We coulda got the Best RB in this Draft at #1

And we coulda got Jelani woods at #2

Now we're gonna be playing with a washed up (for 2 years) Zeke and Sean McKeon. Lol.

We needed speed, scoring and big playmakers.

Grade D

Easy grading system. Only 5 teams didn’t receive As or Bs.

These grading systems make me laugh because those that grade don't have a clue what they are grading

Some of you really get hung up on draft grades. No one will find out what their draft grade is until these players hit the field and see what impact they make. Too many players turn out either better or worse than their draft grade to put too much weight on team draft grades. Years ago I used to get caught up on draft grades but not anymore.

Honestly, I’m always excited to see the guys we draft. I don’t care about draft grades. It takes a minimum of two years to know whether an entire draft is good or not.

There isn’t a self appointed guru on our boards or a so called expert in a media outlet that really knows what kind of draft we had. It always takes time.
Yep, can't even grade 2021 yet except for the 1st round.

Years ago they didn't even have draft grades and had 12 rounds. It was unusual for even 1st rounders to contribute enough in their rookie season to get a handle on them. And there were HC's that refused to play OL until their soph season.

That's back when I saw value in preseason games because that's where we got to see the youngsters playing. I can remember keeping tabs on Cowboys draftees as they moved up the depth chart.

Hell, right now you can pencil in Smith and Tolbert as starters on day 1 and Williams will be in rotation, and it could be heavy rotation.

I completely agree with this. No one knows how any of these players will turn out. But did anyone doubt Micah Parsons was going to be a good player? Maybe we didn't expect him to be as good as he was but no one thought he would be a bust. I know I do not have that comfort about any of the Cowboys picks this year.
Parsons was a #12 pick too so the likelyhood of picking a stud is 3xs higher that at the #24 spot. It just depends on what positions are coming off the board. And are ya getting a player who is the best at their position.

I doubtt very seriously the fo thought Tyler Smith was a top 3-4 day 1 prospect.

I think they just drafted the best guy they could get at that spot. Imo

Hopefully it turns out good right away. He certainly has the measureables

The cowboys don't like to look bad aka Gregory and Collins. So they do stuff to OVERCOMPENSATE imo

Especially when the Best 1700 yard per season stud RB was on the board at 24

Nobody can make much of an argument on why we shouldn't have picked the best RB

But they can make one on why ya picked the 8th best olineman. Lmao

I remember seeing draft grades back in the 80s. I used to go to newsstands and look at football publications to see how the Cowboys draft was graded. Many years ago teams didn’t have OTA’s and mini camps. Players didn’t do anything until training camp. With all the offseason work we see today rookies are able to make an impact. QBs develop much quicker than they used to.

Not calling anybody out, but draft grades before any of these players even put on a pro uniform is a waste of time.

Nobody has any idea who is going to be a bust this year. In a few years we could be laughing at the hauls of the Eagles, Giants, Jets, Lions, etc.. Is it likely? Maybe not, but it's probably more likely than we think.

Kinda sounds like you're calling me out since I posted the link and I don't appreciate that.

If draft grades are such a waste of time for you then I suggest you not click on a thread that is clearly about draft grades.

The same fans that are crying on Zeke's behalf are prolly the same fans who were crying to keep #82 for 7+ years past his prime. Lmao.

We fall in love in the early stages of the relationship. Then talk about how it used to be for 3-7 years too long. Ha ha ha

This is a business. Sometimes ya gotta players from a distance if ya WANNA WIN!!!

Sorry, I didn't intend to call you out. I clicked the link because I think it's interesting to see what people think about the draft right now. The point I was making is that these grades are going to change over time. I appreciate you taking the time to post this because I did find it interesting.

Again, I want to apologize since this was not meant to be directed at you, it was directed at the people that make the grades (if that makes sense).

I don't disagree and this is what I have been saying. It comes down to who was available when a team selects a player. But this can be manipulated by trading up a few stops to get a guy who is better than the guy that would fall. The Eagles, for example, moved up to get ahead of the Ravens to select Jordan Davis. Davis is clearly the guy they wanted and they must have suspected the Ravens wanted him too. I am not wildly crazy about the Tyler Smith pick but I do understand that moving up to 19 to get Penning would have been too costly. They made the right move staying where they were and getting Smith.

Too many draft grades are given for who is selected and not who was selected considering who was available.

This was a very deep class because a lot of players took advantage of Covid eligibility rules and returned to school in 2021 instead of declaring. That's why there were so many UDFA's that could have been drafted. The Cowboys ended up with quality start to finish.

If we draft the top RB and he's as good as Pollard or Zeke. We can trade off one or both for a position of need to a team that needs a RB more than an ol etc.

At least we're set at the position for the future and not going into next year in a straightjacket lol

we moved on from 3 good football players voluntarily. Gregory Collins and Cooper. That opened up holes that forced us to make decisions to OVERCOMPENSATE lol

I'm not complaining about Smith btw

But if you asked me rn if I'd rather have Tyler Smith and Zeke or Connor Williams and Breece Hall It a NO BRAINER to me which one I'm choosing for the future.

I think that’s the catch. I feel it’s a B … but if a few guys like Williams and Damone ball out the next few years, it’ll be an A
Yup. Like this draft class has the chance to be great. It just depends on the coaching which does not give me great hope

Grades mean nothing at this point, 1 to 2 years from now maybe even longer, you may then be able to assign a grade to each teams draft.
Just raw potential at this point. Not final product.
