Yes, dear fans, this question is cyclical but it needs an update.

Why? Two words:
Romo. Dak.

There are the highs of the aftermath of 5 Super Bowls. But our haul could have been 8 Super Bowls if boneheaded and unfortunate plays had not occurred.

Me painful moment through the ages?

It remains Jackie Smith dropping tha ball in tha end zone in Super Bowl XIII Jan. 1979.
Crushed I was. Had I been old enough I would have gotten drunk with me mum.

In recent history, good lads all, there was the Romo extra point muff and the agonizing Dak run to football ridicule in the last seconds for not sharing the ball with the ump.

So, me fellow furry friends of fierce fandom, what are your painful memories of Cowboy Lore?
What bad memory would you care toshare/ unload as you look ahead?

'81 nfc championship game.
joe montana ripped out my heart.
i'm still not over it.
even the 3 super bowls didn't heal it.
helped.
but didn't heal completely.

most recently...losing in the divisional round to green bay in '16.
it was laid out perfectly for us.
home-field advantage.

Recent memory… Romo fumbled snap and the Dez catch. Those were our years. The Dak run hurt last year but I knew we weren’t going to win that game anyways the way the team finished the second half of the year like a limp loser.

70’s teams had a few moments of pain up until the Catch in the early 80’s.

I don’t have many painful memories from the 90’s team other than blowing it to San Fran for the threepeat. The Carolina loss sucked too because I was so used to them winning it all and I don’t think it dawned on me yet how beat up, aged and bereft of backup talent the team was going forward. But that 90’s team was almost always clutch when they had the comparable talent.

Romo Moment - Denver, Manning vs. Romo.
Romo was on course to beat the all-time passing yards in a game record, set by Norm Van Brocklin in *1951*. A record for the ages, and it was served up on a silver platter with Romo needing to drive about 50 yards against a Denver defense that hadn't made a stop *all game*. And now Tony would have 4 downs to get those first downs, because it was do or die.
And Romo would have beaten Peyton Manning, arguably the best QB of all time. One shining moment for Tony in a career wasted by Jerry and The Red Menace.

But no. Stumbles over Tyron's feet, throws to a covered TE instead of a wide-open Barber.

Almost Antonio strikes again.

That one felt the worst.

Crayton pulling up on the game winner in 2007 was worse in effect, but it didn't feel worse at the time. Looked like the Cowboys were going to be contenders for years when they lost against the Giants. That Denver game looked like Tony's last chance at the time. Last chance to leave a mark. Last chance to have a moment.

As it turned out, it wasn't. The UnCatch was another moment.

And then simply not being allowed to take back the helm of the 2016 team that was Romo's best chance in the 2010s to get to the big dance.

So much Almost Antonio. But the Denver Shootout was the worst. I remember even thinking "ok, even if they lose, just don't let it be Romo's fault". Doh!

Good post but the Romo mishandled snap was on a field goal attempt, not an extra point. I assume you’re talking about the Seattle playoff game.
