Will Zeke ever eclipse 1000 yards again?

You know back in the day a rusher reaching 1000 yards was a really big deal. Some will argue that they rushed more and passed less in days gone by and that is true. However the 1000 yard standard was set way back when the NFL played a 12 game season. Then it went to 14; then 16; and now it is up to 17. I think the standard should be at least 1200 yards per season now.

If the knee injury is a legit excuse of why he went from productive to semi-pro caliber why wouldn't they rest him so he could return to being productive?
They kept the severity of it quiet until the season was over. They said it wasn't bad enough to get surgery, so why wouldn't you rest him?
Then, you don't just dump the carries onto Pollard.

Help me understand.

Great question. One we can only speculate based on what was said and how the events unfolded.

Initially MM wanted to rest him but Zeke said he could play. And Jethro supported Zeke.

Pollard then getting hurt didn’t help either.

Not one bit.

The only reason Zeke played from weeks 7-18 was just so he could get over 1000 for the season. Jerry will order MM and Kellen to feed him until he pukes, to the detriment of the team.

I still think Zeke has some good football in him, his games weeks 1-6 were the best we've seen from him in years. But he REALLY needed to rest that knee, because he just wasn't an NFL-caliber RB trying to play through it.

The real bar is how many 100 yard games he’ll have. Our record is like 90% winning percentage in his career when he rushes over a 100 yards. We were 2-0 on both of his 100 yard games last year.
I’m not sure he will get the carry’s to get many
He avg about 14 carry’s a game last year
I expect Pollard to get a few more this year
100 yards rushing is huge. In order to get the carry’s the run game has to be working. If the run game is working so is the play action which helps the WR get open
The run game is very important to this offense
When it’s working then everything works

In answering the question. Quite possible. Didn't he do it last year on 1 leg?

Now that it's a 17 game season, gaining 60 yds/gm gets it done. Nothing too write home about.

Getting a 1000 now these days might be common regardless of the passing mentality and concept.

For the Cowboys, a strong running is still the way to go and a must.

Zeke will bank 1100 yards this year on 280 carries. Pollard will get 800 on 140 carries.

I think they'll use Zeke up this year based on not bringing him back next year. (This could change if he averages 5+ ypc)

Yeah, we're gonna rush heavy early on in the season. Zeke will also be on the field most passing plays. I'm sure y'all watched Pollard's lack of ability or pure distaste for pass blocking rushing 240 pound LB'ers.

Barely got there last season. Missed the year before. Looks pretty shot at 26 to me. Big Mac and Moore prefer to sling it. I say he is done as a 1000 rusher in Dallas. Thoughts?
50 x 17= 850......

And I bet he misses a few games this year....will probably play the first 5 or 6...come up lame....then rest until Thanksgiving...then make a playoff push...rest the final couple of weeks...playoffs...1 and done...Cowboy career over.

Don't care.

Why should anybody be setting personal goals for any player? I would gladly settle for a Timmy Smith 1987 season. That's 126 yards rushing in the regular season........342 yards in the postseason including 204 yards in the Super Bowl.

Once a season starts, all talk about salary should cease. It's just distracting.

I think a lot of fans have lost focus on the ultimate goal. No, it's not a fantasy league championship.

This coming season, as long as the Cowboys are winning games, I would be happy if Zeke gets 700 rushing, 500 receiving, doesn't fumble, turns those 3rd and 1's into 1st and tens, blocks great when called upon to do so......and stays home at night.

yes he can top 1000 yds, and he can even be a pro bowl back again

1) has to stay healthy which he has been for most of his career- and he also guts it out and plays hurt too.
2) he has to have solid blockers on a consistent basis - and they have to hold their blocks for his power oriented runs nowadays.
3) he has to have creative coaches that know how to scheme best for his skill set. If it's more all Kellen and no McCarthy, then forget it..

He could definitely eclipse 1000 yards again in a 17 game season. A 1000 yard season isn’t that big a deal anymore. That was the benchmark for 12 and 14 games seasons.

Easily but it all depends on the OL. He still has the talent to do it but not on his own.

If he's used as a feature back and stays healthy, sure.

1000 yard seasons and or making the playoffs don't mean that much anymore. Once you start adding games to the season and let almost half the league make the playoffs, it becomes much easier to do.

Maybe back when we had 14 game seasons both were more of an accomplishment worth noting.
