Anyone know about the monster tackle from Minnesota?
Faalele? 6'8" 384 LB mailer.

Developmental but the idea of him and Tyler opening up holes is fun.

We have other needs though. With Smith, Smith, Ball and Steele we're probably set at OT this year.

We've got a lot of picks coming up. Just take the better prospects is all I ask. Yeah I'd like a LB, TE, RB etc but potential means a lot at this point. I dont expect large rookie contributions from the 4th round on.

It'll be interesting to see what vet FAs are still left and if they sign anyone that can help plus unaddressed needs.

I'm greedy, we got Dak in the 4th round in 2016. Let's get another Dak type this year.

He's a really good guard who does indeed offer position flex in a pinch, to allow you to bring less guys.
I agree that is what he is. I know he is very young, but watching him, I just don't know if he has the skill set to be an NFL LT. He looks like he is at his worst out in space and moving his feet even though he is athletic. He just starts grabbing so often. You can say that he can be taught not to, but guys grab to keep from getting beat, not because they want to grab. It's a learned response to getting beat. Truth is at this point he has a lot to learn and develop before he'll ever be an NFL OT. He could end up a great one for all we know but I see more OG potential when I watch him and he does look to have potential to be a really good one and there is nothing wrong with being an OG, especially since we need one so badly. The reason I disliked the pick so much was because of who else was on the board and I had viewed him pre-draft as an OT prospect only. Knowing that they are putting him at Guard and looking at him that way I'm kind of excited about the pick. I think the running plays where he drives down more like a Guard does, he looks really good and he even shows the ability to engage and then move on to a LB in tight quarters which is more something you want in a Guard than a Tackle. Plus pass blocking as a Guard will rely more on his strength. Who knows but I'm looking forward to this kid getting to camp with our coaches and seeing what he can do. He will be given every chance to start and I expect him to be out there week 1 and only get better from there.

The way I look at it is if he is nothing more than just better than Conner Williams right off the bat the pick still pays dividends for us because Williams and Biadasz together was a disaster. If he is let's say as good as Leary it will be huge next year for this Offense. Helps our running game and passing game. He has the strength to hopefully hold his ground against the bull rush of the NFCE DTs. They are big and strong and good and beat up both Williams and Biadasz against the run and the pass. If he actually ends up a really good player, it will transform our Offense back to what we all hoped we might be.

Agree completely and we have plenty of cap space to fill out the roster before camp.

Imo, if he's half as good as Eric Williams prior to the injury or Larry Allen, this is an NFC Championship -caliber line between him, Tyron, Zach, and Steele. We need to improve at C though.

No doubt, but I just don't like mentioning Williams and Allen comparisons even if we say "half as good". That's rarified air with two of the best OL in history.

Not happening here! Practically everyone and their granny got off to some negative impressions of him. He's already overcome it. ;)

When he was selected, I put on his tape: I was impressed and ok with the pick. I did the same with the Sam Williams pick and was equally impressed. I have not seen enough tape on our 3rd round pick to be impressed yet as I'm still waiting on that receiver who can take the top off defenses and scare them deep.

If you watch Smith tape at this point he looks more like a wrestler who over powers guys in that conference than a football player. Do I think he has measurables to be a quality player? Yes. However his technique needs a lot of refinement or he gonna get multiple flags per game and he won't be able to just over power opponents in the league.

Who in the world thought of him as the next Tyron Smith?

I was thinking the next Larry Allen.

Is it too much to ask that Tyler Smith be the Tyler Smith with better technique and without the penalties?

Smith is a Mauler, and will get flagged in pass protection until tech is corrected, but I will take that all day with this player.
Give me a RB at some point on day 3, and this running game can get better quickly, and the return on Smiths investment will be expedited and noticed quickly as well.
