A friend of mine's son is on the Univ of Georgia track team, so I've been keeping up with their progress, including the UGA and former Texas High School sprinter-star Matthew Boling.

Well, this past week he made some track world history by completing this trifecta
  1. Broke the 10 second barrier in the 100 meters (10.98)
  2. Broke the 20 second barrier in the 200 meters (19.97)......to go with what he did earlier
  3. Topped 8 meters in the long-jump (8.25 meters)

In the world history of Track and Field, among thousands (millions?) of athletes,
only TWO track stars have ever accomplished this trifecta

The only other?
You may have guessed it, the all-time great........

Carl Lewis...who is at another level altogether

Try 9.98 which is a time he ran as a HS kid, first sub10.00 there but......wind aided.

He is the first white American to break 10.00 legal, which is big news in the track world.

Right now his job is to score points for Georgia so we see him running 100/200/400 long jumping and both relays. We won;t get a real read on him until he leaves Georgia's and can zero in on his best event....the 200m.

While he is a great NCAA athlete he will have his hands full trying to make the World team later this season. Hell an 18 year old just ran 19.49 and we have a gang of guys sub 9.90.

Yep, being a sub 10.00, sub20,00 and over 27 is outstanding, and like you mentioned only Lewis had gone there,. But we do have to put Jesse Owens "world records" at 100, 200, long jump as being superior.

One of Bolings early highlights, still in HS here.

Yeah, Carl was the top of his generation. Mathew needs to get faster to win on the world stage. But, amazing athlete. I ran the 100 and 200 in High school so I can really appreciate the magnitude of what he has already accomplished.

Yeah, just a thread showing an unusual triple accomplishment.

Not saying Boling will do anything in any of the three individual events, just that he did all three at a level that exceeded a threshold only Lewis had exceeded...again, as a triple.
I assume the long jump added to the others made it unusual.

No real expectation for this guy to win the world games in any of these events....not the point of the thread, at all.

I'm friends with the parents of one of the UGA track guys and they pointed it out, so I thought I would share.

Right now the goal is winning the SEC then the NCAA, and he will be Georgia's main man. Very real to see him scoring in five events. think that is allowed maybe only four.

Like I mentioned he is an NCAA cat, he has it differently than the pro guys. Let's see how he does at the SEC, ya can't just praise him then forget about him.
