Why hold on to that salary cap space?

I keep hearing fans complaining about the salary cap space and why we aren’t spending it.

Feel free to make conjectures on any scenario, including owner greed.

Personally, I’d love to think Jerry is holding that money either for the 2023 rollover to make a big move after seeing what we need to add to this season’s team, or maybe he’s hedging his bet that our wr group will be fine. Just as he brought in Cooper via trade when it was clear our WRs were subpar, if Ceedee and company aren’t getting the job done, maybe Jerry signs free agent Odell Beckham Jr around mid-October. OBJ is supposed to be ready in October sometime. His speed and ability to improvise when the play breaks down and the QB scrambles would fit our offense well, in my opinion.

What other moves could be made in-season with that money if the Cowboys struggle in a particular area?

It always amuses me that Jerry Jones, wildcatter, has pretty much become a *****cat as regards risk anymore.

Outside of questionable draft choices of course.

But he refuses to risk big money on FA's. Big change from 10-15 years ago.

They will likely add at least one veteran before camp. A late addition like Malik Hooker was in 2021 for a bargain. But their quiet FA activity up until now likely points to the future, as far as next season, for their true focal point. Right now Dallas is projected to be well over the 2023 salary cap. This is largely due to Dak's contract & but not limited to Dlaw, Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, Elliott & Gallup.

There are no top players available worth paying any money for. There are some names, but not worth it at this point. Players will be coming up for contracts the next few years, so they can roll cap space from year to year.
CeeDee and Diggs come to mind. What id Gallimore balls out this year, him too.

I am fine with what they are doing. I am not saying I agree with the FA approach when it first starts. But I am ok with where they are for now with the cap.

Tell me who are absolutely "Can't Miss" free agents. There aren't any. Now, if there were a Charles Hailey, Deion Sanders or Preston Pearson, I'r reconsider but as is .. naw.

No argument from me here. But I think they trade up next year for a QB. They probably think they have a 1-2 year window. The Cowboys are saving cap space to absorb most of Dak's cap hit next year. I firmly believe that. They may not absorb it 100%, but close to it. There are no other players to be saving cap space for. It has to be him. They don't want to push more money forward. Even if they give both Lamb and Diggs stupid big extensions, that's not a next year thing as far as big cap hits.

I guess you haven’t figured it out that they roll it over every year and that there is never a big move on the horizon

Planning ahead to the contract extensions for CeeDee, Parsons and Diggs. It’s going to break the bank to keep all three players.

Stephen Jones is not a big spender. He doesn't care about winning championships. He cares about penny pushing and getting by with cheap talent. He has always been that way. I remember he was against signing Deion Sanders for big money. Yet Deion helped us win a championship.

Stephen is going to be worst than Jerry when he leaves this world. He does this because he has no clue on talent evaluation. He is not a football guy. He is part of this team because he is Jerry's son.

You want to believe it. Nothing we've seen from the Jerry & Stephen Show over the last 20 years suggests they're going to trade up for a QB and dump Dak.

Given the projected QB class next year, that would be the time to do it if you think Dak is your Jared Goff. I just don't believe Jerry & Stephen think that way.

Unfortunately, I think you are giving the front office too much credit. They would have paid Gregory but for him turning them down. As someone else posted, it appears the front office don't really know how to work the cap or perhaps they don't want to if moving on from Prescott in a year or two

We are going to overpay for Diggs next year unfortunately

I’m ready for the homers on CZ to applaud 20+ million/y for him next off season and then when he under performs, ask: “who could have predicted that” and “what else could the FO have done?”

:facepalm::muttley:
