To summarize, he is saying they drafted for immediate need. I don't think Tyler Smith will be a premiere left tackle in the NFL now or in the future. I just do not know how much he can improve his footwork and his hand placement.

I am glad to hear Farniok is going to get a chance to compete is B-eye-a-dash and I think he may turn out to be a better center the Biadasz at some point. And I agree Biadasz has shown improve and which means C is not a big need, at least not as big as LG. But given who was on the board at the time, I think Linderbaum ends all talk of C for the next 10 years. I think Jermaine Johnson provides an upgrade at DE.

I had a feeling going into this draft that Green and Johnson would be gone by 24. There were too many teams in need of OL help this year. I think the Cowboys got caught off guard when Green, Johnson and Penning were off the board. They were in a corner needing a LG so they took the next guy on the board.

I don't know if I believe them when they claim they had Smith rated above Green and Johnson though. But it is possible since the Cowboys rate position flexibility so highly. They didn't want an OG or a C, they wanted someone who could play G or OT which limits the choices. I am not a fan of this thinking. I would take Linderbaum who projects to be a solid C or all-Pro C for years over a guy with theoretical position flex.

His college OLine coach was a young graduate assistant who was fired last year.

And what about the one before that and the one before that. The most common constant are people picking these raw talents that "they can coach up" that just never ended up being coached up. The one constant is the overreaching.

That 2015 draft was very good... but then there was Chaz Green T Fla.
If memory still works, the were BIG question marks about him. And even worse, they kept him around for 3-4 yrs taking up space on the bench & cap room. Since then, JJ hasn't made too may of those mistakes.
But Stephen, he doesn't tickle my a** with a feather and give warm & fuzzys.

That actually works for some teams. Most NFL offensive lines don't consist of 3 or 4 first round picks.

Unfortunately, "coach em up" hasn't worked so well in Dallas. Who keeps hiring these coaches?
Steele...

when presented with multiple options, One thing I have learned about leaders is that

1. A good leader, GM most of the time, NOT always, makes the right choice. Its an instinct they developed over their lifetime

2. A nad leader/GM most of the, not always (Micah, Zach), makes the wrong choice. They don't have that instinct and can't get it. Example, cowboys since 1996

He has presumably been playing football for quite a long time. If the coaching hasn't hit home yet then why would it suddenly hit home now?
Smith. Supposedly they had a real soft spoken OL coach at Tulsa and also young. I thought smith has only been playing football for 5 years.

This is like a yearly thing. Overly complain about the pick. If they took the C then the complaint would be they didn't address the guard issue.

Cowboys have a pretty good track record drafting. That's not their issue.

LOL.............no way was Collins even close to the best run blocking RT in the NFL.

Steele and the run game were steamrolling people when he was in there. The moment Collins came back the line went in the toilet. The guy is a clown. Good riddance.
Collins was a great run blocker and he was probably the best RT in the league until he got paid. From the moment that he signed that contract, football was no longer a priority in his life. In his mind, I doubt that he even considered being cut or traded. All that money went straight to his head.

Jerry never fails to claim that the player they drafted was rated much higher on their boards than the pick used to draft the player.

Yup, “Just coach em up”… everything will be fine. Nothing to worry about on the Good Ship Lollipop
Coach him up well how about clean him up as in can you clean up all the freakin penalties, obviously not otherwise you would have done it with Connor Williams.
