In the last week the NHL lost 2 of their greatest players.

Mike Bossy who was the greatest pure goal scorer in the game, he started his career with 9 straight 50 goal seasons and scored 38 in 63 games in his 10th season and retired due to a knee injury.

Guy LaFleur…he was my very 1st sports idol. I grew up a huge Montreal Canadien fan and Guy was the best player in the world at the time. All Guy did in his career was win 5 championships, 2 MVPs, 3 scoring titles, played on the greatest dynasty ever.

Both died to young and both died of lung cancer.

guy Lafleur use to smoke between periods…

This is probably the greatest goal LaFleur ever scored. Game 7 of the 79 semi final down by 1, LaFleur ties it and Montreal wins in OT and then went on to win the cup…

Sunday night in Montreal. A 10 minute standing O for the flower.

Mike Bossy Tribute

RIP to a couple of the greatest.

As a Bruins fan growing up in the 70's I hated Lafleur. Decades later he was at a local bar signing autographs and my Hab's fan buddy got one for me. (I wouldn't walk across the bar to get one myself, lol) It was given an honorable display spot in my man cave where it still hangs today.

I feel fortunate to have been around to watch both of these men do their thing.

i think Montreal v Boston is the greatest rivalry in hockey. It’s like Guy timed his death knowing Boston was Montreal’s next home game…

I think as we get older we appreciate greatness even if they played for our rivals…I could not stand Cherry as your coach, but really enjoyed his tv work and as I’ve learned more about Cherry I appreciate that he was a really good coach…

Can the lightning 3 peat?
They will go as far as Vasi will take them.

Still a great team, even after losing some depth. Still - there are some really great teams left in the running. Gonna be a great Cup series regardless.

Been watching hockey since the mid 70s and I’ve never seen a Stanley Cup Final game where one team dominated the other so lopsidedly…this game was not even close in way. Colorado was like Indy cars vs Tampa in Pinto’s…

Yea game two was an AHL team vs a NHL team. Just completely outmatched in all phases.

Lightning played well last night. You have to wonder if the air in Denver has something to do with the play of other teams up there. The Avs are as fast as any team I have seen and it looked like the Lightning could not catch their breath. Game 4 should be great.

Nice comeback by Lightning. Just what they needed. If I’m a Lightning fan I am hoping that Colorado doesn’t pull the trigger on bringing in that back up goalie. He has some great numbers in relief.

On Thursday Toronto legend Borje Salming passed away from ALS. He was 71. He is a Swedish born player that was the main catalyst and lead the way for Europeans to play in NHL.

This was Salming being honoured by the leafs a few weeks before his death…

He was a class act to the end … RIP a true legend.
