or able to understand another language, I don't think speaking or writing it could be learned that way. The eyes would have to be bypassed and some sort of visual learning for writing

In a way it is. He is understanding how the video games works and how to play and beat pong which is not knowledge he had before.

I know what you are saying though. As far as learning a language you don't know I think it would have to be subliminal. If the chip is able to bypass the ears and allow a brain to hear and learn, you might be able to learn a language in your sleep the same way you would when you are awake. Or depending on how the brain works, maybe it could teach you while you are awake and performing other tasks. If something like the audio part of Rosetta stone ran 24/7 to your brain, I would think at some point it would me a matrix style upload where "I know kung f.u" or I can speak russian just happens. Just a thought

All he "learned" is that he could play hands free, and it was the physical experience that taught him that. Still very cool, but not what I would consider a precursor to downloading a program into one's brain.

You are right. It is a one way street right now. It is teaching the computer, not the computer teaching the monkey. They would have to have the computer use the smoothie to teach the monkey for it to go the other direction, but even then that is far from downloading.

This actual seems like a really advanced way to train A.I. brains/programs to think like humans. If they run facial recognition programs alongside the neural recognition program the computers will be able to learn even more.

Maybe they can use the mapping to somehow improve functions in humans but it would still require a stimuli. Take someone who is good at something and map their neurons doing it, then teach someone who is not good at it by using the proper neuron mapping

Maybe, but I'm pretty sure everyone's neurons are different. They develop and route themselves through experiences, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if rerouting them to match someone else's is possible.

I don't know how it would work which is why I asked about the parameters of the questions. Could it work that way? The chip would have to be fully integrated into the brain in the same way graphics chips integrate with a CPU. What does a graphics card do? It converts output from a CPU into a language that can be interpreted by a monitor to display what the CPU has calculated. In the case of an implant the chip would have to convert the brain's thoughts into impulses that could be interpreted by the brain which would then send the proper impulses to the body to activate muscles or other organs. I do not imagine you would receive the implant and immediately begin playing the violin or something. Certainly you would have to adapt to having a second brain, but that would be a quick learning curve.

I agree with you in that I think people will line up for this stuff. Both on the technological/mechanical level, and what is going to start being done with crispr cas 9 and on a medical level. It will also be forced on people for both testing and application. I am sure there are already countries using unwilling participants including ours.

This is regina dugan from darpa/google in 2013, I think it fits your grain of rice chip. I imagine the technology has in increased in the last 12 years



This is not that radical. It is more like an implanted RFID chip which we are used to trade dogs and even children. In terms of authentication, I would rather move more towards advancing biometrics than implants. I think more people would be willing to use facial recognition, fingerprints or even DNA matching that get a tattoo or swallow a pill every day.

But these are not integrated to work with or augment the human brain. I little pill is cool in that it uses the stomach acids to generate a current, but the problem is anything you put in your stomach is going to eventually come out so it is temporary. A brain implant would need to remain in place and have a self contained power supply or it would have to tap into the nervous system to steal come current. I wonder if you could implant the chip anywhere in the body where it would "plug into" a nerve to reach the brain.

The computer is in their hand (cell phone), but it will soon move to their brain. He wrote a book called The Artelect War, which talked about a war that will be coming between normal humans (Terrans), and artelects (arteficial human intellects). He talked about how advanced the thinking of artelects will be compared to normal terrans, that it will be like how we view ants. They are so far beneath us and unimportant that it is nothing when you kill them. The artelects intelligence will be so far above the terrans that it will be easier to kill them than find work and a way to feed them.

Questions

1. At some point the children with chips in their brain will be so far above normal children, that parents will have to decide whether or not to chip their children, so that they can keep up in school, jobs, etc. Would you chip your child?
2. If it is approved to be safe, will you move your computer from your hand to your forehead?

Very interesting.

There's a new filed of study in neuroscience that believes mapping the brains connectome is the key to treating brain diseases and mental illnesses. For this thing to work to its potential, I would think that learning as much as we can about how our brain is wired would be ideal for the evolution of things like this interface.

I stumbled across this because T.K. Seung was my philosophy professor. And he would talk about his son, Sebastian, who might be the smartest Father/Son duo I've ever seen. T.K. was a legend on campus. He's retired now. But his son is the head of research and neuroscience professor at MIT, formerly Yale.

Anyhow, I won't even try to compete with this dude's knowledge and intellectual capabilities. If you're interested in Neuroscience, you should know about Sebastian Seung. He invented the term connectome, which is now in the dictionary.

In all seriousness though, soMeone WILL find a way to hack someone's brain and force the to commit murder.
Commit murder, terrorist attacks, robbery, etc., the list goes on. This kind of stuff is pushing the limits of playing God.
