Very interesting.

A few notes on these rankings:

1. Glad they downgraded Walker, imo not enough, but i don't get him at 1 at all.
2. I thought the Giants got the best two players in the draft, was waiting to analyze Kayvon, but Neal is no doubt the best OT.
3. I don't get the Drake London analysis...Jameson was by far and away the best wr in this class injury or not.
4. I would have also had Hutchinson lower.
5. Cine is proof they went with need over ranking when they are close.
6. Still studying Davis, but I am leaning toward massively overated.

I agree 100% with your assessment. But none more than number 6. Before he ran that 40 time he was graded a mid to late first round. What I heard on sports radio was issues with stamina and keeping his weight down. I'm hoping he still has issues.

In reference to 6 . . . Don't lean too far . . . You may fall over . . . But its alright you can always act like you have always loved him when He becomes a Pro Bowler and mans the Line for the next 10 years.

But I understand your concearn its hard to formulate an original thought when all the talking heads and pubdits keep repeating the same thing over and over

It might have been a closer blend on BPA/Need.
If you follow a good draft board that is always the best outcome when need meets BPA and vice versa, neither is polarizing objective.

Spot on. If the talent is an out and out difference maker (over what you've got) then sure pick him. Looking at Jerry Board the only two players HIGHER THAN Smith was Williams a WR (that's coming off an injury, doesnt help the much voiced "what do we do until Gallup's fit") and Cine....Hooper/Wilson and Kearse, ok Cine may have provided an upgrade, but not as much as Smith playing LG rather than McGovern (and that's without taking into account potential upside of possibly being able to play LT).

We've had two years of picking the BPA 'name', sometimes you have to take the dog, especially when his rating is so close to the valued position players.

Maybe I'm just accepting the inevitable, but Jerry seems to show off the draft board every year for what seems like a decade

Can't say it has effected things positively or negatively

Interesting that it says that Tyler Smith is from Utah. The Utah player would be Devin Lloyd the linebacker. I wonder if they played a switcharoo and forgot to change it to Tulsa.

Bingo. Either they switched it for the presser or the organization is dumber than we thought. So much for taking the BPA. This usually doesn't work out. The last time we ignored the board, we ended up taking Taco over TJ Watt.

Much of the hand-wrenching and the harsh words that go with it will dwindle with the 1st victory this team gets!!!
Cowboys fans are kinda funny that way . . . :flagwave: The way the C'boys execs manage to smile through it all is precious!

So what if they had him ranked higher.

Doesn't mean they got it right.

Two different subjects here. Jerry's word should have been good enough, but he has been selling a polished turd for so long no one wants to hear it anymore, so I guess showing the world how we tend to rank players isn't that big of a deal. Just a little on the pathetic side.

If you had millions in the bank and unlimited job security, you could smile through a lot of bad decisions as well. ALL of the doubt and questioning is the logical result of decades of failure from the same men. Hell, they have the wrong school next to Tylers name.......which makes you wonder.

obviously a lot went wrong at that time, but I wouldn't compare the two situations or simplify the matter as not following the board

from what I remember, the scouts wanted Watt and the coaches...specifically Marinelli...wanted Charlton

I don't know if the board was leaked and if so, where Watt ranked in comparison to Charlton. I'd venture to guess Watt was higher since the scouts wanted him, but the grade could have been the same. And before you say it, yea, that would be a huge miscalculation in itself.

But the trust in the defensive staff is where this went wrong, TJ Watt in a 4-3 would be doing what Micah Parsons did for us last year. Same position, same role.

I know a lot of fans here kept focusing on his size and assumed he couldn't play DE. I didn't particularly buy it, but I remember pointing out Von Miller played in a 4-3 his first few years in Denver as well as Seattle had a history of using hybrid LB/DEs as SLB.

Unfortunately the coaching staff either really liked Charlton or lacked the creativity to properly utilize Watt

Jerry is balls-out going super cray cray and the only thing captaining his ship is his more and more deranged, yet delicate hubris.
he is turning into Al davis right before our eyes.

so maybe next year he will draft the fastest guy from the combine, just because he is fast, followed by taking a kicker the year after in the top 5 to solve our kicking problems once and for all.
