This currently shows we have a little under $14 million in cap space.
So after June 1st we will have the $10 million from releasing Collins, and puts us at just under $24 million?

For those asking why not signing any other vet players, maybe they are waiting for the extra cap space to possibly do more with that extra amount.

I don't see anything happening until after the OTA's and mini camps anyway. But curious what will be the cap number, in case I am not looking at this correctly.

Cowboys are committed to the youth movement and playing the young guys. Who are they going to sign? Anyone they sign is going to sit in the way of a draft pick playing.

Now if some guy like Ridgeway is getting pushed around in OTA's and camps, then you have to sign someone.

rolling it over for diggs, then lamb I believe is the sentiment here... keep in mind we have an out in Dak's contract in 2024 with a 40M hit, but I believe they will let him play it out before they revisit the QB position again... this team is too comfortable staying status quo.

Getting rid of Jaylon Smith, Cooper, and Collins shows they are not comfortable at all. Cowboys know they are garbage without Dak at QB. Dak will be here for another 7 years. Jerry for one has shown he is averse to drafting QB's as long as the franchise guy is not on his last legs.

Which to me is a big mistake.

Yet the rams can sign any player they want with the funds they have, I'm not buying it! We will continue to be tight with our money

The Rams have mortgaged their future with draft picks in order to make a run during this short term window. They are therefore doing the same with the salary cap. This is why they keep going for it all.

I’d be surprised if we don’t sign a couple guys and during the year we sometimes add players. I still think a vet swing tackle is a good idea. I wish they’d stick smith at guard and not move him around this camp. Let him spend the whole camp learning guard and then next year work him at tackle, but I doubt they do that. Im not so comfy with the unproven depth at tackle myself

why do we need to sign players? As if signing some veteran is going to magically make us better?

I think they want to see what they have in OTA’s and mini camp first.
Give them a chance to see what they have. Then go from there.
This is typical, actually form all teams. You won’t see much movement going on for another month most likely.

Until some players are released from teams, or injuries occur. Won’t be many signings. If injuries then may see some trades. I don’t expect much until after TC starts. Unless some rookies as in the UDFA are a bust and they can see that quickly.

It rarely works out like that. Oakland traded Cooper after 3.5 years in lieu of having to pay him.

AJ Brown made sure he got his money after 3 years.

Tyreek Hill was drafted in 2016 and got his extension in 2019.

DK Metcalf is likely to get his money before year 4.

We’ll probably hear Deebo’s new contract terms before year 4 is up.

Its up to CeeDee. Do you think if he has his breakout season as a #1, that he’ll sit on his hands until 2025, or will he want what other players who do what he does (or less than he does) are getting? We already know if he pulls a Zeke that Jerry will likely cave. We won’t know where his mind is until that time comes.
Good points.

If Lamb wants Adams money, and demands it sooner than after year five, first he needs to go out there and play like Adams.

I like him and think he may do just that, but he hasn't thus far, but now he gets his shot at being the top guy, so let's see.

Personally I can't see paying a QB 40 and a WR 25, but I also don't see Jerry dealing one of his prized "stars" away like KC and GB did with their WR.

The difference is that these other teams are smart enough to find out a year before the contract is up whether the WR wants crazy money or not. And if he does then they trade him. THATS the ONLY reason why these guys get their money early.

Now with Jerry, he isnt THAT smart. He waits till they are FA's. So if Ceedee wants big money early, with Jerry he probably isnt going to get it.

No I don't think that's it. Stephen "Cap Boy" Jones is just a tight wad. He doesn't believe in spending lots of money on top talent. I don't think he even cares about winning. He is going to be worse than his father.

Yep it's the Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams scenario's, work it out a year before, rather that the Coop situation when in all intense and purposes we trade to trade him when everyone knew (even without Jones admitting it) that we werent going to be vesting he's guarantee.

For me I quite like the idea of making CeeDee work (under WR1 conditions) and paying him accordingly, I keep saying I hate the improvement we see in the contract year and we get fleeced and overpay.

But you don't have to wait. That's why people are asking the question.

Diggs is eligible for an extension after this year. We are currently looking at 21 Million per to sign him to a longer term deal. Now that can be structured to lower the cap hit for the first couple of years but it is going to take a lot of money per year to resign him.

Even if Diggs gets signed after this year, it's not until 2025 before we see a big cap hit.

Why are you rolling over $$ for two years minimum away?

Lamb has at least 3 years with a 5th year option

This, like someone with loads of money and never spends it, not going to do you any good to put it in the coffin with you.

You need 53 and swing tackle is not really a position on this team you want a rookie
It’s not like any one player is gonna make a huge difference on any team at this time of year. But it can improve your depth and our swing tackle is very likely to play this year

The best time to upgrade your roster with free agents is June.
