Do you folks generally get a boom or bust vibe from him? Put the off the field stuff aside for a minute.

I'm not sure I see him ending up in Anthony Spencer ville (good not great).

I see him as either Taco or something very special.

They did reach for him according to many player rankings, but it was probably worth the shot.
Taco wasnt a try high energy guy. Maybe even lazy that’s not de Sam

I think Sam Williams will be better, perhaps much better than Vernon. Just for starters Sam is 4.46 vs 4.8 and was more productive in college even while playing covered up a lot in their scheme.

He physically resembles Vernon’s build/physique to me. If he has Vernon’s NFL career I would consider that a success for a 2nd rounder.

Who were the “faster guys at defensive end”?

Amare Barno.. Went to the Jags in the 6th round.

Two totally different players. Suggs was nowhere near the athlete Williams is. Williams is nowhere near the natural pass rusher Suggs was.

How does one become a natural pass rusher?

I think it's more like Sam Williams has only been playing football for five years and Suggs likely played all his life. So Williams has some catching up to do, and all the tools to do it.

By the way, for me, the Sam Williams compares to Bruce Smith...

If he only gets half of 19 sacks, I'll be stoked.

Barno...

There were some CBs with sack stats. Do they count also...

I'm not so sure on that one...Sam Williams is pretty fast to the QB. The main reason he slipped in honestly was the assault

Yeah, that was why I asked in the first place. Lack of ‘speed’ is NOT a valid criticism of Sam Williams. That was my point.

I want opinions from the board. I hear his first step is the best in the draft. Imagine if he wasn’t 261. At 250 he might run 4.3.
A faster Duane Smoot. Who has become a very good player for the Jags, BTW.

Sam needs some refining, needs to develop some instincts and better moves. Nice ceiling.

He's raw. Only played the traditional DE position for one season.

Amare Barno - 6'5 246 4.36

Derrick Thomas - 6'3 234 4.58
Jason Taylor - 6'5 243 4.67
Von Miller - 6'3 246 4.42
Randy Gregory - 6'5 235 4.64
DeMarcus Ware - 6'4 251 4.53

And I'd play Barno at OLB simply because he is still too raw as EDGE.
Focus on build, not weight.

From scouting reports: "Incredibly thin frame w/ basketball player legs. Unlikely to have the versatility to play DE...Not particularly bendy and will have a hard time turning the corner around linemen. Lacks the shock in his hands to knock back tackles.....Struggles to get off blocks and make an impact in the run game."

Don't see him making it in the NFL. Skinny guys just don't work on the DLine.

Justin Tuck
He was a bit more stiff and played DT/DE..BOTH. SW is bendier. He is strictly a Edge guy that can stand ^ in a pinch and attack the ball. His game speed is much better than Tuck in his day. Tuck was a grinder. Great hand usage and tech. Loved that player btw.

Terrell Suggs is my comp for SW. He has work to do in order to reach his level, but I think this is very good.

I see him as more of a 34 OLB. I want Williams and Tank as the two OLBs. He’ll put on weight naturally, but I’d rather not try to put 10-15lbs on him to play DE and he hurts a knee. He’ll probably be best around 265-270 range for weight. I also don’t know about him dropping in coverage, so I wouldn’t put him as a 43olb, I’d keep him on the line.

You see Lawrence as a 3-4 OLB?
