And not one person talking about it has any idea what Jerry is thinking
Next year getting Payton would not be a smart move to me because of the costs
A couple years that will change
I also think Quinn stayed for a reason

Jerry didn’t help the situation by saying early in the off-season that Mike knows he won’t be coaching the Cowboys forever. A lot was read into that comment and it really got the Sean Payton rumors swirling.

Personal feelings aside, why would a hall of fame coach, who isn't desperate for a buck, want to work for Jerry?

Sean Payton is an elite coach until he becomes cowboys head coach and all of a sudden the media will bring up he only won 1 superbowl with a HOF QB and had multiple losing seasons in a row and didnt get the most out of his QB

Ah yes go from one HC that has been criticized throughout his career for not winning more Super Bowls with a legendary QB to another. Real step up there.

The only reason Payton has a better reputation is because 1. He wasn't fired (he was on the hot seat for 3-4 years in New Orleans) 2. Because he didn't have a diva QB who throws everyone under the bus

Payton is not a huge step up from McCarthy.

NO had a pretty damn good off season without SP...just because he was a good coach in the franchise doesnt mean he can deliver under the structure of this one.

I dunno. Ultimate results don't always tell the true tale.

If an obvious PI call goes the right way, and Scott Norwood can make a fairly routine kick, Payton would likely have twice the SB wins as his mentor.

I understand that the numbers between MM and Payton are similar, but I think Payton is a better overall football coach and would command more respect than MM.

I've never heard Drew Brees say that Payton has a low football IQ. That's certainly part of it for me.

"If things were different in the manner I want them to be Payton would be better."

"Mike McCarthy is currently the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, but ESPN's Marcus Spears believes that could change by next year. That's because he thinks Jerry Jones is eyeing Sean Payton.

"Have we not paid attention to Jerry Jones for a long time? When Wade Phillips was there, Jerry Jones wanted and was grooming Jason Garrett to be the head coach," Spears said on NFL Live. "He is waiting for Sean Payton to say I want to come to Dallas, and they're going to make it happen and give the New Orleans Saints what they need.""

Payton can win under better managerial and strategic staff at 10 other places.
He's already been to the Cowboys, under Fat Boy Parcells and football genius. He's done that and done with dat.

Payton wants his glory but with sanity intact.

So, bland men with high hopes, don't hold out for Payton.
What we'll likely get is the wide-eyed Quinn (he'll do anything for Jerry!) or a lame retread such as in the Garrett mold.

Payton is a lot smarter than to be Jerry's lap dog.

I don't really see the comparison between Jerry grooming an inexperienced Garrett 15 years ago, and the possibility of hiring a long time successful head coach now.

In any case, I'm far from convinced Payton would want to work for Jerry where he won't have the control he would likely want. Hell, it's not even certain Payton will want to continue coaching at all. He doesn't need the money and could get a TV gig pretty easily

Booger going to give up 1st round picks and pay him 10M X at least 6 years, maybe the Gruden deal 10M X 10 years? Is he going to give up his HC impersonations with the media and let Payton run the football team and locker room?

And those of you who think Payton is great, what did he do without Brees and how did he leave NO?

I thought they were pretty good last year considering they didn't have a QB for most of the season.

Resumes the same on paper, but watch the games. Excluding the early part of Mike’s career, his teams have not been buttoned up and schematically he grew stale. He doesn’t even run his own offense anymore that’s how outdated his schematics are. Dude literally said he doesn’t believe in motion lol.

Sean Payton’s teams are much more competitive and physical consistently. Schematically no one has ever even insinuated that Payton’s schemes are easy to defend. It’s regarded as one of the best systems in the league.

Both have their warts, but you can’t tell me you watch both guys on the sideline and both teams and feel like they are the same coach. No way.

Also, Sean Payton makes roster decisions and has been an integral part of the Saints roster building. Mike has never and will never do any of that, he’s said so himself.

One guy is a football maniac who studies the game religiously and one guy is a passive walk around HC. You can see the Parcells influence in Payton with his toughness and fiery personality. Mike’s laid back jokey and sometimes clueless demeanor is not a good match for this organization.
Sean Payton is stale too and trust I watch my fair share of Saints games and he’s committ some of the dumbest football sins you’ll see. Stupid challenges, stupid play calls on 4th down that would make Kellen Moore blush. He’s living off his time with Brees and his SB run.

Man, this would really make my day. Not because I don't like McCarthy, I really do. Great coach. It's just that Payton is so much better. One of the best today.
Sorry man…ain’t gonna happen. Sean Payton is a real NFL HC who would be unwilling to ride in the backseat of this car with Jerry driving and Giggles riding shotgun. Unless JJ and SJ are willing to make major changes in how they run this thing…no Sean Payton or any other top shelf NFL HC who expects to run their locker room and other things real HCs do.
