As to the overall point....I agree on the distraction thing on the sidelines. They can talk one on one when needed from the booth.

For me, the view difference is night and day. Ever sit in the first few rows behind the bench? It's an awful vantage point. Line play is impossible to judge, but in the end I suppose it's personal preference (or what Jerry wants lololol), but I dont think it has much to do with success vs failure.

Yes I have sat in the lower sections at games, and hated it. Sitting up a little higher, you see how things develop.
I sat in the end zone, about the 10th row at Texas Stadium, and of course most of the action was at the other end. You could not tell if it was a 2 year loss or a 10 yard gain.

I sat in the 8th row at a game in Tampa, the old stadium, 1990, I was lucky this time most of the action was at my end, as I was on the sideline at the 5 year line. But same thing, any plays past the 40, it was hard to tell what exactly happened.

But both games, those were the seats available. One was the playoff game against the Cardinals, the one in TB was Irvin's 1st game back from his knee injury.

But was that a result of the owner/GM/coach/jockwasher telling him too?

No. Not this time anyway.

As I said, it was in an article as well on NFL sound bites clips. I think it was on the Inside the NFL show.

Judging from the San Fran game, he could be on the sidelines or on the moon. Although this does sound like an excuse Jerry would use to further Moore's career here. I'm all in favor of putting him in the booth now and speeding up his departure versus Jerry telling us at the end of next season that Moore just needs a better vantage point...for another 2-3 years.

I disagree.....a good coach can see how a play is going to develop the moment you break the huddle....from seeing everything from up top. Then if you see something you don't like...you still have time to audible to another play via helmet speaker. It's still a waste of time...not being able to see what the defense is running from the sideline. I would bet someone is radio down the alignments...but your wasting precious seconds...that could be used to get into a better play. I think they give Prescott far too much leverage in changing plays... which is one of his real weaknesses.

Sure....it would seem to be a personal preference thing, and I acknowledged that it's not likely tied to success vs failure.

Jazz it’s a good question- field or booth? Like some have mentioned already, I think it depends on the OC and their style.

I would think Kellen Moore prefers being on the sideline because he often has face to face interactions with Dak and other players between series. Some coaches like being able to have those kind of conversations with players in person rather than on a headset. I’ve seen some other playcallers prefer the distance between them and the players while being able to see the field better. Not sure one way is better than the other.
They get instant pictures of every play and they have assistants in booth. I agree it’s just what a guy is comfortable with and I don’t think it matters one way or the other

Only a very stupid defense is showing its hand that quick

I'm horrible at finding things but I remember when asked if Zeke was healthy Jerry saying he's playing and he'll be running up the middle!
Seems like it was late in season.

Would it benefit Moore and the team, if he coached and called plays from the booth, and not on the field.

I always been a firm believer the OC & DC should be in the booth, so they can see the layout and plays develop better than from the sidelines. I never bought into the reasoning of being with the players and crap. Except I see that for the ST's coach, communication is better 1st hand, since there are really a limited number of plays there.

I was watching the Dallas @ NE replay a few days ago. And seeing him walk on the sidelines, made me think of that.

Now production in that game was great, but way too many penalties called back some big plays. As well sloppy. Though Dak had the TD, they did not review. NE had penalties not called, such as a blow to the head on Dak. But an offensive penalty was called also. So the big gain did not count. However, the refs did miss the minor face mask on Brown in OT that would have given NE a 1st down, instead they punted.

Wilson drops a TD in the end zone, ball deflected fir an INT in the end zone. That was 21 points left on the field. If they made those plays, then Dak would have not hurt his calf. They win that game by 3 TD's.

Anyway, does it benefit them if Moore moves to the booth.
I think he would be much better if he called the games from outside the stadium, perhaps some other teams stadium :rolleyes:

Hate to side with those who supposedly hate Kellen Moore, but I don't see things working out in Dallas. That Jacksonville situation would have been perfect. Instead Moore tied his fortunes to a declining Dak Prescott. Not fair to either side. But the ship has sailed on Moore being the next Boy Wonder coach.

I think Pederson was the better hirer.

With Kellen in the coaches booth, .. as some have said, it depends strictly on the coaches preference and comfort.

Some coaches want that player interaction and up close communication with their players... some coaches want a bird's eye view from the booth to see the entire field more.

As vocal as he is supposed to be Dan Quinn himself prefers to be in the coaches booth instead of down on the field on the sidelines.

Have to be on the field to call your OLine Jr. Leagers. It works.

I think only a very small few fans have any feel for this at all. I'm clearly with the overwhelming majority that don't.

My thoughts, for whatever they are worth, are that I can see benefit to being high up so you can see the whole field and see formations and how things play out more easily, but I also see benefit in being closer to the action where you get a more personal feel for how things are going and can have more immediate, direct and effective communication with the players. Of course, even if on the sidelines there will be a coach in the booth that can relay info. Maybe not the same as seeing it directly, but it provides at least some of the benefit if a coach in the booth while still getting the benefit of the O-Coordinator on the field

In the end I don't think there is even agreement among coaches on which is better, so how can fans who have never come close to being in that situation judge?

I remember Quinn talking about moving to the booth last season. He said it was a big improvement for him over being on the sidelines.

Not sure if it would be the same for the OC as for the DC, but I would think you'd have a much better view of what your opponent is doing throughout the game.
