he chose 2000 because that's when he became a fan lol. it's not arbitrary. And bottom five was clearly hyperbole. The takeaway is that he's been a fan for over 20 years and has none of the memories we do. relax

I’ve been a fan since the early 90’s. I’m 42 years old. The only reason I still follow this garbage is because of the success I witnessed in my youth.

The OP was the one that started following the team in 2000 so that what I based my observation on.

It feels that way to those of us old enough to remember greatness, but that is not reality. They are actually a top 15 franchise during that time.

The problem is they haven't made a single playoff run. Just a team treading water. They don't drown, but they don't go anywhere either.
In the last 21 seasons (since 2000) we have made the playoffs only 8 times. We haven’t been horrible, but only making the playoffs 38% of the time…then only winning 3 WC games…yikes.
Dallas' record this century places them just outside the top ten - 11th spot.
14 NFL teams have won over 50% of their games during this time span; but only the Cowboys have not appeared in a conference championship game. (The Vikings made it by one year- 2000 season.)

even more 2016-present Dak era we move d up spot top 10 in wins..

show me bottom five,
bottom 10,

average(16) NOPE WRONG

that 11th in wins since 2000 and 10th since 2016 its why the DC remain relative because they do at least win in the regular season. they still get the most prime time games etc biggest viewership etc
fans keep acting as if we are the browns a jets and Detroit and that nonsense, please you are not fans of toyu think that,,..

next narrative to bust with facts.. im real fan im willing to wait out this drought for another title many teams have had worse and got back,..
facts i posted within this thread top 11 top 10 since 2016 i mean rams 9ers and bucs all 20 games under LOL this thread died when no comps were used to judge and then fans go and keep calling us bottom 5 so far from the truth when actual comps are used..KC only 12 wins more over same period.
Starting QB lost for most of 2015 & 2020 -- 10 to 12 wins less for those two seasons combined.

The Cowboys regular season and postseason record is 182-177 as I've calculated. I went through every year of that, and yes, that is apparently our record.

Just thought it was an interesting thought.
Yep are have been an average team for a long time.
Postseason below average.
Lion skins and Cowboys only nfc teams not to go to the nfcc game in the last 25 years.
That's on the front office.
Only constant during that time frame.

You completely wasted your time on a stat that we've already known for a very long time. Nor is it interesting.

Sometimes, in the dog days of summer, the water temps are high and the salmon are down deep and hard to find. As we troll along under the hot sun, minutes turn into hours. The mantra becomes, "Every minute that passes without a hit, is one minute closer to the next hit."

The next hit always comes, as long as we keep trying.

The next 20 years starts this September. Keep the faith boys and girls.

Hyperbole doesn't belong in sports we keep stats and records for such debates.
I know this BUT many need to wake up and realize facts i posted. We are not Detroit, browns, jets or anywhere close..we are relative play many primetime games and still at least win in the regular season into top 10-11 in the NFL..that is fact i wanted to make sure not just record is being used but how that stacks up in the league,..

You have to be in your 30's to remember seeing the Cowboys play in a SB. It has been 26 years since they last got to that game. I have been blessed to have watched all 8 Cowboy Super Bowls including their 5 wins. Our young fans do not really realize how special the first 35 years of Cowboy history really was. You can read about it; you can listing to old coots like me talk about it; but to fully appreciate it you had to live it.
Ditto. I've seen all the great times, and it really sucks that this once great franchise is a basically a bottom dweller. I can't stop being a fan though.

I get that, but I would like to see us have more playoff success.

Shows how great the Cowboys really were in those early years. To remain at the top or near top of the podium in win percentage and SB wins after 26 years of jack squat, is amazing.

I think if I had started following the Cowboys around 2000 that I would have quit. It's the '70s teams and the '90s teams that keep me hanging on and hoping.

Of course, maybe it has the opposite effect on newer fans. You've never really seen this team be much more than mediocre, so you have no standard of greatness to compare it to while others remember the what it used to mean to be a Cowboys fan.
The Landry Days!!! Such class. Bob Lilly, Randy, Martin, Ed Jones. What a DL.

Jerry's Kids have had some nice seasons.....two one seeds in fact.....which were even MORE disappointing IMO when they STILL couldn't get to an NFCGC.

On the flip side, the Giants have been awful for a while now, with two Championships mixed in between.

Matter of which you'd rather have I guess.

yet he uses 2000 as starting point yet the rams, 9ers and bucs are about 20 games below 500 for thats era..he might as well used playoffs only because we are top 10-11 team since 2000 in wins..facts are easy to find narratives like this easier to bust.. this is why you dont go back that far

2016 for Daks era is as far as i like to go new players and coaches, so much turnover its not smart to use those long peiods ..we are top 10 in wins since 2016..its the payoff lack of sucess that the issue but we sill have large falling because we do win..
Rams since 2000 166 -186 lo 9ers and bucs worse.

the stupid posts on bottom 5 are clueless hater troll fans Bases..not real fans because i know we are winning just not the big ones.KC has only won 12more games then us in the same periods.

I think it’s about how you perceive the question. What does it mean to be the best in the NFL? Once upon a time the Dallas Cowboys’ success was measured in Super Bowl wins. Once the well dried up, the narrative shifted to playoff wins. “Only 3 in 25 years!” Remember that stuff?

And today, you’ve moved down one more rung to regular season wins. You mentioned the Rams. In your perception of what makes the best NFL team, you showed that Dallas is way higher on the list than LA. Do you believe any LA fan would trade the last 25 years of their franchise for yours? Of course they would right? Who wouldn’t? You’re top half in wins and they’re not… right?

Or… or just blanketing a statement about who is better than who on which teams won more games in September of 2007 and October of 2014 isn’t necessarily the best marker.

Teams at the bottom only know regular season wins, so they can only judge by regular season wins. Teams at the top know something more, they have a higher standard to weed out the opposition. Did you know the teams that won the most regular season games in the 90’s are the SF 49ers, the Buffalo Bills, and the Kansas City Chiefs? Do you think it’s fair to say Dallas was the 4th best 90’s team? I think there are some people here who’d take great offense to the way you rank teams.

we all want more playoff success but since 2016, staying more recent with THESE coaches and players, we are still top 10 in win% in the regular season. we are still winning and relative.

But you guys are forgetting how many yards the offense has been able to accumulate during the regular season. So many yards. Isn't that what really matters?

Irks me when posters try to put a spin on the last 25 plus years by pointing out the team winning percentage or regular season success. They say that the team was still "relevant." It is not about being just relevant. It is about winning. As Al Davis said in his heyday prime "Just Win Baby." They do not award relevant rings to players; there is no relevant trophy; there is no relevant flag to hang in your stadium; there is no relevant parade at the end of the season for players and coaches. To be truly "relevant' a team must make a big push in the playoffs every few years; and at least once a decade or so they need to be champions. Be gone with all the weak praise for a team that has actually accomplished next to nothing for the better part of three decades.
