No clue about this type of surgery......will it impact his career?

• While we’re there, LSU’s Damone Clark was another player whose stock plummeted over the last few months for medical reasons. Doctors at the combine caught a back issue when he told them of problems he’d had with stingers, and it was determined that he should get disc fusion surgery. At that point, Clark was expected to be drafted on Friday night, somewhere in the second or third round.

But the back surgery may knock him out for his entire rookie season, and that was enough to knock him all the way down to the fifth round, where Dallas scooped him up.

Good use of one of those 5th round picks. Instead of using a 2nd round pick as usual.

I wonder if he was a target more so then Dean, that many wanted in the 2nd round. He too may miss time this season. Eagles used what a 3rd round pick. Which the usuals slobbered over.
I would have been ok with a 5th on Dean. So maybe they were waiting for either one to drop into the 5th. Good strategy if true.

i probably would have picked dean up slightly earlier than DC based on reports he wasn't going to miss time from my understanding. having said that, clark is good value at the 5th round even missing time. I think they had more comfort than other teams because it was our DR that looked at him.

A mere 5th round, late round pick on a guy with that kind of size/speed ratio, and productivity at a big school competition conference, i'll gladly take that low risk/high reward.

Not like it's a high 2nd round pick ala Jaylon Smith.

It was an excellent gamble in the 5th. Next season he will be our best LB. I can't call Parsons a LB. He's sooo much more.

Having him, Parsons, and Jabril Cox at LB could potentially be very nice.
Could be dare I say like the Seahawks lb core or Niners lb core years back.

I don’t think they should rush him back mid season. Throwing him into middle of the year when it’s going to be tougher games could hinder his progress from recovery.

Can't they just give him one of those oversized LVE neck rolls from the 70s and hope for the best? Just don't let him do any of those torqued Dak pregame dance moves.

From Roger Staubach to Sean Lee to, most recently, Jaylon Smith in 2016, who was taken in the No. 34 slot even though Dallas knew he wouldn't play in his first season, the Cowboys have taken calculated risks on guys in Clark's situation.
It would be safe to say, Dallas is ahead in taking draft risks! :muttley:

I will be surprised if hes out all year I've had two of these surgeries and more disks involved now I do understand the team may not
want him rushing back and he is playing football but it wouldn't surprise me by midseason if hes back
