It takes a special charisma, one the camera loves.......either you have or you don't.
Respectfully disagree with the "charisma" perspective regarding the TV sports media positions...especially in today's sports world.
IMO...it's more to do with being knowledgeable, adept, and engaging in the role(s) one is placed in.
Applies to both former athletes and career reporters & journalists - women and men.

Just read he had shoulder surgery in Feb. My guess he's just putting the right teams on notice if they lose their starting QB for the year.

I'll give you 3 names........Joe Montana, Emmitt Smith, and Jason Witten. I'm pretty sure no one will question their knowledge of the game but that was not enough to translate a successful TV career.

Charisma- or lack thereof- had nothing to do with those three not being successful in front of the camera.

Montana was just a fish out of water -- totally not suited for a role on a live broadcast. (Commercials are a different story.)

Emmitt was willing - but he lacked the speaking acumen. (I cringed when viewing and listening to him.)

Witten prepared poorly, and was self-conscious - lethal combination.

not being the man anymore is a tough pill to swallow. Brady lasted 5 weeks before his ego couldn't take it anymore.

Look at Brady, his ego lasted barely over a month before he couldn't take it anymore.

He sucked as a commentator. So, he's pulling a Witten and saving face by saying he's leaving to pursue a return to football.

I can’t help but imagine how much hate he would’ve gotten if he had played in Dallas!

Outside of that Super Bowl run, dude always came up short in the playoffs. He would’ve gotten butchered by the media if he had a star on his helmet
