Im open minded, as long as its legit good or bad .

He’s giving his honest opinion. I doubt any of these draft experts are going to intentionally give us a bad draft grade because of some bias against the Cowboys. They make their living doing this they don’t want come off looking stupid. I can easily admit a team had a good draft even if I hate the team.

A lot of gamber picks with not many sure bets. Kiper isn’t wrong at all to say that. We did reach for several players with high upside for their draft spot.

Remains to be seen how it works out. My guess - somewhere in the middle.

The guys who dropped with injuries, character issues, technique questions, or in some cases skill questions - some will work out, some won’t. My guess, not a horrible draft like Kiper says, and not a great draft either. After a few years we probably look back at it as an average draft. But I hope I’m wrong.

And let’s wait a few years before grading it. Every fan and media member wants to overrate a Dallas Cowboy.

I agree. They are analyst . And more informed than most fans.

Mel Kiper is an expert . No one knows the draft better than him. That doesn’t mean he knows where they are going or he had correct instinct on their abilities and talent. He’s not a talent scout. He just has researched the players. No one can keep up with him in that regard. He lives and breathes it 365. It’s insane.

If he doesn't know where they're going, and doesn't know their abilities or talent, because he's proven that a lot, what is he an expert on?

Tbh I think they made a huge mistake. They have so many holes to fill.

I have to update what I said. I incorrectly thought the lions gave up the 34th and 66th to move up from 32 to 12. The Vikings actually swapped 2nd round picks too.

The Vikings did the lions a solid? Did they owe them something? All the Vikings got for moving all the way back to 32 from 12, was a 3rd round pick and swapping 2nd round picks. Strange.

So, anyway, Mel Kiper gave us x grade... What grade to you give us?

I think we filled needs rather well in the first 3 rounds.

From there, I didn't care what they did. I'm hoping those two LBers tear it up. And I hope the new TE surprises people..

I think he will. He's a huge target for Dakota. And these receivers will already be spreading the field. It'll be nice seeing him get settled in behind Schultz, at least.

I’m only saying most of them are better experts than most fans on an anonymous forum.

And Mel isn’t an actor. He’s the ultimate draft guru. No one else on TV has researched it as well as him. It doesn’t mean he gets picks or scouted talent right, it means he’s identified who’s all fits needs for teams and players who will probably be selected.

I bet he was closer to the 264 players selected overall in draft than most would be. Most fans could do maybe the first round but not all the way thru.

Problem with Mel over the years grading the Cowboys, when Dallas does go truly BPA, Mel would argue they failed to select players based on their needs and graded them down for it accordingly.

Then, when they actually draft primarily with needs in mind like this draft, he downgrades them for not going BPA and for "reaching" for need.

Seems pretty inconsistent but I have the early grade of B- myself for this draft so a C+ is not bad considering

They are picking late in each round as well and did not have two high or mid first rounders like two of our division opponents, easy to look good when you have those selections and options early.

The info of the players and about where they could go in the draft. Mel is simply the draft guru of the modern era regardless if we agree or not . No one else in media has researched , gathered and compiled as much detailed info on all of the prospected players. Truly incredible however annoying he is to listen to.

Mel claimed Andre Wadsworth was the next Bruce Smith. He was only 192 sacks off.

There is a really good reason why those media "draft experts" don't have jobs working in the NFL as draft experts.

Like Stephen and Jerry? They don't have jobs on NFL teams b/c they make more money in TV and other media. Kiper has been grading drafts since before they were even televised. He literally invented the entire concept of grading drafts.

Nobody is right all the time. Even the best.

Pretty sure team scouts were doing that before Mel.

The guy is hardly worth a comment, he will try and come up with anything to try and justify his wisdom, his statement's last year that Micah wasn't a #7 pick is one of many he got wrong, that's why he is on ESP-N

You mean a person did not predict every single picks production in the draft exactly... oh wait that makes him just as good as the NFL execs doing it. None of them know exactly how good these players will be but they are all extrapolating based on past value and how the player fits the scheme. At the end of the day the players are still people though, but it is also worth noting that there is a strong connection between drafting "well" and finding good players so there is a little more to it than throwing names at a dart board.

I think Mel nailed it. The 7th tackle off the board in round 1 is usually going to be a reach based on need. Plus, he's a small school guy who didn't have to go up against NFL caliber prospects, and even at that level of football, he was highly penalized. We drafted him not for what he accomplished in college but b/c he has physical traits that indicate he could be a lot better. We'll coach him up....... just like we did with........... nobody. Our other first round OL picks Frederick, Zach, and Tyron were great college football players who were tested against the best in college. They were not ground up projects like this kid.
The second pick is a situational pass rusher who was awful against the run and probably could have drafted in round 3. Jalen Tolbert is a need pick.

Overall, what we gained this offseason doesn't equal what we lost. The other NFC East teams made up a lot of ground.

He’s guilty of over hyping but yea, he’s the draft guru of the modern era regardless if we agree or not on his assessments.

C+ isn’t that far off and he admittedly is giving us that lower grade because of our 1st round pick and who we passed on.

Most places I’ve seen have given us a B to B- which C+ isn’t much of a stretch from there .

Say what you want about Mel but he's made a lucrative career at throwing darts..
I find him extremely annoying so I don't watch him or espn for that matter, but part of me respects how he created the market for his 'services' and has kept it going for so long. And all with essentially no qualifications as I understand it. I don't know if he's any good at his job, or if he ever was, but he's had an amazing run.
