IMO as an GM there is not much to like about him. He is flat out bad.

As an owner i dont think much about him also.

He is hiring the wrong people (GM for instance ;-)).

And this forbes #1 argument that some people give him credit for. IDK. When i compare Dallas to other franchises and how much % they were able to raise their value in the same timespan. Its just the same or even better than Dallas. The increase of value has nothing to do with Jones ability. It seems it is NFL system immanent.

Jerry did a great job his first 5 years, hired Jimmy , mostly stayed out of the way, signed players.
Did a great job.
Last 27 years has been in over his head with bad trades and bad drafts , hired the wrong HC's and then kept them too long (Garrett).
So looking at his whole body of work I would give him a 6 overall.
Mainly because of those 3 SB's wins.
PS: Hiring wrong front office personal like his son is also a major error.
You hire people because of their ability to get the job done, not just because they are your offspring.
This isn't the local grocery store.
Running a NFL Franchise is a complex operation.

Thoughts ?
I say 5. We're a .500 team the last 25 years so he's a .500 Owner/GM. The only reason my ranking isn't 1 or 2 is cuz of the good decisions he made his first 5 years.

Owner
10/10 owner job is marketing the team and making as much money as possible and Jerry does just that

GM
5/10
I love Jerry but keeping Garrett as long as he did i have to give him a 5 you could tell from as early as the 2008 season Garrett wasnt it and he was a OC to keep him until 2019 was inexcusable

Owner: 7
I ding his ownership rating because he won’t hire a pro GM and his meddlesome ways hold the boys down.

GM: 5
Right in the middle.

Exactly, when my friends are bragging about their team's post season success and I say, "Well the Cowboys are the most valuable franchise in sports, so yeah... take that!". I usually lose the conversation.
Yeah, laughed out of room with that comment.

Jerry did a great job his first 5 years, hired Jimmy , mostly stayed out of the way, signed players.

Jerry Jones never stayed out of the way, he was always trying to chisel his way in front of Coach Johnson.

Did a great job.

Until he gutted the entire organization after Coach Johnson left.

The scouts, everybody, wiped clean.

Then he installed stooges and yes men in charge of talent acquisition. Including his own intellectually challenged son.

Last 27 years has been in over his head with bad trades and bad drafts , hired the wrong HC's and then kept them too long (Garrett).
So looking at his whole body of work I would give him a 6 overall.

He gets a 5 from me as a pure owner. As a GM, he is a 4.

Take away the Johnson era, his rating sinks even lower.

Mainly because of those 3 SB's wins.

And how do you like them Super Bowls?

Jerry is a great owner and he great at marketing. He has made deals that were groundbreaking at the time for the team and the league as a whole. As a GM, he has hurt the team more than he has helped. Having Stephen involved has not helped the team in any way. His dumpster diving for free agents has leaves some holes on the roster every year because he can’t understand that some solid, mid-tier free agents can offer good value and upgrades some holes on the roster. Jerry is where the buck stops, so he is responsible for Stephen and the rest of the bad hires.
