This time of year, I buy it all!
I guess if I needed to, I would prefer to buy. I am OK with the unknown and ever since that 2014 season when I predicted 4-12 and they reversed that, I have questioned if I even know what I think I know.

The beauty of it is it doesn't matter what I buy, know or think, what's going to happen is going to happen.

And Payton was last with the Cowboys under Parcells, only the second time Booger was hands off the team.

Booger hired McC because he needed a job and he knew he could push him around.

Besides that, going to pay him 10M a year and give up picks? Try building this team without 1st round picks for a couple of years with RG, LT, RB and possibly WR a need in the next couple of years.
Yeah I think the Sean Payton talk is another sales ploy designed to keep fans hopeful and engaged with the future. If we had beaten the niners last Jan in the playoffs, that talk would not have been that loud if at all.

I buy that we can win at-least 8 games. I am not buying any other hype, it's all talk.

My greatest concern is OL.

Doesn’t appear we’ve upgraded . And if Smith who hasn’t played a full season in years is hurt any and god forbid Martin is out at all , this season could be over early without adequate protection for our QB and lanes for our RB’s.

That’s the strength of this team. If that has been mismanaged and our offense struggles as a result we are reduced to a .500 team at best.

Which doesn’t even take into consideration some of my other concerns on defense.

Buying or not buying?

Every year starting post draft and FA period, the sales job begins. We as Cowboys fans are given dozens and dozens of talking points about our favorite team and how good they will be this upcoming year. One of the greatest salesmen in sports history is our owner. His sales pitch has already begun and it will continue like hot lava until the season ends.

So what ideas are you buying and what ideas are you not buying about the Cowboys going into this upcoming 2022 season?

CURRENT/PROBABLE TEAM SALES POINTS for 2022 (Do you buy or not?)

  1. With the addition of Tyler Smith at LG, the OL will be better. (Buy or Not Buy). BUY. Hard to be worse than Williams last year.
  2. Zeke will be back to form after his knee has healed this off-season. (Buy or not). Buy. He will be better than he was last year. Rookie Zeke Form? Not so much.
  3. Tyron Smith will play all 17 games. (Buy or not). Not buying. The smart money is betting against that.
  4. Tony Pollard will have a larger role in this year’s offense. (Buy or not). Buy. I think that they will be forced to. They have also realized they have been under utilizing him. Additionally, they will use him up since it’s the last year of his rookie deal. They will also be hoping for a juicy comp pick out of his departure. Expect a big year out of Pollard.
  5. Our new WR corps will be better than last year’s group. (Buy or not). Buy. I don’t think Amari was meant ally in the game.
  6. Kellen Moore has learned a lot more about how to diversify our attack and to better utilize our talent. (Buy or not). I’m not buying this one. Moore didn’t adapt very well last year. We could be better but if we are better it will be because McCarthy steps in and takes over to some degree.
  7. Mike McCarthy will be much more involved with the offense this year. (Buy or not). Buy. He will because he will have to be. If not he probably will lose his job with the Cowboys and I don’t think he will let that happen.
  8. Mike McCarthy will be much better with clock management this year. (Buy or not). Not Buying.
  9. Dak will be more comfortable running the ball in spots this year. (Buy or not). I will believe that when I see it. Not buying.
  10. Micah Parsons will be even better than last year. (Buy or not). Undecided. He won’t surprise people this year so it will be harder, but with a sophomore bump he could be even better. Ok. I guess I’ll buy.
  11. Trayvon Diggs will have an even better year in coverage than last year. (Buy or not). Not buying. I think we should have traded Diggs while he was at this highest value in the offseason prior to the draft.
  12. Sam (De) Williams will have an immediate impact in the pass rush. (Buy or not). Buy. Parsons will take up a lot of attention took.
  13. The Cowboys defense will be better against the run this year. (Buy or not). Buy. I think the rookie from Arkansas will help. Don’t rule out another pick up at the final cut down to 53 as well. Another year in Quinn’s system will also help.
  14. The Cowboys are the most talented team in the NFCE. (Buy or not). Probably so. I’m buying this.
  15. The Cowboys will repeat as NFCE champs for the first time in 26 years. (Buy or not). Buy. Commanders and Giants probably don’t have a shot. Eagles will be strongest competition and I don’t think Hurts is “there” yet as a player.
  16. The Cowboys will make the playoffs in back to back years for the first time in 15 seasons. (Buy or not). Buy
  17. The Cowboys defense will match or exceed the number of turnovers they created in 2021. (Buy or not). Not buying. They had some really good luck last year.
Here’s my answers: I’m Buying: #4, #9, #10, #13, 14 and maybe 16. Not buying the rest.
So share what your answers are. Which ones are you buying and which ones are you not buying?

I'm going to make what will probably be an unpopular comparison here.

The 2008 Cowboys were a star-studded group that was supposed to win it all and they cratered. In 2009 they dumped a lot of "name" players and nobody expected them to do squat; yet they won 11 games and ended a long playoff drought by routing the Eagles in the wild card round.

The 2022 Cowboys could be another example of addition via subtraction. Only time will tell.

Yeah, the one statement that wasn’t listed as buy or not is “This team is not as talented as last year’s team”. I’m not buying that.

Amari leaving looks like, on paper, a loss of talent. Overall I’m giving the team a +1 on that one. Losing Williams I’m giving them a +1. On Randy Gregory’s departure they get a +1.

I think the team reached a little in the draft but they added to the OL (+1), added a pass rusher in a pass rusher deep draft (+1) added what some say is another Gallup level player, added a run stuffer in the middle (+2) and took a chance on an injury player in the 5th instead of the second.

I think the Cowboys reached some, which I don’t really like, but this team can easily be better than last year based on Ridgeway alone. That’s a player than can add a W in the win column if he pans out.

I bought 4 of the 17.

How many do you think ol' Jerry is buying? :muttley:
Jerry is not buying, he is always selling. Ice to the Eskimos and marginal football to us the unwashed fans!

I'm not buying any hype about our offense. I think it will be average at best. I'm all in on any hype about the D.
So the offense will be bad to average? Lol

And why is that? Because of no cooper?

Here's an 18th important point to add to your list -
The Cowboys will be better disciplined and focused to significantly reduce penalties committed during last season.
2021: Team penalties___ Cowboys had 127 = 32nd \last in the league (Raiders were 31st with 124)
Yardage lost to penalties ___Cowboys had 1103 = 31st in the league (Raiders 32nd \last with 1104)

Just a feeling based on last year. Besides the Patriots, and if you want to count week 1 against the Bucs, this team struggles to score against any team with a pulse. We destroy the bums of the league, but get out to slow starts, or can barely score at all against teams that aren't garbage.

We have the players. I can't pinpoint the problem.

Problem is simple…..the oline. If the oline is improved our offense will flourish. If not, we will be inconsistent. But either way it will be in the top half of the league no question.

I hope you're right. We didn't seem to have this problem in 2016 when they were good.

I agree with all your choices for “buy”, but a couple more I’ve got a “maybe”. I think the D will be better overall, especially against the run, but fewer INTs.

Not sure Elon Musk would buy much with this Cowboys team.
