If we want a short term stop gap WR there are still some solid options available in FA. No idea what they'd costs but dude's like Will Fuller and Jarvis Landry would be great 1 year rentals.

I imagine they'd be too expense though...bout 8/10+ mil a year.

So now that we have had the draft and brought in the following:
  • Rd 1. Tyler Smith (OG/OT)
  • Rd 2. Sam William (DE)
  • Rd 3. Jalan Tolbert (WR)
  • Rd 4. Jake Ferguson (TE)
  • Rd 5. Matt Waletzko (OT)
  • Rd 5. Damon Clarke (LB)
  • Rd 5. John Ridgeway (1T)
  • Rd 5. Daron Bland (CB)
  • Rd 6. Devin Harper (LB)

My opinion:
Offense:
  • OC: Biadasz wasn't terrible last season but wasn't good either. Farniok, while having traits is completely unproven. Not gonna lie, I wouldn't liked an early investment in the draft and would have gone Linderbaum round 1 with a OG 2nd round. But I don't know the draft or the roster like the FO and coaching staff so here's hoping.
  • TE: I was a bit disappoint to see Sprinkle as our FA investment at TE. Matching OJ Howard's 1 year 3.5m contract would have been something I was happier with. It's not breaking the bank and gives a more solid all round no.2 while Ferguson develops.
  • WR: With Gallup having an ACL and a 3rd round rookie developing, It would have been nice to have a more reliable option that can play as a no.2 receiver that could match Cedric Wilson's output for a year. Still possible with some talent left in FA.

Defense:
  • 1T: Bohanna should be better with a year in the system, and we now have 5th round pick Ridgeway to go with the smaller Watkins. To be honest I would have liked a splash in FA rather than Watkins. He was solid but I feel re-signing him is treading water when we needed to get better against the run.
  • LB: Parsons is obviously a beast but playing as a part-time edge rusher puts LVE again as at least a part-time starter. I would have liked someone in FA a bit more expensive on a short-term deal while draft picks develop.
Special Teams:
  • Kicker: It would be nice to have competition and if we had drafted our favorite option in the 6th round or traded in a 7th to avoid the UDFA race. We need someone.

If last year's anything to go by then the opposite's true.....the O-Line started well and only fell off with Tyron's injury and then forcing him back as Steele was forced to play (unsuccessfully) at LT and an unhit Smith was preferable to the alternative.

Yah, it was Smith injured, Collins poor play coming back and McGovern in for Williams. All 3 were downgrades and killed continuity.

i don't expect a big name signing.... maybe a very cheap, 1 year bargain rental vet.
maybe at LB, ..or FG kicker

Only vet punt returner i see FA list is Emmanuel Sanders, as he's 35 and i dunno what speed he has, or no longer has ..

Still have Oline concerns

Just considering our starters, I think for the most part we could be better than last year. We should see a second year improvement from last years rookies.

WR I think were good there. Tolbert should be good for anywhere between 500-800 yards receiving.
OT Good Ball and the rookie should compete for the swing tackle job.
OG Good Smith will have growing pains but will be an upgrade by the playoffs
OC TBD Biadasz has improved each year.
DT I don't see anyone giving us an interior pass rush but even if he doesn't make a tackle I think we've improved our run defense with Ridgeway
DE I think we're better than last year. Williams has potential to get more sacks than Gregory did last year.
LB Better than last year. Cox is an upgrade to Neal
CB Good
S Kearse and Hooker are good.
QB It is what it is
RB Good
Whose the quality back up guard

O-line without a doubt isn’t strong. Steel and Biadiasz are average starters. The rookie Smith is a big question mark needing to learn overall technique and a new position. Who is the LT if/when Tyron misses 3+ games?

LB outside of Micah is a big ?. While he looked better, LVE was still nowhere near where he was at his rookie level potential. He’s an average starter with limitations. Somehow Cox has been anointed a starter after 9 snaps and coming ACL surgery? Gifford and a rookie 5th rounder as the only depth?

We desperately need 1 of Gallimore/Osa/Hill to step up and be a difference maker. The D can’t take the next step forward without a player in the middle making plays imo. Wouldn’t bet on it happening…

We are going to be very reliant on Fowler and the rookie Williams to generate pressure

A rookie 1AA WR and James Washington behind Lamb until Gallup is fully healthy isn’t great by any measure. Even going forward there’s no guarantee that pair makes a reliable WR 3 next season.

We are very reliant on Hooker playing all of the snaps for a full season…little to no depth behind him at FS.

We can still sign a vet LB and S to solve depth issues…possibly even DT. But we are at the mercy of hope and prayer for the O-line and D-Line to be good units

Personally i see OSA as a real find. He faded last year from over use

The obvious answer is McGovern but Farniok has gotten some favorable mentions and can play guard so it should be a good competition. McGovern has added 15 pounds of muscle this offseason.

Where did you hear McGovern put on 15?

Sure, he had a tough game against SF. I'd argue some of thoes offsides calls were BS. Trent Williams has a slight twitch before the snao that was causing it and I think the announcers eeven called it out on live TV.

Bad games happen. Tyron and Zack both had rough outings against SF as well. Doesn't take away from the big picture and body or work.
Tyron and Zach’s bad games were due to their body not being able to hold up for a full season. You get their best the first half of the season and then are week to week about how they’ll perform after November.

Those are questions that you have. I have no concerns about Lamb at all. The guy is a #1 and he proved that last year no doubt for me. Gallup only has to recover. He is a high end #2.

Shultz is the #2 or #3 pass catcher in this offense. Washington is better than Wilson in my eyes. Then we have the rookie. Personally, I am not worried at all about it.

Now if Gallup can never recover, we are thin, but you can make decisions based on him not coming back.
When did Lamb prove he’s a #1? Because of big stats against bad teams? He’s never gone against a teams #1 CB like Jalen Ramsey for a whole game. Remember when Gallup had to do it against the Jets in 2019 when Cooper went down. Not everyone can be a #1.

Washington in college was by far better than Wilson but given their pro careers Wilson was a monster with the ball in his hands after the catch. Can’t say the same about Washington.

As for Tolbert who knows. Hope he can be another Gallup or Wilson.

The team is not “stacked” in terms of high end talent. We have about 4 guys that if they live up to it can be a #2. Jury is out to see if any can be a true #1.

A #1 is someone who you know is going to 75% of the time win the battle no matter who is across from him and rarely drops it. That’s not any receiver on this team yet.

In the teams history since the 90s since I’ve watched the only #1s they’ve had were Irvin, A. Bryant (for 1 year) Dez and TO. .

Galloway, Glenn and Rocket were nice players but not #1s when they got here. Miles Austin is borderline because of the great chemistry he had with Romo but his career flashed and as quick as he ascended he was gone. CD will prove himself this year which category he’s in.

So far CD has gotten a lot of yards on free plays when the other team is offsides and he runs go routes from the slot. The play in the Pro Bowl and vs Minn says he can do it at the highest level. We just haven’t seen it consistently without him losing focus. He had 2-3 drops alone in the season opener vs TB.

Being the top target does not make him a #1. Laurent Robinson was the top target one year and parlayed that into a nice contract with Jacksonville. That doesn’t make you a true #1
