True story....... Ive been following the draft closely for many decades, Before the internet I used to buy a couple of the draft rags they had out at the time and go from that. Cant remember which one but this is what they had to say about our very own Darren Woodson who started out as a LINEBACKER by the way...... " Small, soft,....THIS GUY DOESNT HIT ANYBODY" :muttley: I never forgot that. Whenever Im so sure about what some draft guru has to say about a certain player I always think back to Darrens player profile write up to remind me just how wrong the "experts" can be.

Jake seems to fit how our TE's are used. Everyone thought Schultz was terrible then he's put up back to back top 10 years all because an injury forced him on the field. Jake may develop into a solid player for the simple way they use the position.

In terms of speed......that's a lot. That's 4 yards difference in the 40.

No it's not.

Simplified
Time= yard per second
4.0 = 10
4.1 = 9.8
4.2 = 9.5
4.3 = 9.3
4.4 = 9.1
4.5 = 8.9
4.6 = 8.7
4.7 = 8.5
4.8 = 8.3
4.9 = 8.2
5 = 8

4.75=8.42
4.81=8.31

Which means if both ran their respective times in the 40 Ferguson would be at yard mark 39.48 or 0.52 yards behind Schultz when Dalton crosses the line

One thing about the draft that NEVER changes....No matter who we draft there will be fans that think its the best draft we ever had...LOL, There will also be fans that think its the WORST draft we ever had. In reality,.....the truth is normally somewhere about in the middle. :D

Jake will do just fine.....means Dallas will not have to extend Schultz next season. The Cowboys are not looking for a Kyle Pitts at TE, wouldn't know what to do with him.

^^^^^
This!
He will be cheap and serviceable for the next 4 years.
I just think they could have got the same player (maybe with a different last name) at the beginning of the 5th.

That doesn’t seem right to me. Four yards is 10% of 40 yards so it seems it would have to be a 5.225 to make a 4 yard difference.

Slow and not a good blocker. Hoping for the best though
He was the 8th TE drafted.

Blocking
Based on my reviews of game footage for that group of 8 I had Ferguson as the 3rd best blocker.

Speed
His 20-yard and 10-yard splits were about mid point for the group of 8.

I was disappointed when Otton was taken at the top of the 4th.

Ferguson is the replacement for Schultz in 2023.
- Maybe not a big upgrade, but equal or better with a low salary.
- Ferguson is a better blocker than Schultz.
- Ferguson has better run after catch ability than Schultz.
- He is better in the redzone than Schultz.

Summary: Not a huge upgrade to Schultz, but at least equal at a much lower cost.

2023:
- My favorite player at this point in the 2023 draft is Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer.
- His route running is Amari Cooper-ish.
- Rare to see a TE with that quickness in/out of breaks.
