We are a less talented team on offense ....... But I think our defense is more talented now.

I mean, if you judge the moves on paper then I'm surprised there are 8 teams rated worse to be honest.

We didn't clearly upgrade a single position. We replaced guys, but we have no idea if they're upgrades or not until the games start.
This is true i cant remember an offseason where we downgraded at a couple positions and not make a single improvement.

Speculative negativity, as it pertains to the Cowboys, is a consistent bestseller—comfort food for overreactive morons and ABD’s.

This hasn't been a good offseason on paper.

I know people think rookies like Smith are an automatic upgrade over Williams, but we just do not know that at all. He could literally be worse for all we know.

Tolbert and Washington are not better than Cooper and Wilson at least on paper. It remains to be seen if they are when the games starts. I highly doubt it though.

Folwer and Williams automatic upgrade over Gregory? I'm not a Gregory fan at all and was glad to see him go, but the replacements are not automatic upgrades.

Steele replacing Collins? Maybe, but like everything else it remains to be seen if it works in the long run.

There is not a single position that you can say is a clear upgrade and we got better there.

And we also have no idea if they’re downgrades or not, either.

I love silly claims that are impossible to prove or gauge at this stage.
I hope all the Anal-ysts keep predicting that the Cowboys will fail. Better to start at the bottom so you can only go up. Seems each time I hear how bad my team is going to be, they end up doing much better than anticipated. It's when they are supposed to do really good, they end up with a 4 and 12 season. jmho

Basically, your theory is largely based on luck.
Just reality
Did you think we did enough last year to improve our defense the way it did?
I didn’t
Do you think we improved the team this year? I don’t
But till they play the games we aren’t gonna know
And I do t think keeping cooper or Gregory would have changed anything. We had them last year and was one and done in the playoffs
I think the needed and seem to be trying to build a more physical, more effort over talent type roster
We’ve been talented as a roster for most of the last 25 years but haven’t won anything. Maybe talent alone isn’t the answer. Maybe loading your roster with guys who love the game, give effort every down over comes some lack of talent
I’d rather try something different than stay the same
Do I think we are going to the SB this year? Not at all likely. But maybe we can begin to build a different type of team that can build into something

I don’t think La’el, Gregory, or Cooper is the difference between the Cowboys winning or losing in January 2023. Cooper gets in CeeDees way. It is time for him to be the number 1 receiver. La’el would have led the league in penalties over Williams if he didn’t get suspended for 6 games. Gregory had three dominant games out of the 11 games he played last season. Let’s let the season play out. I bet by the end of the season the Cowboys defense will be better then last season and the team over all will be tougher.
It maybe be a small step back initially, but should take a step forward in the long-run. Sam Williams has the potential to be as good as Gregory, if not better. Ever since Collins signed that extension, he has struggled with availability, missed the last year and almost a half. Cooper was a fine receiver, but he never showed up in the big game.

Only the 9th worst? That’s a lot better than I expected.

Supposedly Sam is playing linebacker in the OTAS. I am interested in how Quinn lines up this defense. Gholston is the starting 3 tech. He is 6’5 270. This defense will be versatile and you won’t know where the rush is coming from.

La'El had the highest run blocking grade in the NFL at his position. We replaced him with a JAG with no upside. Gregory was a pass rushing force and we replaced him with a second round rookie. Cooper was injured a lot but we replaced him with a JAG and a rookie, now we have a WR issue with Gallup likely not ready for week 1.

The problem isn't losing a few players. The problem is replacing them with lesser talent. Maybe it works out, but typically losing good players and replacing them with JAGS and rookies isn't a path to success or improvement.

So now the media is bad again? I mean, they knew what they were talking about when they graded our UDFA class the best. Lol. The media (house) always wins.

Anyone would have questions about what we've done (or not done) in free agency. A decent amount of questions at positions and of course no one ever accounts for regression, only progression. A few will disappoint, a few will surprise. It's all about at which positions that happens. For one, I hope we get surprises with pass rush because that is yet again a question mark for me.

Not sure who does these so-called rankings. Even Bleacher Report chimed in on this ranking. Just don't agree with this one. How about you @Ranching ? Our football guru's opinion is....?!

"What went wrong: It’s clear the Cowboys wanted to sign Gregory, and it’s never a good look when you announce a deal, only for the player to then head elsewhere. Reports have suggested they tried to add language into the deal after the fact, so it seems fair to blame them for the Gregory deal falling apart. Gregory looked like a superstar for stretches in 2021, so it’s not going to look great if he continues to keep that up in Denver.

Dallas’ cap gymnastics forced the team to part with Amari Cooper in a salary dump, trading him to the Browns for a fifth-round pick. My preference would have been to keep Cooper, whose numbers fell a year ago in part because the Cowboys simply had too many weapons on offense, but they didn’t have the leverage to extract meaningful value in exchange for the 27-year-old’s services. He’s not on the same level as Davante Adams or Tyreek Hill, but acquiring him didn’t cost close to as much as those two did in terms of draft capital, while his contract isn’t as expensive and has more flexibility."

Every off season is special....a lot of hope and optimism. I hater losing Cooper and Collins and getting nothing in return, but the new blood brings hope. Never, quit in during the off season, every team is still undefeated. Quitters and haters won't agree....so be it.

I have been watching La’el since he came in the league and he has been an overrated JAG that has been living off the reputations of Tyron, Martin, and Frederick. When we needed him to step up he has been missing in action. Steele is probably are second best linemen right now and the team played better when he was the right tackle over La’el. Please leave those PFF grades at the door. They said we had a top 5 offensive line last year. A 24 year old tackle entering his third season has no upside?
Gregory 16 career sacks is a force alright. Last season was his first full season without getting suspended and he had 3 great games out of 18 to show of it. You can argue that he cost us the 49ers game because he was an idiot.

What makes it worse is they off load cooper to now be on the look out for veteran help at the position and Gallup being out probably somewhere between 3-8 games this season so in essence they lost 2.5 WR of their 4 top WR from last year.

I think they are fine in the backfield.
If the OL ix fixed, that should fix much of the running game, if Moore gets his head on straight.
That also improves Dak.

Zeke and Tony will be healthy, and they get Dowdle back, and Hardy showed some improvement. They signed FA Nall, that can play FB as well, be a 3rd RB and play ST's. he can be utilized in 3 spots, and saves a roster spot for an extra OL, DL, S position, for whom ever is the 53rd best player.

I don't think a rookie could come in and help at this point. Especially when they may need to address this in next years draft.
Many want / say Zeke is gone because of the salary cap, Pollard is a FA as well.

Agree about the WR, as we need to see how all of this shakes out. We thought it was a strength last year, but really didn't work out so well. With the injuries and all and Gallup starting out on PUP this year.
If they stay healthy. If not we're thin.

Many of the same people who insist we’ve regressed ALSO say we “have the easiest schedule”, so how much worse than 12-5 will we be? IMHO, injury and officiating will play a huge role.

Technically, 15-2. Zuerlein literally cost Dallas 3 games. Including the season opener vs Tampa missing 3 three pointers. But it's Dak's fault. "He can't beat good teams". Hilarious everytime I see someone post that.

ONLY on paper!
