wait, why is this a thing?

The Mavs bench, and in particular a player named Pinson have violated league decorum in terms of standing throughout the game and not providing space at the sideline. The league has fined the Mavs something like ~$175K already. During Game #2 Curry threw a pass to Pinson (who was standing and wearing a white shirt the same as the Dubs uniform that game). The next game (which the clip is from) Pinson again wore the same color shirt as the Warriors jersey that game.

Health willing, I’ve got Warriors in 5 no matter who they face in the Finals.

Dallas and Memphis were considered very good defensive teams too, until GS showed up. Defending the Warriors is a completely different animal because of their constant ball/player movement, on top of their sheer talent.

Also, GS was ranked #2 defensively this season, right behind Boston. And that was with their stars barely playing together all year.
I taught the GSW offense to my AAU girls team for their junior and senior years.
It stresses defense both vertically and sideline to sideline.
You get up a ton of shots and just wear teams down.
But a lot of guys are having career series which may indicate the below.

Dallas is just fried. They aren't a very deep team and this has been a long playoff run.
Dallas ground down Chris Paul and the Suns but they tired themselves out in the process.
They'll go into the off-season looking to get deeper and better.
It's a whole lot easier to recruit guys when you were a conference finalist than it is as an R1 loser.

If you are a Celtic or Heat fan what you have to hope for is Dallas shooting it lights out a couple games and dragging the series on.

No one wants to face a Finals opponent that is far more rested than they are.

This series should be 2-2 right now. Dallas let game 2 slip away.

GS is a good team but it's been more Dallas not hitting open looks than GS defense keeping Dallas in check.
Would be nice if Dallas could get some rest for DFS and Bullock as they have played such heavy minutes these playoffs, but that is a fix for the offseason as there just isn't any options on the bench.

On another note - what a strange playoffs so far. Hardly any close games - just trading blowouts back and forth.

With the Mavs staring at a gentlemen's sweep I just want to say I wouldn't change places with any other fanbase. Dallas has the next LeBron or MJ and it is so unbelievably lucky to be in that position.
That's exactly right. Give him an average big who can roll and be a defensive threat - with another 3&D and they'd be ready to roll through anyone. Heck, if THJ was healthy right now they'd probably be at least tied w/ GS in the series.

This offseason is going to be hard to do that due to limited assets and their cap situation with Brunson getting the Brinks truck.

I don't even know if they need a true center; although it would be really nice.
They could get away with a guy Luka's size playing there provided he could move his feet, rebound and score.
They need to get deeper in general. Too much dead weight on the roster.
Josh Green should grow into more PT.
THJ should be back healthy.
And they should start to get bandwagon guys on vet min deals who can actually play.

Will be interesting to see if they use pick 26 or they trade it for an overpaid vet.

I think it's likely one of THJ/Dinwiddie gets moved. They are kinda the same dude as onball guards and you have Luka/JB at point.
Would 26 and either guy get you a big like Gobert? Likely not but other overpaid bigs can be gotten.

Bittersweet end to the season. Exceeded expectations and got experience against a Championship side in the conference finals. Hope they build from here and Luka learns from this.

Anybody into the draft?
  • Jaden Ivey has some Morant-level athleticism
  • Not as high as others on Chet Holmgren; dominant players with his build are outliers (Durant). He's undeniably skilled but I think his ultimate ceiling will always be limited by his physique
  • Paulo Banchero really intrigues me. Well-built athlete (reminds me a bit of Ben Simmons) that can handle the ball as a point forward with an advanced offensive game. Has his struggles as a team defender but I feel like that can be improved over time.
  • Nikola Jovic is my potential star sleeper that could feasibly fall out of the lottery. Skilled 6'-11" Serbian big-man with handles and is put together athletically as 19-year old. As a Dubs fan I would welcome a trade up into the teens to get him but I have a feeling he'll go in the Top 10-14 when it's all said and done.

It looks like we are getting just what we didn’t want. I hate all these California winning championships and we win squat.
