I agree with all you said,
My issue is, is that the front office refused to address Oline in free agency whatsoever and put us in a position to pick for need over BPA.
That is not a long term winning strategy in the NFL.

I totally agree with what you've said here. Stephen went public to claim the FO had done everything necessary to solidify their needs before entering the draft. That was nothing but a grievous falsehood on his part to say that. Stephen has failed miserably to be forthright with his words. He can't be trusted.

Don't think this front office has built up much in the way of trust, goodwill or confidence.

It all depends on if he turns out to be a good player.

I don’t put a lot of stock in draft picks and making “sense.” That’s usually an excuse or reasoning for why you picked a certain guy. At the end of the day, no one will care about the reasoning 3 or 4 years from now.

To my thinking, it's no small wonder why players don't appear to respond to him favorably when he attempts to sign them. He's dishonest. That will turn off anyone with a decent sense of fair play. He has no business being gifted with the position he holds. It's a shame Jerry can't see that -- I suspect they both share that character flaw. It's a sad situation for this team. I'm beyond fed up with our front office . . . (not that it's anything new.) o_O

Sorry for the rant . . . had to let it out.

Doesn't really matter now, the pick is in. The way the players attached to the Cowboys, Johnson, Green, Burks came off the board, they were stuck at 24 with a huge need on the OL. The need they created and failed to fill in FA.

Now, we get to put Tyler Smith's contribution up against Johnson, Lloyd, Wyatt and Karlaftis on the other side of the ball as they were the picks after Smith.

This was a pick based solely on need and we can only hope he addresses it better than the 2nd and 3rd rounders picked in previous drafts did.

It's only one pick, cheer up, there are more to be made that can really piss us off.

The Joneses are liars and have been all along. They don't care. They will keep lying and hope that others like Jane Slater has done today, keep pushing the lies as truth.

They have proven they don't care. After last year's 1st pick, Booger said it was always Parsons while the son said, at almost the same time, it was the 2 CB's and Parson's was the fall back and they obviously didn't love him because they risked losing him.

Of the twenty-four (24) top first-round draft picks the Cowboys have had during the Jones era (and prior to this year) sixteen (16) ended up as Pro-Bowlers. Since 2010, we've snagged eight (8) Pro-Bowlers (+ Cee Dee Lamb) with eleven (11) picks. Morris Claiborne and Taco Charlton were the only picks that didn't pan out. I suspect that record would stand respectably against that of any other team in the League.
And?

They reached badly last night once again.

The only positive if he plays guard is he won’t get pushed back in the run game like Williams. He’ll probably hold as much though.

he had one of the highest run block grades in the country. Hope it continues

Who would you have picked in that spot?
Since Jermaine Johnson dropped, absolutely would have taken him @ #24. Imagine Micah on one edge and Jermaine on the other? Total domination. Oh well.

Could have gone after Ed Ingram or Marquis Hayes in the 3rd round. Two proven big and strong Left Guards who have started for years and proven themselves in big Div I colleges (LSU & OU) in very tough conferences.

But, hey, let's get the NCAA holding penalties leader from a small school like Tulsa who also needs lots of work and time to "hopefully" become serviceable.

I don’t think the front office gives two..(insert vulgar comment) about building trust. They are raking in the dineros and the biggest concern is how big a yacht can they buy.

We will all hope that the poor FA decisions and this draft pan out. Jerry will tell us with a wink that he knows how good this team is and Tyler is just like Larry Allen only with a better bench press. We will all eat it up and watch as we go 9-8 next season with a first round bounce from the playoff, not quite sure why we keep hoping when 27 years should have taught us something.

After a night of shaking my head, I've looked into this Tyson Smith pick further, and it's really not that bad of a reach pick.

He's not the traditional "project player" that we all tend to hate in early rounds.

Smith is big enough, strong enough, quick enough, and nasty enough to play in the league RIGHT NOW. I get so tired of waiting for guys to spend 2 years in the weight room before they can stand up to NFL defensive linemen. Not the case with this kid. He's ready in that regard.

Technique isn't hard to teach if the player has the athletic and physical tools already. Smith will require coaching, but he's also got Tyron right next to him, and he has very much the same frame.

Smith is a natural left tackle, so he can immediately play at guard, then slide over when Tyron retires. That alone makes a ton of sense to pick a guy like this.

At that point in the draft with what was left, I would have preferred one of the two linebackers there so Parsons could run free. However, this offensive line issue is looming large, and so I get it.

Plus, I do trust McClay, and apparently he like this guy a lot even if it wasn't his preferred pick to fall to Dallas.

Tonight has to make this pick make perfect sense however.
It was a pretty good under the radar signing imo

So true, and the fact the Owner/GM think he has to support the pick by showing everyone the Draft board......think this is a lazy mans pick.....hope it pans out though but I got a feeling it is Conner Williams 2.0

The problem is he doesn't know how to play. Good dt's will eat him for lunch. He's got 1 move, bad feet, can't pull. He's strong though. So when he gets flagged for holding he will look tough.

A guy on The Fan was saying, most holding calls come from poor footwork. So can Philbin teach him proper footwork.
In his interview with The Fan, Smith said he is ready to learn and be coached upped. That he is always willing to learn and never stops to improve. He will do what it takes to get better, and help the team.
That he would play OG or any of the 5 positions to contribute.
He was excited about coaching and being coached up. I think he can end up being the steal of the draft.
