How we get better than last season

I'll start by saying this isn't what I think will happen, but rather, this is what I think needs to happen if we are to be better than last season. There's clearly been a talent drain on offense (Cooper, Collins, Wilson, Williams, Jarwin) and it has been replaced with far less. That means like Dan Quinn did last season, we need for our offense to get more from less.

So my list of things that need to happen to be better than last season:
  1. Tyler Smith needs to be on the rookie team of the year.
  2. Ceedee needs to have double-digit TD's and be force feed by Dak, scheme'd open by Kellen
  3. Ferguson needs to be a sneaky red zone threat and RedZone foil to Ceedee
  4. Zeke needs to get out of Pollard's way
  5. Farniok needs to take Biadasz's job
  6. Dak needs to stay healthy and have confidence in his O-line
That's a big ask, I have no confidence it will happen, but if we can make it happen then we could take a step forward from what we saw last season.

The planets are basically going to have to align.
Everything you mentioned would have to fall just right.
It's possible, but not probable.

I would add they will have to figure out a more modern offensive scheme.
Garrett 2.0 ain't gonna cut it.

Losing Moore would be an addition by subtraction. That's how we get better. So our offense won't be any better this year, but the defense will. We just need to bring back Bill Callahan as our offensive coordinator next year.

Moore sucks.

If what you say comes to pass, that would be great. But let's take a more realistic approach. Just take two of your 6. Say 2 and 3. Williams is as good as people think and is an impact player. Some of our interior lineman on D improve and we're better against the run. Not likely, but legit possibilities.

I got the impression that the Cowboys were drafting with status quo in mind. I would have taken a different path and focused on what the draft gave us. The Cowboys could have improved the D, and waited until the 3rd round for an OL. At least there's improvement somewhere as opposed to status quo. But that's just my crap opinion, and I'm usually wrong anyway.

I think they will be better this year.

Tyler Smith He needs to be coached but I could see smith opening some wholes for Zeke and Pollard.
Sam Williams I think he could have more sacks than Gregrory. Ojulari who was picked at about the same place as Williams had 8 sacks.
Jalen Tolbert I think he could replace Coopers production last year. Cooper had 865 yards receiving. The Lions rookie WR Amon St. Brown that graded out the same as Tolbert had 912 yards
Jake Ferguson. Our offense is most efficient in the 12 personnel and Blake Jarwin was hurt most of the time. Ferguson is reliable as they come and knows how to get open.
Damone Clark I didn't think he would play this year but they're saying five more months of recovery. If so he is a tackling machine and would be a year one contributor in the front 7.
John RIdgeway He's not Jordan Davis but if he can keep the LBs clean our run defense will be much better.

The offense will get better if the Oline performs better, and it really is as simple as that. Dak is a good qb, but not a guy who will cover major deficiencies like we had last season. Oline plays well, the running game shouldnt fall off a cliff like it did last year. With a solid running game to keep defenses honest Dak can flourish, and we still have enough talent at the skill positions for him to do so.

I thought dallas hired a coach to help Moore? Who was that guy again? That would help improve the team the most!

I think Biadasz did a decent job at C and I think he will improve. Now if someone else comes in and just takes his job then so be it.

How we get better than last year is simple: Defense gets better and the Offense doesn't sputter towards the ends of the season.

Dak needs to replicate last years first half for the whole season. That’s where the season hinges.

need to committ more to the run game.
og tyler smith should help make that an easier decision as the game unfolds.

i dont think our pass game will drop off w/out coooooooooooooooop.
he'll be missed but wr's jalen tolbert and james washington will have a positive impact on our offense.

defensively...dlaw...sam i am...and dante fowler need to put qb's down.
they need to continue to turn the lion loose.
and hopefully our dt group...gallimore,odighizuwa,ridgeway,watkins,bohanna and hill can figure out how to stop the run.

if we can score in the red zone and get stops on 3rd down...we'll be improved over last season.
if we continue to struggle in the red zone and not get stops to close out games...we won't.

There's no case to be made that we are better on paper than last year.

Doesn't mean the results won't change.

Our best players stepping it up come January is what's needed most.

If they go 9-8 but lose in the NFC CG I'd consider that success/progress more so than 13-4 and another round one loss.

given not all of this will happen, we are looking at a 9-8 season....2nd place in NFC east and probably missing playoffs depending on how other teams do

Seasons like 2021 have been the ceiling over the last 20 years. They've also not been able to replicate them the following year.

I don't expect 2022 to deviate from that pattern.

..the OL has to step up the game. Dak's confidence level rides the wave with it. Its better to have 4-5 secs to throw then 2-3. Makes world of difference.

Don’t see us being better this season at least not record wise. The only thing that will make a difference is a more determined group of players with at least two rookies making a significant impact and better coaching. McCarthy is on the hot seat and if the Cowboys don’t make the playoffs or at least get past the divisional round he’s likely gone.

Callahan left the Cowboys with a world of hurt over being disrespected the Cowboys' FO. The chances of his return are likely nil.

I agree that we'd be lucky if somehow Bill Callahan were to decide to let bygones be bygones and make his blessed return to Dallas.

To be sure, the folks within the Washington Football Team are all too well aware of how fortunate they to have him. I doubt he'll leave.

I think this team has a decent chance of ending the upcoming season with a 10-7 record.
Whether it's enough to win the Eastern Division simply remains to be determined.

Let's just say the planets will be obliged to align properly for such a scenario to be seen!
