Some players want 2 BYE weeks during regular season

Goodells job is to grow revenue every year. When they get stuck, they have two more weeks to play with.

I also read they went away from the Labor Day weekend, so not to compete with opening weekend for college football games. As many played on that Sunday and Monday also.
So you had TV scheduling as well as a courtesy not to directly compete. Let the fans watch their college opening games, then get fans watching the next week. Not to mention people traveling and could not watch.

Just like they stopped years ago having a special Friday night game. Since college started having Friday games as well. As now they will not have games on Saturday until after the college season is over, until the Bowl games.

shut down the pro bowl all together. remove1-2 preseason games, add an extra bye week. I think that's reasonable

I see almost a 0% chance this happens prior to the next CBA though. It's something owners are probably fine with, but will want to use as a bargaining chip, probably to get an 18th game approved.

The recent CBA deal, had a few clauses in it.

One being the owners had the right to add the 17th game between the 2021 and the 2024 season at their discretion. Of course they added that as soon as they could.
However, it also said they can't add an 18th game until the current CBA contract is up in 2030.

But that does not mean the can't renegotiate that.

No bye and 20 regular season games (no preseason) that way owners can use the players up even faster and not have to worry about paying that second contract.

I think the more you listen to players the worse the league gets.

I would counter with making them go through training camp again.

They could remove that game and that week and only have 1 week between the championship games and the SB. But then they lose a week of propaganda and revenue.

They had two bye weeks in 1993 and everyone hated it so much they got rid of it the next year. Not sure the reasons it didn't work then would matter now though.

They only had 16 games then also. And I believe the bye weeks was relatively new. As going from 1 to 2 weeks was probably a bit much at the time. I would bet many would welcome it now, as for the players.
The fans are the ones that hated it, as not to see their team every week, like a ritual was interrupted.

I believe there was some scheduling quirks that year was more the main reason they had 2 bye weeks.
