- Lets be realistic about the remaining offseason, as we’re not gonna chase high heralded FA names such as Bulaga, Jason Paul, etc.
and we know they definitely will not come cheap the closer it gets to camp.

- And I doubt we have near as many noted vet FAs as per 2020. (Griffin, Aldon, McCoy, Worley, etc)

- We still really need a formidable punt returner – are we gonna still keep using (over-using) our feature lead WR as the primary punt returner ?
Who are the other options as PR ?.. Diggs ? …Lewis ?
Don't be surprised if WR/PR Jamison Crowder or Emanuel Sanders could be cheap vet i year rentals to be slot/PR
and forget it Beasley returning - (too much in house issues)

- Cowboys seem very content with starter Tyler Biasdaz – and they like Farniok as a utility backup at C/OG guy.

- Plan seems clearly for Cox, Gifford to represent LB depth.- Club hopes no-name rookie LBs to surprisingly stick (Harper, Hansford, Jackson, etc)
I think the opposite, remember when we signed Griffen late, he took a steep pay reduction what he was asking for. Longer they are out there, their prices will start to fall. Think Farniok can actually compete against Biad to become the starter. I don't see another receiver being signed, they already have 5 who are probably roster locks. Think they can found a returner somewhere on this roster.

the big difference is when we sought out those bargain based noted vet FAs, the Cowboys were counted on them to help lead our defense.
Griffen was utter lost and useless, so much that he was traded in the middle of the season,

Aldon Smith totally fumed out after the big Seattle game, and CB Worley got toasted burnt and DT McCoy blew out his quad in 2nd day of camp.

i wouldn't think Stephen would devise such a plan with FA vets this time around.

Such as who else ? Generally your punt returners are your WRs.

How many WRs did we keep on last year in 2021 ?
This year ?
1 Lamb
2 Gallup
3 Tolbert
4 Washington
5 N. Brown ?
6 ?

Unless he is totally much improved and effective displaying player vs 2021, i am not for getting project Simi Fehoko making this 53 roster for doing nuthin'
Practice Squad this time around.

We'll see if Drummond, Vashar or Brandon Smith make a case for 6th WR if they keep that many. And the way Gallup frequently gets hurt, we should have
a plentiful WR number ready, imo

Usually returners are backup backs, receivers or defensive backs. Diggs was actually our backup punt returner last season. Think Lewis would be a candidate. They may or may not keep 6 receivers based on the other roster spots. I agree, Fehoko has to earn his spot, but the top 5 appear safe.

I think not so much as starters, but more depth is needed at a few spots. Linebacker we discussed, veteran swing tackle, Free Safety, Guard and a kicker.

I agree, would feel better with a veteran swing. Think they envision Steele filling that role again and just replacing him at Right Tackle if Tyron went down.
It seems that’s the plan but risky since we don’t really have an experienced RT to fill in either

Heres a thought and I always wonder why teams dont do this more. Why not take the full 25 million and put it towards paying off Dak's salary? Change the structure so he counts 50 million this year and get it over with. Its not like were winning it all this year anyway. Then you have have an advantage going forward.

Intriguing thought....would you also trade draft picks in that year for the next so you could stock up on rookie deals and have max dollars for a few key vet?

Or why not take down years or rebuilding years and stock up on cap space you can carry over? Or sign your young QB and get 70 million of it over in the first year. Things like that.

I like what Philly is doing. Trading a first this year for a first and a 2nd or first and a 3rd next year. People are always willing to trade extra to get a pick this year.

Take a look at NFL leading punt returners and you'll see how many are WRs vs the DBs and RBs you're referring to.
I did mentioned Diggs and Lewis, as options, (though i do not ever want to see Lewis as a KO returner) but i'm not for placing a a load on Diggs as both full time starting role and primary punt returner.

Jones boys like to hope a lot on cheap players.

Yeah, if you could do that and have 2 high firsts and seconds plus a minimal cap on a very good qb it would buy you a 2 to 3 year window where you could be very free to spend on fa.

Fun to hypothesize

We are aware the Cowboys have cap space to be players in the post draft fa and will be getting even more money next month when Collins comes off the books. How would you finish the offseason?

LB-Hightower, Barr ,Hitchens
Edge-JPP, Clowney, Dunlap
DT-Hicks, Goldman, Suh, Brandon Williams, Livan Joseph
FS-Gipson, Tartt
G-Erik Flowers
T-Soldier, Duane Brown, Bulaga
C-Tretter
Good post. For me it’s pretty obvious. Tretter and Hitchens. They need a potential upgrade at C and a vet LB that is more of an assignment following thumper. I think those would be great pick ups. I am also of the mind that Ball is going to be good. This is based on nothing at all but my working theory that he is impressing someone so they cut Collins.

We know Pollard is still our kick returner, we just need a punt returner to replace Lamb with. There should be a backup receiver or defensive back whom will be able to win that job. Backups will need special teams abilities to be active on game day, especially ones without a role within the regular offense/defense.

With so many numbers at the Center position, I wonder if they bring in a veteran to compete. Maybe after they see what they got, but not before camp.

I thought TB was going to be good. He has been awful. A total statue out there plus he isn’t as stout as reported. I would like to see a vet come in and push him.
