Same here. Ten years of him as a Cowboys coach was enough, I don't want any more whether he's a coach or commentator.
That's probably it for me. I've had my fill of him..... color commentating our underwhelming performance as a head coach all those years.

I get it...in the booth it's entertainment and word salad....he's great for that! Not sure I can stomach that all game long all season long. :(

I saw him once during the first weekend of USFL games. Had a creepy grin on his face the whole time and appeared to me to be doing a bad Romo impression.

He's done some commentating for the USFL. He's not bad but not NFL material. He'll probably end up covering Princeton games if I'm guessing right

Here's where being an ex-Cowboy gives you an advantage over any others. Gets your foot in the door. As we have seen with Emmitt and Witten, you gotta perform after that. Something tells me Jason will wear out his welcome pretty soon. Bland, vanilla and cliches come to mind.

Was not a fan of his as our coach, but I think he would be really good at announcing. Whether many would admit it, he knows the game of football and he's articulate. I think he has the potential to be excellent in the booth.

Nah that's completely ridiculous. Put JG in a room to watch film with 99% of posters here, and the posters would just be in awe of the detail JG would point out. Dismissing a former NFL head coach with a winning record as not knowing football is kind of like the out of shape 40 year old guy on his couch making fun of the last place sprinter in the olympics.

Even the worst of coaches at this level spend all day every day breaking down the game, while schmucks like us are sitting on this board discussing and advocating outdated concepts from a decade ago.
You nailed it, Jason has forgotten more football than the rest of us have ever known.

It didn't seem to help him much when he was here, hence the nickname 8-8.
I never said he was a great coach, because I do not think he was. I wanted him gone for years just like the majority of folks here.

But to think a person who spent 20+ years in professional football does not have a tremendous amount of knowledge about the game is very naive in my opinion.

The Star is secretly a broadcasting and public relations mentor program masquerading as an NFL Team headquarters these days. Sheesh. Do any teams outside of Dallas have on air talent?

Nice. I was hoping the Giants gave him a little more time, but I'm pretty sure two years was enough to ruin the QB.

Funny how it only took the Giants 2 years to figure out what it took the Cowboys 10 years to figure out. Apparently the old "It's a process" line didn't work with the Giants. :muttley:

If not for booger, he would have never been a head coach or at most a very short tenured HC. He never earned the designation. Former players openly say he didn't really know the X's & O's. He was really a PR guy with a HC title. I would bet you dollars to donuts he has never spent a full day breaking down film (at least not since becoming a HC.)
For one, there isn't much need to break down more than 2 games at any given time and that don't take all day even if you do it by yourself. Secondly, there are underlings who break it all down & feed it to the upper level staff. Only the truly detail oriented HC's & coordinators go beyond that nowadays. Third, HC's have too many other obligations to do film breakdown all day, every day.
Last but not least, even if I conceded (which I don't) that he understood the concepts & philosophies at a high level, his track record proves he had no clue how to put it all together so the sum was greater than the parts.

The hate for JG is just next level here. The guy won 87 games (lost 70) as a head coach, was a QB coach or OC for three different teams, and played 8 seasons of Quarterback in the NFL....to say the guy doesn't understand Xs and Os better than the common fan who will be watching on NBC is ridiculous. I never said that he is a great HC, I never put his name with a Tom Landry, Bill Walsh, Bill Belichick, etc. but the guy seems like a really good TV fit, and comes with a very credible resume.

The fact that no one can even say something nice about the guy for a position outside the NFL just shows where your heart is.

I never said JG was watching film all day every day. I basically said that he would run circles around posters here in the film room, and NFL head coaches break down the game constantly. Sometimes breaking down the game isn't film-related, but it can be meeting with assistants, putting together schemes/game plans, etc. You can swap out the name Jason Garrett for any failed head coach, and I would feel the same way on that. This isn't just a hobby for these guys like it is 99.9% of NBC viewers or posters on this board.
