The problem is the "no trade clause", Dak's agent fleeced Jerry with... Jerry basically surrendered any leverage he had with this average QB. It may be his worst decision in GM history.

I'd ride with Dak all the way to 2-15 and draft the next great hope.

This will be Prescott's final season where he will continue to have the faith and support of the FO and esp the Fans!
Can't hide the "Stink" forever you know........

Dak's contract makes him immovable, he will play out play out the next three years and be an UFA in 2025.

2022 .............$108 million in dead money if released.
2023 .............$89 million in dead money if released.
2024 .............$40 million in dead money if released.

2025.............. Dak is an UFA and cannot be tagged. (2025 and 2026 are VOID years)

Unless he agrees to a trade, to a team he'd want to go to. But why would he do that? He's the QB here for the foreseeable future.

Not really…it’s uncomfortable but not unheard for a quarterback and something the Cowboys can consider if his form creators. The price for the low 20m cap hits in 2021 and 2022 is that 40m of cap damage is shifted to future years.

So if we cut him post June 1st 2024 we still have to pay that 40m but it’d be an 18m cap hit in 2024 and 22m in 2025. Essentially if Dak isn’t worthy of a starting QB who earninng a 29m base salary we can and should cut him post June 1st 2024.

The no trade/franchise clause does kill any leverage and the potential of getting draft picks though which makes it a pretty horrible deal IMO.

The likely strategy being tank 2024, clear cap space and get a rookie QB in the top 5 of the 2025 draft.

A Drew Bledsoe/Tom Brady scenario would bench him i.e. a bad injury with the repllacement being too good to sit on the bench.

But this is a scenario I dont want to happen - dont want to see anyone getting hurt.

Also, I dont think we've a potential Brady on the roster.

This is purely hypothetical. And for us, we think, at least, worst case scenario.

I think there could be some discussion about it if the Cowboys happen to start 0-3.

But what kind of start would it take for the Cowboys to bench Dakota?

Do you think it's possible that he loses three games in a row, to start, and then remains a starter?

Would never happen on a Jerry team. He doesn't pay big money for his players to sit on the bench.

Only an injury takes him out . Regardless the start or performance Jethro isn’t benching his 40 million dollar QB.

..the odds are against you. Dak never starts off bad, on contrary he comes out guns blazing. Its middle of season or near last leg that he cools down.

And replace him with who. One of those we never heard of they're bringing in for a tryout this week?

I don't think losses matter if the goal is to get Dak benched. What matters is how Dak plays. Frankly, as a Cowboy, he has never strung together three games in a row bad enough to get himself benched. I don't see it ever happening but I guess there is a first time for everything.
