I'm talking about opposing coaches studying his film! Lol!!!! Have you ever broken down game film?
Opposing coaches will definitely be trying to find a way to stop him. The problem for them is, I’m not sure what they can do. They need to up the speed and athleticism of the guys who are trying to stop Micah, but obviously they can’t do that. He just moves in ways that they can’t.

They’ll have to scheme to stop him, which will involve more than one player at a time. When teams do that, it is going to free up others to make plays… the age old problem for coaches.

Kind of like why Aaron Donald hasn’t been stopped despite every coach trying to figure out how, for years now. Speed and explosion can’t really be schemed against without bringing in others to help.

My point is, I think all the studying on him that they can do is only going to yield spotty results. He just moves too fast and his instincts, while still developing, are just too good. As long as Parsons keeps up the work and studying, I don’t expect very much of a sophomore slump. He’s very competitive, and that is a great combination with his elite physical skills.

Like you, I kind of would rather him just not say anything… but he gets asked these questions and he is brimming with confidence. It isn’t really unexpected.

Donald plays in the middle..man on man....that's hard to game plan. Parsons plays on a side or off of the line....a check with me call can take him out of the play.

I understand. I just don’t expect them to be very successful stopping him. Not to mention that I expect Quinn to have some counters to that.

You’re right though… we won’t know until the pads come on and teams are game planning.

I can’t wait!

It's cool now. After week 1 it'll either be cool still or a large percent of the fanbase will tell him to shut up.

Won't take too long. Fans already tell Tank to shut up or laugh at him when he sets lofty goals.

This is one thing I do not . . . repeat, do not, want Parsons even remotely concerned with records, especially All-Time.

The only record I want him concerned about, and I do realize he gives a rat's about my thoughts here, but, for me, the worst times as a Cowboys' fan ever was during the years we held on to Emmitt for so long that his skillset had declined so much that he became a detriment to the team. He was single-handedly tanking our seasons, especially those last two.

And, man, as a fan, you just couldn't say it (lest other fans lash out at you): that Emmitt Smiff's time and come and gone.... And then it left again the following year, and yet there he was still carrying the ball for the Dallas Cowboys. I say carrying, because he surely wasn't running it. The writing should have been on the wall for Emmitt when Darren Hambrick, our LBs brother, was actually better than him about two years before the time Emmitt finally decided to hang them up.

If Emmitt is proud of getting that record today with the benefit of hindsight, I'd have to wonder where how his priorities were ever good enough to be a key player on a championship team, because that was some selfish nonsense. Jerry was selling tickets that year, to the record. My roommates were there, holding the stupid sign you see after he broke the record.

The last thing I want is for Parsons to get hung up on records so much that he can't admit to himself when that old cliche' comes along and it's time to hang them up.

That's embarrassing, number one.

Number two, being a me player has little to do with the objective of being a player in the first place. Some will take this out of context. But you do not want to concern yourself with playing to break records.

You want to make sure everything you do helps you help your team win each game in the present or future.

Anything aside from that is just some dudes ego talking.

Emmitt can have the record all he wants. Anyone who had an inkling of a clue and watched both backs knew that Walter Payton was by far the better back. Emmitt played on great teams, with great WRs, great OL, great QB, and a great, great defense. Like 2022, the 90s Cowboys were also a young team, so he timed the prime of his career to coincide with the prime of Larry Allen, etc.

Contrastingly, one of my favorite moments as a Cowboy fan., and this is how much the whole "record" thing irritated me with Emmitt, just as it would with Parsons (I actually loved ES as much as everyone else. I could just admit he was done) or any player with enough talent to even have this conversation.

I say go for the record on a year-to-year basis, sure. Have a beer-bet amongst the rest of your teammates to keep each other and yourself accountable, sure. If you're Micah Parsons, maybe you talk some obligatory trash about breaking the sack record, because you know you're a beast and it's fun getting in people's heads with the mental game. But the last I checked, Pasrons is a linebacker, so chances are he most likely won't get enough opportunities at DE to realistically obtain the sack record, which most people would not know is held by Bruce Smith.

Speaking of Bruce Smith, he's my Sam Williams "potential" comparison in the draft zone NFL comparison thread.

Speaking of the Bills, we drafted another player who also shares similarities (physical similarities, at least), to another HOF Bills player Andre Reed, and that is Jalen Tolbert.

When the Bills coaches call 4 screen passes, so Reed could surpass Art Monk and solidify the #2 spot at the time (behind Jerry Rice), he was furious. As in, Reed got a standing ovation, but it set his temper off and was kind of the last straw for him on his way out from Buffalo.

At the end of the day, the only stat that matters is winning.

Here's a recap. Much respect for Andre Reed.

Who cares? He can cover TE’s just as well as rush the passer. He can do it all
Well, if you prefer sacks and getting pressure on the QB over covering a TE 15 yards downfield that may or may not be anywhere near the play then you should care.

I would rather have him help this D shut down the run. I think he should recall he had himself matched up with the playmakers from the other teams and he failed to contain Samuel in the playoff game. He should have remembered Belichick's advice "just do your job".

I am already getting tired of his talking. He should let others sing his praises and he should know that if he doesn't have help on that D, every OC can negate a one player D.

He had a great year but when the chips were down in the only playoff game, he wasn't even the best LB on the field.

" We" failed to contain Deebo Samuels, .. same as i said about Ridgeway, ..this is a team sport, it's not one man gang like boxing...
it takes the help and strength of 11 men on defense, not just one man ...

Cox being healthy this season and assuming some of those coverage responsibilities will be huge for Parsons and the defense as a whole.

Well, all records will be easier to break with an extra game

i think maybe it has gone to his head, and while it is good to have a high goal, it will be harder to even match what he did last season.

I doubt he is thinking that last year he was a surprise to many teams, and this season they know about him so will defend him differently.
In the SF WC game they made a point to focus on extra blocking on him and it worked. So it wont be as easy as last season.

At least the guy has supreme confidence and competitiveness to think there's no reason why he cannot have a shot at repeating what he
did as a rookie ?

And frankly i think it's gonna key on 3 things
1) staying healthy
2) Quinn continuing to be even more creative, flexible in his scheme
3) Having a very strong support cast around him (ala DL and LB)

same. guys have wanted an alpha male on the D for how long now? this is what comes with it lol
Exactly. The guy is who he is, take him or leave him. He's great as a total package. If people start picking apart the parts of that package they don't like, what's left will cease to be a total package.
I'm all in for the guy just as he is. Let him go and let him grow. GO FOR IT MICAH!!

Ok.......here are his quotes again. I just don't see the problem....
“Yeah, 15’s like the minimum. Fifteen is what I want to hit,” Parsons told Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports. “But definitely 23 is that goal, to break the record.”
“I just take the blessings that God gave me,” he said. “I don’t feel like I need to reach anyone’s expectations but my own. If I can live with it, I can deal with it. I’m going to just go out there and play my game. I don’t want to go out there and chase no one’s story. I’ve just got to do my thing, and that’s what got me here, and that’s what I’m going to keep doing.”
I agree, I don't see the problem either. Zip, zero, nada.

Is he capable? 100%.
He was beating probowl OGs in one on one situations…
No doubt it’s possible. However, many other things must also work in his favor…
1) Quinn has to rush him and give him enough opportunities
2) he has to stay healthy
3) the offense has to score early and often to force opposing teams to pass, a LOT.
4) scores have to stay close enough to not pull him also.

The best defense we had in the past 30 years was the 92 defense and Charles Haley led the team with 11 sacks. We had a number of players who got sacks that season which led to relentless pressure. Everyone contributed.
