I see linebacker in his future. A Keanu Neal role.
It is a good point that Dan Quinn's scheme can utilize players that might not be highly valued by many teams. Kearse for example.

In theory, Jabril Cox is the perfect replacement for Neal.
- Cox was the top coverage LB in the 2021 draft.

Kearse played a hybrid Safety/LB role in 2021.
- Markquese Bell seems like a potential backup to Kearse in that role.

Why I was hoping they would sign JoJo Domann out of Nebraska as an UDAF. I think he has those traits

Very good UDFA signing. Glad they got him, but would everyone be this excited about him if they had drafted him in the 6th?

Who knows....I feel for most fans after the 3rd round they are going off of what the read as opposed to what they know or have seen (obviously some watch a loy more ncaa ball than others).

People typically seem to like value picks later in the draft so he probably wouldn't have been as exciting as a 5th

So why wasn’t he drafted?

Evidently, the team held others in higher esteem -- makes sense . . . Matt Farniok, for example. They'll all get their chances. ;)

Alec Lindstrom got good reviews as a C prospect, though. He'll surely be tested in TC. Farniok has a year under his belt, as well.

He is a 'traits' player. Exactly what you want as UDFA.

  • He had a very up and down college experience:
  • 2017: Maryland early enrollee; Suspended prior to the season and left the program in November.
  • 2018: Community college.
  • 2019: Florida A&M; Led team in PD, FFs, INTs.
  • 2020: Florida A&M apparently completely cancelled their season.
  • 2021: Florida A&M; First Team All-American; First Team All-SWAC; Led team in tackles, FFs.
It's his last 2 playing years that make me wonder why he wasn't drafted. Those are some pretty good accolades to go alone with that speed and anticipation. Yeah for us I guess.

Funny just read this before logging on. Don't know how to rename links, but it's about Bell.

Strengths:
  • Athletic and versatile aptly describes Bell’s game. At the NFLPA Bowl, he showed he could walk out and hold his own as a Boundary CB. Some teams may view him there as a pro.
  • Terrific blitzer, who is able to bring pressure from anywhere he’s asked to deploy. For a DB, he actually gets pretty good run fits.
  • Takes smart, efficient angles to the football, and has the speed to shrink the time and space in getting there.
Areas of Improvement:
  • Pad level is very inconsistent when approaching ball carriers. When he's level, he’s getting great tackles. When he's high, he's whiffing.
  • Can look a bit out of place in deep zone coverage.

Bell at CB is intriguing as heck.

Trade Bossman Fat already.
