Rate the last movie you saw

My niece and her husband mentioned they had seen the "Out Of Towners", the remake of the Neil Simon masterpiece, and they thought it was dumb. I told them to watch the original and while they're at it, watch the original "Pink Panther" instead of that lame, another Steve Martin remake, and that I would send them to them.

A week later I got a call from her and she was amazed at the difference, they had watched the "Pink Panther" twice. Why any fool attempted to remake a Neil Simon movie with Jack Lemmon or the definitive Peter Sellers film is beyond me. They defined the characters and a remake is an insult.

Nothing against Steve Martin, it would be the same if some moron tried a remake of "The Jerk".

Another example is "The Longest Yard" remake what a load of crap.

Very basic plot. Boys father is killed boy pledges revenge.
Acting is good.
Filming is good.
It's just missing something thought it would have much more action and a better script just a let down.

"Evil Dead" (2013)

I had watched this remake several years ago and came away unimpressed, so I gave it another shot tonight.

Still not impressed.

Sometimes these remakes simply go out of their way to take the original story (which was usually quite simple) and turn it into something complicated (I'm looking at you "The Fog" remake).

Well they did that very thing with this remake.

The violence and special effects were good!

The story needed a lot of help.

"Hell Fest" (2018)

It's not often you come across a slasher-flick with an interesting story, decent acting and inventive kills.

A decent film.

Among the cast is horror-film icon Tony Todd.

If you're in the mood for a good slasher-flick, you could do far worse than "Hell Fest".

Burt Reynolds was perfect for the role of Paul Crewe, Adam Sandler not so much. What a horrible remake.

I had great anticipation for this film, especially after the events of Spiderman: No Way Home. I enjoyed the movie overall, but the film didn't meet my expectations.

- I didn't find the character America Chavez the least bit interesting and won't mind if I don't see her show up again.

- The "lost love" angle the movie focused on with Rachel McAdams seemed like a shoe-horned plot device. I know What If...? focused on it, but I consider those one-offs. I found this boring.

- Wanda as the surprise villain instead of Monster X was intriguing, but strangely timed as mentioned in previous posts. Anyway, I'm sure she'll return if they ever get around to House of M after introducing mutants.

- I would have much rather seen more Dr Stranges from different multiverses be the main conflict (more than the tiny bit they tossed in there)

- Illuminati sure did come off as weak in their first introduction, getting their butt handed to them.

- More Baron Mordo scenes please, especially after the end credits of DS1

- I think Dr Strange may be better as a cameo rather than a headlining hero.

- I still had a good time watching it

Yeah, I agree with a lot of points. The acting was pretty bad in this.

The first dream sequence thing really set the tone of the film,

which was bad. I liked the first Dr. Strange movie, but this felt too much like someone told Sam Raimi to just take a bunch of Evil Dead and Army of Darkness tripe and throw it into the MCU.

Saw Old on HBOMAX. Just came out. M. Night Shamaylan (spell?) movie and sort of an attempt to get back to his twist endings. Definitely more of a “The Village” than a “The Sixth Sense.” I watched it though. Sort of a sad movie though with its theme of aging.

Firestarter - Ugh. It's been decades since I saw the original, so I don't remember much at all about it. I can't imagine this was possibly an improvememt. It's just bad. Lackluster story. Lackluster performances. Lackluster effects. And an ending that fails to spark any interest.

I guess the music was okay.

Finally got around to Spiderman No way Home.

Good stuff, loved that they got the original casts from the Toby/Garfield movies. The de-aging on Goblin and Doc Ock was great.
Didn't expect the storyline with May when it happened, but understood how they used it to build on his development.

Seeing all 3 spidermans was great and wish we had more footage of those 3. So, when the villains go back they go back in time before their deaths? and will the younger spidermans know that those villains are cured? It's just a movie and plot holes are to be expected on complicated timelines but sort of wish we could get a movie in the other spiderman universes now.

Probably a 8 out of 10 for me.

Watched "Operation Mincemeat" on Netflix last night. If you are thinking this is a horror/gorefest movie you would be wrong. It is actually the true story of a great deception the allies pulled off during World War II to convince the Germans they allies would invade Greece and not Sicily, which was the obvious military strategy. I bet most people have watch the history channel and are aware of the story - dead body washes up on the shores of Spain with documents, etc. This movie is a deeper dive, or at least a dramatic presentation of what may have actually happened to pull the deception off.

An interesting fact about Operation Mincemeat the real plot to fool the Germans - it is believed Ian Flemming, the author of the James Bond novels actually devised the plot. Flemming worked in British military intelligence during the war. He is a character in the movie which was taken from a book written by one of the British intelligence officers who participated in devising and executing the deception.

Good cast with Colin Firth (Kingsman), Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), Jason Isaacs (lots of stuff including Star Trek Discovery) and Kelly McDonald (Boardwalk Empire).

I thought this movie could have been better considering the story itself, especially with that cast, but it was still pretty good. I give it a 6.5 our of 10.

This movie is at least the 2nd or 3rd theatrical production of this story I am aware of.

Saw it on the plane today, hadn’t seen it in a long time.

Movie still cracks me up, a classic comedy.

Agree with your rating because they seemed to spend more time on the relationships than the actual deception.

I thought the same thing but I was thinking that they spent time on the personal stories of the individuals becaue the story itself has been told so many times before. Also, it seems to be a thing now.

Some movies just don't need to be remade because the original roles were defined by the actors that played them, like Jaws, you could never replace any of those characters, especially Robert Shaw's character imo, and I think one of the worst things they did was make The Honeymooners into a movie

I saw Doctor Strange 2: Madness Multiverse; ..i really liked it .
it really gets rolling from the very beginning second and keeps it up with a very good pace.
Utterly loaded with visual CGI special effects and action sequences .!

- The final chase scenes near the end had me thinking more like the Terminator mode ... or even female Terminator- Rise of the Machines..lol

- The American Chavez character role felt forced and unnecessary- like it was from an off brand Sy-Fy channel or something , but maybe studio wanted to be sure
to stay close to comic script. i never got into intrigue with her.
- Very Interesting idea of whom the main villain was to be.. it worked out a differently ..and brilliantly.
- Biggest key and challenge was trying to keep with all details and understandings of the portals, dimensions, books, planes of travels, dream-walks, astral characters, etc.

On a scale of 1 to 10,.. i'd give Dr. Strange 2 an 8.0

You are certainly not alone. I chalk it up to the character being the McGuffin and there simply because of her power to jump between the Multiverse. Unless that power is needed again, I don’t expect to see much of this character.

I was both surprised and disappointed that the went ‘full villain’ with Wanda. It now paints WandaVision as the beginning of an inevitable descent into ‘Madness’. And the character is now finished, at least as a hero, and that’s always sad to see.
