If Schultz holds out mini-camp and gets fined, do we gain cap relief?

Only if Schultz signs his one-year contract which will be worth about $11 million. Jerry & Schultz have until July 15 to come to terms on a longer contract that would have less of a salary cap hit as Dallas looks for relief.

Kind of a catch 22 for Jerry. He has plenty of young TE's chomping at the bit that would be dirt cheap for the long run. But if he signs Schultz to a long term, he'll save on a big cap hit.
Schultz already signed the 1 year franchise tag deal.

All teams have plenty of young guys waiting to get in. But if it was such a sure thing your rookie TE could step in and replicate Schultz production, they would have let schultz walk. They didnt, because you aint just throwing any schmuck in at TE and touching what Schultz did the past 2 years, which was 141 catches and 12 TDs. Name me all 5 TEs that had better numbers than that. Amari Cooper had 160 catches and 13 TDs in that same two years, but many in here think he deserved his 20 million per year, while schultz deserves 3 million and a bag of Doritos.

Its the NFL way and always has been. Teams dont just throw cash players way, unless you are certain QBs.

inflated dump off stats???? thats what it is... just garbage dump off stats. You must not be watching the same games I watch.
I figured that would irritate someone lol.

Maybe you'd be surprised how easy it is to forget a check down for four yards during the course of any particular game, then at the end of the season its...'wow! 78 catches! He's great.'

I'm almost tempted to settle this once and for all by breaking down every contested catch vs those anyone could make....and exactly how many he set up himself by whiffing on a run block on a prior play.

On the flip side, the guy has gotten better every year he has been here, and I understand why they tagged him this year.

As fans of the team, we all need to be rooting for Ferguson to be able to start next year and we don't need to pay Schultz big money......as in maybe retaining Parsons AND Diggs eventually, and not just Parsons as one potential example.

Pretty sure this topic is exhausted by now but....here I am. It's Kool aid season again and I'm thirsty!

He is not gonna miss any mandatory time nor will he be fined.
I don’t get why some fans see a guy sit out a voluntary OTA and jump to “he’s gonna sit out”
He signed his tag almost immediately and he’s never said a word about sting out any mandatory activities
He is smart enough to know not to cost himself money

If Schultz holds out mini-camp (and potentially games) and gets fined , do we gain CAP relief, or is the CAP worked out purely on the original contract?
He would be crazy to hold out.
He is a poor blocker and yet is getting a hefty salary.
If a back up such as Ferguson has a strong camp, the Cowboys may just move on from him.

The Cowboys have plenty of cap space. The little generated by a potential Schultz holdout and fines won't do them any good.

It's one thing to not show up for OTA's, it's a whole another thing to miss training camp. Who says he is planning to do that?

The word 'if' indicates I was asking a question. People can't ask questions without some sassy response.

Dumbest thing he can do is hand Ferguson a golden opportunity to get up to speed quickly or even take the job from him with increased reps.

Then he can't get his inflated dump off stats and a big contract.

And Flamma is right about increased fines.

He will be in camp.
:facepalm::huh::lmao2: Ferguson like the 5th or 6th tight end on the depth chart. Shultz is not worried about any Cowboys tight end on the roster.

Just saying, don't think he is expected to miss camp and the team won't receive any financial savings if he does.

Yeah truly mind boggling why they did it. And it’s even worse he’s insulted by the tag that’s gonna pay him 10 million which is about 6 million more than I would’ve paid if I were GM.
It would have screwed up their draft if they didn't tag him. They are actually in pretty good shape going into the season right now. If they didn't tag him, they wouldn't have him and it would have changed their draft.

It shouldn’t have changed their draft. They knew offensive linemen and defensive end were pressing needs. There were other options to improve the tight end spot…..i would’ve much rather have had Oj Howard and go with him Mckeon and Sprinkle.

Seriously doubt he will miss any mandatory camps.... voluntary are a different matter. He has a franchise tag to uphold which both parties have signed, and he is lucky to have at this point.

Why would that be an excellent question? He signed the tag and isn't going to miss anything or hold out.
He is already skipping OTAs over his unhappieness.
Have seen stranger things happen before with this team, He should not hold out but neither should have Zeke.
Money can cause players and people to do some crazy things.

I would be surprised if Schultz holds out of mini camp. He signed his franchise tag and understands DLaw and Dak were also tagged. I doubt he wants to do anything that could possibly hinder his development entering this upcoming season. He’s going to need another real good season if he wants to get paid.
