he's 32 and would come with a 17+million cap hit this year, 18 million next year, 17 million year after that. we paid him 8mm for the 1 year he was with us
I dont see anyone picking up the phone

He is not a 17m cap hit for whoever trades for him. He is a 12.9m cap hit for whoever trades for him and 13.9m next year(and Chicago has 4m in dead money). For what he did that is a bargain.

They already have Fowler, Williams, Lawrence, Armstrong, Basham, and Gholston. There is a player limit.
Combine them all together and you might get a slightly above average DE. Williams is the only bright spot among those players.

If we trade for him, we don’t take as much a cap hit if cutting him next year right? If enough cap room and no higher than probably a 4th or 5th, I’d go for it.

I wouldn't mind this, for depth. If we're bringing in older guys, give me Hitchens. He's a 100% effort, team guy..

I want to see if any of younger guys make the roster in preseason.

This wouldn't hurt, though. Quinn still has some gas left, it looks like.

18 sacks of gas in 2021. What if Chicago says ok we have a new coach new Gm we don’t want disgruntled players we want a 2 in next yrs draft . I say no thanks . I would offer a 4 take it or leave it. Tank on one side Quinn on the other with Williams and Armstrong as rotation sign me up .

I am curious as to why does Quinn want out ? Chicago hired a DC as HC and I believe both were in Dallas together 2 yrs ago . Strange .

They probably plan on rushing Parsons from time to time. I don't think they have any desire for more help on the edge.

He left because we couldn’t pay him and we won’t pay him now. We’re certainly not going to trade for him. The Cowboys are pretty much set with what they’re going to be entering training camp with.
We COULD pay him, but if traded we provide won't have to pay his full salary

1: Robert Quinn's pass rush production varies widely from year to year.
- Is it 18.5 from 2021 or 2 from 2020?

2: Quinn is a terrible run defender.
- It is hard to commit to him as a starter unless the other 10 players on defense are super run defenders.

3a: A team acquiring him in a trade inherits base salaries:
2022: 12.8M
2023: 14M
2024: 12.9M

3b: He needs to be a full time starter at those salaries but he would be most valuable used as a pass rush specialist that does not have to play run defense.

Stephen: specialist for pass rushing and at those prices...not in this fan's crystal ball operations.

Quinn is simply a damn good pass rusher. He joined the 100 sack club last year with a monster effort, but more importantly than the high-variance sack stats, his pressures per year have been really consistent.

A divorce makes sense for both him and the Bears. Quinn doesn't want to waste his last good years on a tanking team, and Chicago would rather free up the cap space for their rebuild. But the logistics of moving him are going to be tough this time of year. Half the league has $10M or less in cap space remaining, so it's difficult to even find a team who can pay him what he wants.

I'd say Quinn's most likely suitors are

Packers ($16M free and contenders)
Buccaneers ($12M free and definitely SB contenders)
Colts ($16M free, not really contenders but they don't suck either).
Panthers ($26M free and in a win-or-else situation, they will pay him if no one else will).

Regardless, Dallas isn't one of those teams, and he's not coming here. We don't have the cap space to take on his deal, nor are we really in a position to give him a starting role. Not with what we've already invested in Armstrong and Sam Williams.

he always wanted to get sacks.

Was terrible at edge contain vs run.

Hypothetically, if the Cowboys got him he wouldn't be used in run situations. Just 2nd and 10+ or 3rd and long. They can release him after 2022, so it doesn't matter what he costs now.
