line coaches - they will fight like hell to get him. Can't find his size, athleticism, physicality, and raw intelligence at that young often enough. His issues are all correctable. As a player right now, he is more of a second-round pick, although if you watch Mississippi State, Oklahoma State both years, and Ohio State game this season, he was the best player on the field against their best competition."

Here's what one area scout texted me about Smith:

"If Tyler Smith blows up his combine and workouts, he could go top 10. He's more gifted than the other offensive tackles in this class besides the N.C. State kid. Smith is 6-foot-5, 325 pounds with 34-plus-inch arms. As violent as he plays and the fact he can play guard also, I could see someone pushing him up because he's only 20 and smart also. He'll hover bottom 1/early 2 until workouts and then we'll see how he handles process."
