If Smith can't play an upcoming game, the best thing to do, although I don't like it, would probably be Steele at LT, Martin to RT and Farinok at RG (assuming he doesn't win the C job).

Then again the purpose of a swing tackle is to not have to move the whole line around for one injury.

Steele was awful at LT but at this point I'd trust him more than either of the rookies or Ball there.
We still have a whole off-season. They won’t move multiple players. Think Steele will still fill the role, but can Ball become a spot starter this yr? If not, better sign a veteran who can

We get that......but is he ready to line up against some of the league's best edge rushers as Tyron's replacement ( when injured ) which Jerry seems to imply. That's the question......
The question is really is will the new Cowboys offensive line be good enough in the playoffs.

I think they go with who is on the roster. They will use OTA's, mini camps to determine how they proceed with reps in TC. They will evaluate for a few weeks, play a PS game or 2. Then go for a vet player if needed.
Really nothing to be concerned about at this time. The depth chart and positioning for some players need to be seen and will be in a state of change for a while longer.

Also at that point in time, players will be released and a decent one could be signed then, if needed. I am sure Will McClay has a list, even if a player is on another team, and he thinks there could be a possibility they get released.

Cowboys swing tackle is Steele. He will move to left tackle if Tyron Smith misses games.

Fleming was decent but the last two were quite shaky. Your line of thinking on that is probably exactly that of the team at this point.

I'm not at all against playing the kids btw. I felt the same about Garrett. Donovan Wilson should have been on the field much sooner... and that's far from the only example.

OL is a little different IMO because of protecting the QB and the season is way over if Dak is out.

But they had the balls to start UDFA Steele as a rookie, so.......all in all, I doubt a vet is brought in.

I would evaluate the kids in OTA's and TC and if they seem too raw I sign someone.

Ball is your swing RT.

Smith kicks to LT.

Waletzko backs up if they go down.

They reported they are out on an older swing tackle. Cam Erving could be available as the Panthers drafted Ickey and have Moton at RT

understand guys, we are likely rolling with our guys..barring injury or a massive set back, we aint signing anyone of note. I think Stevie has shown us that. "We like our guys" is very much alive and well. Ball will be given every chance to be handed the swing tackle gig. Then Waletsko. Barring a snafu, We will stand still.

Not sure if there's enough roster space for Waletzko, Ball, Alarcon and McGovern.

That also doesn't account for UDFA centers everyone seems enamored with.

At this point I'd guess that Waletzko is redshirted so to speak, similar to Ball last year.

The rules allow teams to keep more offensive linemen these days. So some teams like the Dallas Cowboys are trying to get away from using swing tackles. Because the two different positions call for two different techniques. Keeping one guy on one side, so he can master those techniques is logical. Because of the extra offensive linemen.

This makes me nervous.........

Yeah I don't like that idea of Tyree Smith starting at LT at the moment either. You can hide some technique issues at guard, but against the other teams best pass rusher is a different story that's tough. Build the guys confidence on the interior then see how he develops. There are some solid options out there amongst some veterans if they're interested in a backup role.

Agree 1000%..........if you're going to him out there, you better darn sure he's ready. Edge rushers will show no mercy.....see Chaz Green (lol)

Reading Bob Hayes's depth chart thread, I'm wondering who's the swing tackle or do we even have one. Remmers can backup G and T, which could be helpful when Tyron starts missing games and we have shuffle or need a legit replacement. He's should also come cheap........

T MIKE REMMERS, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Remmers was brought back to Kansas City to serve as the swing tackle after lining up all over the Chiefs offensive line during the 2020 playoffs, and he was his usual reliable self in two spot-starts at right tackle in Weeks 6-7 before a nagging knee injury ended his season. Remmers has never earned a pass-blocking grade below 60.0 over nine seasons and 3,700 pass-blocking snaps. He should continue to draw interest as a swing tackle if his health recovers.

Strengths:
-Experience at both tackle positions and guard
-One of the better run-blocking grades on gap runs since 2015

Weaknesses:
-Below average pass-blocker on true pass sets
-Low percentage of positively graded plays in the running game

Scheme Fit/Role:
SWING TACKLE: Remmers could be a low-end starter at tackle, but any team that has him as their No. 6 offensive lineman is feeling good up front. He can play either tackle position or guard in a pinch, and he's performed reasonably throughout his career.

Recent Injury History:
In 2020, Remmers missed time due to a back injury, and he landed on injured reserve with a knee injury in 2021.

Contract Projection: One year, $2.75 million, $2 million total guaranteed

Bottom Line:
Remmers is a class swing tackle who can produce at a reasonable level at either tackle or guard. We've seen him overwhelmed by elite talent at times throughout his career, and he needs some help in pass protection, but he's as good as it gets as a No. 6 offensive lineman.
Bring him in for a look see...

OK........I would hope they are NOT thinking of using Tyler Smith ( LT ) too soon. We DO NOT wanna see this kid get Chaz green before his career even gets started.....you're playing with his confidence.

Why not sign a guy like Remmers and keep everything nice and clean (lol).......hell, if you believe PFF, he'll only cost you a couple of millions or so.

This kid is too strong to play like Chaz Green.

I had forgotten, so I had to do some searching. Sadly, one of the funniest football YouTube videos ever made is titled Chaz Green & Byron Bell Give Up 6 Sacks to Adrian Clayborn.

I'm not sure that matters with such poor techniques............

Jerry was saying, we don't need a swing tackle now, but Stephen is running the day to day. Think they do, indeed, need to sign a veteran swing as Tyron is always hurt and Steele really struggled on the left side. Could Ball factor in? Yes, but let him compete for the role, if he beats out the veteran, release him.

A little dose of reality for you.

Stephen doesn't make a single decision for the team. Not one. If Jerry says no to a vet swing tackle then it's not happening.
