Hopefully Tyron and Zack put baby bear under their wings…

I was going to say something similar. Tyler Smith has a lot of technique flaws but in addition to the coaches he'll have Tyron and Zack, two of the best technicians in the game, in his ear.

Based on what evidence? because he's "big"? He had 12 holding penalties against Tulsa competition last year and by all accounts is extremely raw technique wise....he has potential but I am not even sure he'll be a starter for awhile.
The evidence being that on the outside things are much more wide open. Inside at guard he will be in more of a confined space where he will be able at first just to rely on his strength and attitude. Connor’s problem was that he was kinda light in the azz where he would get overpowered and have to hold, this guy should not have that same issue.

Just my opinion but I think being inside with less movement to worry about should benefit him. It plays to his strengths while minimizing his weaknesses.

Exactly....not to mention it buys time for Tyron, Zack, and coaches to clean up his technical issues. The more I think about it, it's a brilliant move by the FO. In a nutshell, he's Tyron's replacement but has enough talent to immediately fill a needed position at LG while cleaning up his technical issues. Knowing how hard and expensive it can be to find/replace LT.......we already have ours. Classic killing two birds with one shot....

They're taking a guy that's never played Guard and making him a guard with our #1 pick when there were like 20 guys that are good at their original positions and certainly would've probably upgraded someone for real. This guy is 100% Boom or Bust. Very hopeful it is boom but there's just nothing/no film nothing yet that says he can play guard. That's kind of a big gamble for a #1 pick.

I'd understand if he were taken in the 3rd round. Just don't like the place he was selected. Nothing against the player for me.

If it helps, he went to North Crowley High School and played both guard and tackle there. I think I heard that he was initially brought to Tulsa to play guard but they decided to put him at tackle instead.

If he stays on the left side, the transition shouldn’t be as hard.

There was no way you would get a talent like him there.

I think I would've rather upgraded Center with Linderbaum then found a project in a later round, maybe add another FA. I like the kid actually, so I do hope it works out. Feels like a Taco type reach. Would like to be dead wrong.

One key difference from everything I’ve seen are the two players’ attitudes. They don’t seem anything alike, and that bodes well for Smith. If he fails, it won’t be for lack of effort.
