How did you get roped into becoming a Cowboys fan?

I am old enough to remember the Super Bowl win against the Broncos, but I mostly came of age in the Danny White years. Those years were tough too. We were still really good, but not good enough to win another championship for Landry. 3 straight NFC title losses was tough to swallow. Something people who say they would be satisfied with an NFC title appearance for the current group should think about.
I lived through that. But you know what? I still prefer that to the last 26 years.

I didn’t get roped into anything as to being a fan. I just became a fan as if it was a natural thing to do.
After the Ice Bowl. Though I liked them before. But became more aware of being a fan after that game.

I've told this before, but my earliest football memory was watching them beat the Commanders in that 1-15 year. My dad actually scrimmaged against Henryetta in high school and allegedly picked off Troy in that scrimmage. I was born in Henryetta but we lived in Castle. So we had a "hometown" kid we rooted for.

Anyway, I remember watching the win in that 1-15 season because my grandpa was in the hospital (nothing major, he got better). We watched the game in his room and everyone was so excited when they won, even though Troy wasn't playing. As we all know, the next year was the beginning of something special. Magical time to be a kid and a Cowboys fan.

Edit: lol at the name change. I didn't type "Football Team"

Let's say you are a young enough Cowboys fan to where you weren't even old enough to remember the last Cowboys Super Bowl championship back in January 1996.

How in the hell did you get roped into becoming a Cowboys fan? Was it the Joneses and their wit and savvy?

Just curious.

Used to watch football with my gramps and the Cowboys were his favorite team so I just kinda latched onto them.

Biggest reason was I moved to Dallas about 20 years ago. They became my home team. But I always had a tremendous amount of respect for Roger Staubach, great guy, great player.

I have told this before, so the short version. My uncle played football at the Naval Academy and was Roger Staubach's teammate. I met Roger and became a fan. He inspired me to want to become a college quarterback. When Roger ended up on the Cowboys, I became a Cowboy fan. I also played football and worked hard to become a good player. I never became a quarterback but coming out of high school at 6'4", 245, I accepted a D1 scholarship from Rutgers and played four years of college football, three as a starter at LB/DE. I also was tried at TE, but, um, hands of stone and such. Had two stints in NFL camps (Washington and New York Giants) but didn't make it. Plenty strong (could bench 400) but too slow for the pro game.

But thanks to being inspired by Roger I worked hard and had opportunities that many people never have.

Must admit though, when Tony Romo became the starting QB that cemented my allegiance. :star:
Bledsoe just didn't cut it for me.

Its Jerry.
That’s why I’m here. We could have been Charger fans if he’d of bought them in the 60’s ;)

Dr Jerry Buss could have bought the Cowboys instead. And Jeannie Buss would be Cowboys owner now.

Wow! Incredible story.

You could be the first former NFL player and probably Div 1 player we’ve had in these Cowboys forums.

We are very fortunate to have you here.

I was young, naive and quite gullible. I was visually exploited and lost my fan innocence. I was not only roped but hog-tied and DCJJ branded.
I am considering starting up a "Go Fund Me" campaign to pay for my continuing therapy.

I don't count myself as a former NFL player. I was a camp body that saw a few minutes in preseason games for both teams. And yes, I got my *** kicked out there, lol. But at least I tried my best.

Parents had super bowl party in 1977 and we lived in Dallas. It was the best time to be in Dallas. The city was young, rapidly growing, and united in its love for the Cowboys..........Landry and Staubach ruled the city.
