Exactly.

Mel went on and on about how the colts were stupid for tking Edgerrin James over Rickey Williams lol

The guy has no idea what he is doing.
Haha you're absolutely right, but sadly Mike Ditka fell for the banana in the tailpipe.. He gave up his ENTIRE Draft [Saints traded all six draft choices in 1999 and gave up their 1st. round and 3rd. round picks in 2000] to get Williams. "The Edge" went from Gold teeth to Gold Jacket., while Rickey smoked himself out of the league.. sad story for sure.

Wait. I forgot that we always draft well all of the time constantly.

Disregard my above comment.

I was thinking same thing. I’m not sure why people are getting so defensive. We definitely have ? On some guys. He praised our last two before this and I’m sure it was used as ammo against “haters”

They are fifth round picks because there are uncertainties about them. Good coaching will develop them. Hopefully they provide depth. Not every player on the team can be a top ten pick.

Lmao.

Isn’t the draft a bunch of unknowns and it’s based off potential???

Guarantee this draft has at least 3 starters by seasons end (Smith, Williams, Tolbert) and multiple role players.
Smith switching to a position he didn’t play at all is an uncertainty
But that’s really the only one
A player with previous off field stuff really isn’t
Lots of players with no history get into trouble later
He either grows up or he doesn’t but that’s true with probably a quarter of the draft

Who do you put more stock in, our playoff record for many years or Kiper? It doesn’t matter who we draft. Jerry’s world ain’t about winning Super Bowls.

I love how the sports media talking heads are now sanctioned as analyst. That’s a nice relabeling. There are a few coaches and players worth the name but some of the noise makers are irritating at best

I stopped listening to Mel Kiper when he told me Emmitt Smith was too small and too slow to have much of a career in the NFL. Haven't paid attention to him since. Yall should do the same.

I trust Will McClay way ^ than Mel. I defer 2 Will.

For sure.

If you really know what you're looking at, you know Mel is full of it. Tyler Smith isn't that much of an unknown. The coaches will get to this kid. He has a good head on his shoulders. Same for Tolbert. Tolbert will thrive in Dallas with Prescott. I suspect the same thing for Sam Williams. The only thing questionable thing in regards to him is character. And he has a kid now, and is supposedly more settle down.

We all know as much as Kiper. He's just a fan, who enjoys watching the game like us.

It never ceases to amaze me how people need the validation of others to make them feel better about their team and their draft. If you like the Cowboys’ draft, then roll with that. If Mel Kiper or others on this board don’t, then let that roll off you. Clearly Kiper has hit a nerve with other people where his opinions differ from theirs, and they take to ridiculing him and his work that he has managed to make a pretty nice life for him and his family for 40 years with. Who cares if someone else doesn’t like the Cowboy draft? If you do like it, that should be enough.

Me? I think it was a middle of the road effort with a number of missed opportunities.

I think Kiper is a dinosaur. But he is right this is a boom or bust draft class. Could be the best draft class ever or one of the worst

You might not have noticed but the game has changed since 1985. The very best offenses have tight ends who can stretch the field.
We have a 160 million QB and want a TE that can Block when all NFL teams want the stretch the field TE like you describe.:omg:
Cowboy football is simply the greatest!!!!:muttley:

Honestly I think as fans were so desperate for a win of any kind that we look for it any way possible.

We have lost confidence as a fan base due to the challenges over the last 2 decades and unfortunately it's made us more reliant on affirmation from others to make us feel better about our team

I'm as guilty as any for looking for the validation, it sucks but it's the byproduct of lots of years of disappointment

it would be foolish to think this draft doesnt have any warts.only Tolbert is a good safe pick, all others have risks attached to them.
