At this point anyone who comes to Dallas is only coming for the money, and that is 100% because of Jerry.

I'm not wishing for his death, but I will admit I'm looking forward to the day Jerry is no longer in the picture and the coaches get to coach. It has to be pretty demeaning to be told who your OC and other staff members are going to be and not be given a choice.
If they take the job, they are selling their soul and deserve what they get.

He didn’t take the offer because he already has a deal in place to be here in 2023 :laugh:

Just like people thinking Jerry was broke after he built his stadium, I have no idea why people think the Cowboys are cheap on acquiring staff or really anything outside of VFA.

I am not any of the three you addressed but I think it is because Payton has been connected with the Cowboys as a possible HC and was a coach here at one time.

I guess that makes sense, but I'm pretty sure I had a few threads on former cowboys players like Cole Beasley moved to the NFL Zone and the reason was that "he was no longer a part of the team".

If Beasley was once again connected to the Cowboys, even through rumor, that would be different.

Jerry Jones and Sean Payton are friends. Not friendly, but friends.

Jerry Jones also thinks of himself as a tremendous asset to the Cowboys and when he finally does step down, do you think he is going to tell the kid to just hire whoever he wants? I don't.

He is going to want a guy to act as HC and part time GM. Someone he knows and trusts. Payton and Loomis worked very closely on player acquisition in NO and he is a way more qualified GM than what we have been dealing with.

It's very possible Jerry has assured him of an offer being there when we get to that point. The broadcasting thing bridges that gap, which Jerry probably had a big influence over him getting (unless Romo and Witten were coincidences lol).

His "running out of time" comment came on the way out of a one on one dinner with Payton during SB week.

It may not be next year, but I think Sean Payton ends up here eventually, and the "he won't work in this circus" thing doesn't apply.

It doesnt seem like it, but Jerry Jones eventually won't be reporting for active duty every day at some point. The kid on his own without Jerry's sunshine selling leaves the whole family open to being exposed as fraud NFL FO types.....and I'm pretty sure Jerry knows that, and will want to leave things in the hands of a guy like Payton, where the kid can still pretend to be an NFL GM as part of the deal.

I expect MM to get the next two seasons and live out his whole contract, then once Jerry has nothing left to sell to his fan base, he makes the Payton move.

The Saints won't get much if anything for compensation at that point as a perk on our end.
Jerry is never stepping down. He will die as the GM/owner of the Cowboys.

That would really turn the coaching salary structure on its head. Payton is a great coach, but what is Sean Mcvay worth if Payton is worth 25M per? McVay is a much younger and more accomplished version of Payton.

$25 million per year for Sean Payton? And since the Saints still own his rights, a ton of draft picks?

If true, the Dolphins are stupid.

I'm not certain that the Saints can retain his rights.
- They would have to re-instate him as Head Coach if he said that he wanted to return.
- At that point they would have to make him the HC or relinquish his rights.

Which would suggest to me, Sean Payton really wants that Cowboys HC job. - and he has a vibe for what salary price he can get from Jerry.
i dunno if Saints would demand a "ton" of draft picks,...or would they settle for one future first round draft pick.

I'm very decided about dishing out first round and multiple early round draft pick compensations for Payton, like he's Bill Belichek.
I'd be much more chance going with Dan Quinn as HC, let him choose his coaches and coordinators that will interact best with Dak.

Jerry has always envisioned young coaches as the next Sean Payton, ...Jason Garrett, Kellen Moore.
In trading for and buying out Payton, he would have THE actual Sean Payton for Dak Prescott for present and future years to come.

And he's not gonna be able to run this Cowboys organization the way he was allowed to run the Saints.
The Jones will only give him so much rein and rope to operate. He'll only have so much ok and say so in team operations.

I’m in the camp that believes that Sean Payton is going to like the pay and the more cushy gig that comes with doing studio work. I also think he’s a smart man who realizes that the culture here and the interference by Jerry would make it impossible to excel. And I don’t know if Jerry thinks this way but I’d certainly hate to give a draft picks for a coach.

and also just so you know if you’re right and Sean Payton winds up here, I’d be ok with that because he still would be better than any coach we’ve had since Jimmy Johnson. And I say that believing that Parcells was over the hill once he came here. As long as we don’t have to give up high draft pics to get him

and if Sean Payton does come here and wins championships, please do feel free to carpet bomb me with I told you so posts. I promise I’ll be so dang happy that nothing else would bother me

Not premium ones that's for sure. 6th 7th rounder? Sure.

It will not be happening this season I think you can count on that. Payton was experiencing burnout and needed to get away from the sidelines. I suspect a year or 2 he will be seeking a return, at that point the land scape will change around the NFL and many other teams will look to bring him in.

What if Payton does well on television. He might make more on television then he would coaching.

Payton isn't a HOF coach yet. He needs one more ring to put him in the gold jacket club. His HOF aspirations could/should be his motivation to take one more shot over the money which he probably doesn't need anyway.

Wrong. He could win a SB with Dallas. He'll get a tan with MIA.

Dallas and Miami have about the exact same playoff success over the past quarter century. I am not sure where this confidence comes from.
