All of them have all doors locked during the day.
Now, when school is starting and ending there are kids streaming in/out of a single location (and guards present) but once the first bell rings, doors are locked.

I went high school in Texas (Arlington Lamar) in the mid-90s. Front entry was unlocked. I’m not sure when the “all doors locked” policy was put into place.

Well after that.
Probably was not in FULL force until 2015 or so, but things started changing (as in the airports) after Sept 11, 2001.

Speaking for myself, I have not posted in this thread as much as I might because I bounce from mad to sad so much and I want to take it out on something. The frustration of helplessness with hopelessness added to it is more than we should have to bear.

This city and officers are in for a hell of a ride with this one, they totally dropped the ball. They are good at giving out tickets though. Btw, the Supreme Court has already ruled that police officers have no legal responsibility to protect you, just saying.

It's a common trend in situations like this...

In the Sandy Hook mass shooting, the shooter shot & killed his mother before hand.

Charles Whitman killed both his wife and mother prior to climbing the University of Texas clock tower.

The worst school mass murderer of all, Andrew Kehoe killed his wife and blew up his house prior.

It’s being reported that he had a Daniel Defense rifle and some high end equipment? No idea how an 18 year old got it all together.

I just can't comprehend to all the shootings as of late GP. Many say mental illness, many blame game videos etc....

IF that were true, then why doesn't this happen in other nations?! Seems as though this evilness resides in the United States, & the United States only.

Something needs to be done. This is gut wrenching.

How many teachers have even the possibility of what happened taking place in their school? A lot more now and they will have the summer to think just how badly they want to teach.

Those cops drilled on active shooter most likely thinking that couldn't happen in our little town, nothing ever happens in our little town.

They sure are. I feel for the teacher who propped the door while she/he went to their car for their cell phone. It was in those "6 minutes" the madmen had seen the door open to make his entrance. The teacher probably didn't even think while propping that door open. I know I wouldn't have either. After all, it's only a couple of minutes, what are the odds, right?!

We should expect better from those empowered to protect our children. Making a victim of the teacher who willingly violated protocol, for no good reason, is part of the problem.

I suspect that this young monster just wanted a shoot out with the police. When no one engaged him outside, he kept escalating and killing until they did so.

I thank God for all the kids and adults that survived this. And, I hope there is something that can come from this law enforcement response that can be helpful in the future.

Man, unbelievable how local LE sat back and did nothing - until the Feds made their own decision to breach the room and stop the killing. There were 19 officers waiting in the hallway in that school while this monster was shooting, and while kids were making 911 calls for help from inside the rooms. Mind boggling. Tragically ironic that this happened where it did: All the “don’t mess with us” attitude and strutting around in their cowboy hats, and not one local cop independently decided they were going in to save the kids because that’s why they became a cop in the first place - not too stand by and let them die. Even some parents outside pleaded with local cops to give them their gun and body armor and they would go in. Another irony regarding the locale is that there were no civilians around carrying their own weapons to use to stop this monster. Thank God for the feds. This is painful on so many levels.
