NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Dalton Schultz is "frustrated" by a lack of progress in contract talks and refuses to attend the rest of the Cowboys' voluntary OTAs.

Franchise tagged by the team this offseason, Schultz is in line to make $10.931 million in 2022 if he can't strike a long-term deal with Dallas by July 15. Schultz, who was third among tight ends in 2021 with 78 catches and sixth with 808 yards, is ditching the rest of the team's OTAs -- perhaps a move that will jump start talks with Jerry Jones. Schultz's extension has been slow to develop while Browns TE David Njoku recently signed a four-year deal worth $56.7 million contract extension. The Cowboys will likely do whatever it takes to make their tight end happy in the coming weeks. Schultz could be the team's No. 2 target behind CeeDee Lamb in 2022.

Trade his butt.
He is weak at blocking so does not deserve a long term deal until he shows he can block like a complete TE deserving of big bucks.

11 mil guarantee an average te and he's complaining, cool
Yeah I like Schultz but how many really good games has he had in his entire career. Maybe 15 total ?

There's a reason he was tagged. Only had around a seasons worth of great play total within his 4 years and even according to himself he's struggled with blocking

Let me explain it to you, then. Salary cap.

Does that help?

No that simple - if the team makes an offer and the guy can get more on the market .. then go. If not, then stay and honor any contract that you sign. The holdout and referencing someone else's contract is, in my mind, absolutely irrelevant.

someone said they paid Njoku 55M and he had half the production...his run blocking is 10x better than Schultz though and this production is offset to either Nick Chubb or Kareem Hunt...anyone who wants to pay Schultz right now is tripping

Any player in the league in the same situation would do this. The Njoku deal reset the market. Schultz's last two seasons have surpassed Njoku's best. His agent would not be doing his job if any other actions were taken

Likely.

But it also would be in Dallas' best interests to let him throw his little temper tantrum. He's not worth that money and if the Cowboys buckle and him a deal similar or higher than Njoku, it's another dumb contract from this franchise.

He's not worth that money. Frankly, I am not sure there are many TEs worth that.
Okay. While TE's are all over getting paid more than you'd like around you.
I'm not advocating paying Schultz.
I don't even want it to happen.
I just think we need to put some reality goggles on in how players are getting paid now.
And it's about to get way worse, so prepare thyself.

Sign and trade it’s pretty easy. His salary is fully guaranteed. He’s not showing up until game 1 then he’s doing nothing. It’s not Schultz fault it’s the ridiculously long rookie contracts and then franchise tag.

And that's how teams end up with dumb contracts. We have a few ourselves, most noticeably Elliott's awful contract.

Jerry should resist the urge to pay what really is a decent, not elite, TE a crap ton of money. But he won't. Schultz will hold out, Dumby and his son will panic and Schultz will get a big deal in August that in two years we will be lamenting.

I'd rather trade Schultz for Metcalf if I'm going to pay somebody

Reality very rarely meets with fan expectations.
C'est la vie.
